  • Nice place, functional, affordable, and in the mountains

"We enjoyed our week stay at the Pine Cone Cabin. We had 3 generations staying together, accommodating 80 year old grandparents, and 8 year old twins. We have relatives in the Sturgis area so it was easy to visit them and also do the tourist stuff near Custer State Park. The week we visited was very hot, Rapid City was 95 degrees, but we stayed cool in the 6500 ft. elevation. My only complaints are running out of toilet paper on the last day (uncool), a very slow coffee pot, and some traffic noise from the road in front of the cabin. It's private enough, but it is not secluded, its in a resort neighborhood. It was not excessive or annoying but just know that cars and ATV do travel on the road. Overall it is a very nice place, functional and affordable, and located high in the mountains. We enjoyed our time."

  • What a wonderful place and location, location, location says it all.

"If I could post a picture of the first day here it sums it all up. It had just rained and there was a rainbow behind the house from the rear deck. Beautiful picture. We had 11 adults, 10 children and they had a blast. There was plenty of room for everyone, to the effect when the kids were downstairs you could not hear them playing. It is the most comfortable place I have stayed in using VRBO. We were there for a family reunion and had the event at this residence. There was 75 people who came over and not one of them complained about not having enough room or it was too loud. The deck is spacious and expansive. The outdoor grounds are well manicured and the kids had a blast playing the large grass lot. The walks at night with the 30 or something deer out and about was very relaxing, its about a 1.5 mile walk we took every night around the neighborhood. No road noise, no noise at all. Windows were open at night and the cool air filled the house. The never ending tank less water heater insured everyone had a hot shower, no matter what time of day or how many had just taken a shower. 4 miles to Sturgis, 4 miles to Deadwood, 1 hour drive to Mt. Rushmore and 1.5 hours to Custer state park and surrounding adventures the Black Hills has to offer. I would definitely stay here again and so would the family. I'd give it 6 stars if I could."

  • A great retreat!

"My friends and I enjoyed a week at this beautifully-situated Spearfish Canyon home and can't say enough about the property, the condition of the house and the kindness of the owner. We arrived in time to catch the final days of the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally, which is a must for all motorcycle enthusiasts, and spent each day riding the incomparable roads that make up the greater Black Hills region. We put more than 1,000 miles on our scooters throughout the week and enjoyed returning to our mountain lodge and listening to the Spearfish Creek, steps away from the house. The outside deck was wonderful and provided us with a great gathering place to discuss the day's adventure while enjoying the hot tub and gazing up at the canyon walls. The large living room provided enough comfortable seating for us all and the 70-inch plasma TV and video collection were great. Dave was a wonderful host and was careful to check in on the condition of the house without being intrusive and his recommendations for sites to visit during our stay were much appreciated. This is a wonderful house in a stunning location in the Black Hills. Spearfish Canyon Road is an unforgettable motorcycle ride in itself and to be able to stay in such a magnificent location was truly special. I highly recommend this property for your next vacation whether you're on your motorcycle or getting away with the kids. The Black Hills and this beautiful property will bring you years of great memories and we are most grateful to Dave and the wonderful people of South Dakota for welcoming us so warmly and leaving us with such previous memories."

  • Perfect South Dakota Location

"We spent a week at this home with our kids and grand kids. It was the perfect location. We brought out some riding horses to help explore the Black Hills National Forest right in the backyard as well as took the suggestions for the different sightseeing places. Price for this location was way reasonable and we plan to return again. Absolutely wonderful experience."
