  • Fantastic Experience

"We could not agree more with the previous reviews for this lovely home. The views are exceptional and the house was built to take advantage of the beauty of Blacktail Ridge. The house is spacious, quiet, kitchen well equipped, plenty of space for relaxing and taking in the beauty of Orcas Island. The owner was responsive, helpful and provided great information to help us plan our visit. We would love to return. Wonderful property."

  • Beautiful views / Wonderful family memories

"This was our first experience renting a house on Orcas Island and we weren't sure what to expect. When we arrived on April 5, 2016 we were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful water views from this house. The pictures from the Home Away website don't even do it justice! The house and property were cozy and inviting and we were in awe of the large windows looking out to the picturesque views from the living room, dining room and kitchen. Our kids (10, 6 & 4) really enjoyed playing in the yard while my wife and I relaxed. The room layout was perfect for our family of five. Our two sons really enjoyed staying in the 2nd bedroom (two beds) and our 4 year old daughter loved staying in the master bedroom with my wife and I (two beds in the master). The house was clean and had all the necessary bathroom towels/floormats and the kitchen had plenty of pots/pans/utensils etc... The living room, dining room and kitchen all felt very open (partly due to the layout and partly due to the large windows in each of these areas). With children, I will say that you do have to be cautious when walking down to the water from the stairs off the yard. Not an issue if you are being a watchful parent. The property was about 25 + minutes from the main town (Eastsound, WA) on the island, which made the house feel quiet and secluded. Our family would enjoy the waterfront in the late morning, explore the island during the day, then relax together at the house for a quiet evening. We spent three wonderful nights at this house and we were all sad to have to leave and come back to our regular lives. Our kids immediately asked when we would be able to return for another stay! The owner (Melinda) was helpful with information and quick to answer questions we had before our arrival, which made the experience much easier for us. We were very happy that Melinda allowed us to create spectacular memories at her house for our children!"

  • Relaxing weekend away with friends

"I decided to gather 9 of my closest friends for a weekend getaway just outside the city. Heading up to Guemes island was a mixture of fun adventure and relaxing getaway. We were able to enjoy our time and below I'll provide the pros/cons and my tips for future vacationers. Pros: The ferry was short, cheap, and travels across often. There was practically no noise, traffic, or other people around at all during our stay, the house is completely surrounded and feels very private. The house was very spacious and provided exactly what we needed for a short weekend away, including some board games and the garage entertainment (pool/ping pong) was greatly appreciated. The back deck is very spacious and it was very easy to accommodate everyone for relaxing and chatting in a large circle. The yard is also very spacious and can easily have multiple people running around at once. Cons: (Most of these cons were a result of me and not the house) There are only a few outdoor chairs, so bring some if you like to lounge. The ferry can only hold 20-22 cars at a time so get there a little early otherwise you may have to wait. There was no outdoor fire pit, which would have been really fun but again there was never one promised so I can't be upset about not having one. The propane tank was empty but we filled it at the local store and the home-owner reimbursed us, yay! Pro-tips: Do your research on the ferry schedule and get there 20-25 minutes early. Pack plenty of chairs and everything you'll need to enjoy they weekend (outdoor games, drinks, water, etc...). If you can't find the ping pong paddles look in the drawers by the garage sink... trust me... they are there! I recommend bringing flip flops or slippers since there is a lot of in and out of the back patio (lazy pro-tip). Bring fancy cooking utensils, the basics are there. The house was amazing and we had a great time, enjoy yourself and do the 1.1 mile Guemes Mountain hike, it was beautiful."

  • Perfect family adventure!

"This cabin was great for our clan! With 4 kids/young adults (aged 11-20) and a dog in tow, we headed up in our boat to explore the San Juans for the week. With the mooring buoy, hot tub, beautiful bathroom, bunkhouse and well-equipped kitchen we had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy. It was a perfect launching point to enjoy many islands by boat. The weather was beautiful so the shuffle from the buoy to the rocky shore and up the steep steps was a great adventure! Our only struggle was that we couldn't moor our inflatable dinghy on shore so we ended up having one person paddle board in and out to fetch the dinghy. We would definitely do it again by boat in the summer-if weather is inclement, it would be cozy and charming coming by car!"
