Why the Owner Chose Private Homes

We love the laid back vibe of Folly and the fact that it's close to town.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Typical day: We usually start the day by walking to Bert's to pick up the paper. This is the highlight of his day because at Bert's they keep a box of dog treats behind the counter to encourage furry customers. Don't even think of tying your dog up outside, bring him in to get spoiled. Then we enjoy a stiff cup of coffee on the screen porch off of the kitchen. Eventually we'll go for a bike ride or load up the wagon and head for the beach. Hopefully at some point I'll wind up in the hammock with a book and then a little nap. For dinner, I might take a drive over to Crosby's to pick up some fish to cook on the grill or if feeling lazy, we'll wander over to Center St. to one of the many restaurants.
Summertime and the livin's easy...

Owner's Map of Private Homes

My husband David and I built the house in 2007 as a retreat. We've been renting it for awhile now and have had really great luck with people treating the house as though it were their own. We live nearby in downtown Charleston with our two children, one dog, one cat and 4 chickens. (Only the dog comes with us to the house.)

Lovely Home and Great Location

Guest: Lynne (Ten Mile, TN USA)
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 12/27/11

This is a great adult home that is both tidy and dog friendly. It is so nice to experience clean, contemporary design in a vacation rental. The description on VRBO is very fair and the home was well equipped and ready for us to relax. The layout works well for two couples, as the common area floor provides a buffer of privacy between the upstairs master and the downstairs bedrooms. It would probably also be good for a couple with older children (who would enjoy the downstairs den). The outdoor shower off the master is pleasant, but a bit brisk in winter--be warned! The location was perfect for easy beach access and strolling to breakfast or dinner. We also loved the quick access to Charleston. Thank you for offering your lovely home on VRBO!

Extremely clean home!

We rented this house for a wedding that we went too ever Easter weekend. We could not be any happier with this house. The house was very big, extremely clean, and very organized. You can definelty tell that the owner takes care of the house. We brought our 3 children, and our lab with us. Our children are 5, 4, and 1. I brought bath towels and beach towels with us because I am very grossed out by using other peoples towels. Next time we stay, I will not be bringing them with us because that is how clean everything is. The Lost Dog is my favorite breakfast place. Dont' forget the dogs, because they are welcome there too. Also another great restaurant is Ritas. Everybody that lives at Folly Beach is very pleasant. We are already planning on when we are coming down next year and staying at this house. I have been talking to everyone since we got back about our trip and the house. Thank you Molly for letting us stay at your home and answering all of our questions!

Eclectic house with pizzazz!

Guest: NC (MA)
Date of Stay: 03/17/11 Review Submitted: 04/01/11

We loved staying here (Mar 17-25, 2011)! A few short blocks from the beach and Folly Beach restaurants. The laid-back tone of FB was infectuous! And elegant downtown Charleston a 15-20 minute drive away. We opted to use the first floor as our suite, yielding the dramatic third floor master aerie to house guests. Grand kitchen-dining-great room with 20 foot cieling wowed our house- and dinner- guests and could have accommodated many times the six we entertained. Two screened porches and fabulous third floor deck meant getaway space for everyone. And don't forget free coffee at Berts around the corner, where you could find just about everything, including free treats for the dogs. Owner Molly was very accommodating.

Return visit ~ just keeps getting better and better

Guest: Atlanta girl (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 02/17/11 Review Submitted: 03/25/11

This is a lovely, well maintained home in a great location. The owners could not be nicer or more helpful. We first rented the home in November 2008 and returned again February 2011. The house is pristine and well designed for large groups. Very close to the beach and a short drive to downtown Charleston. Highly recommend!

Beautiful home with everything

Guest: DStrength (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/28/10 Review Submitted: 01/14/11

My now husband and I stayed at this home along with my parents and sister's family in the week leading up to our wedding. The home is beautifully decorated and designed. It was the perfect set up for 3 different families. Everything we could have needed was provided from kitchen appliances to beach boogie boards and chairs. We were able to relax with coffee and tea on the back porch each morning. Te hammocks were wonderful! My sister's daughter who was 7 months old loved the open living space upstairs. We could all make dinner while watching her play. It was also nice to be only a short walk to Folly Beach Road and great restaurants like The Lost Dog and Ritas. The owner made the rental process so easy and provided us with all the information we needed to make a more than amazing week-before-wedding! We cannot wait to have family vacations there in the future!

Modern Twist on Beautiful Beach House

Guest: manandwoman (California)
Date of Stay: 11/04/10 Review Submitted: 11/09/10

My girlfriends and I had a long weekend stay at this spectacular beach house. The layout is perfect for groups as there is adequate privacy. The house is tastefully decorated and perfect - extremely well taken care of. The location was ideal for our needs as we simply wanted to stay put and enjoy each others company. I would suggest a car for exploring the area. HIGHLY recommend this as the perfect beach house!

Wonderful relaxing time!

Guest: Gerry (Knoxville, TN)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 11/09/10

We had a wonderfully relaxing time here! The teenagers hung out in the foosball room (and whipped their seniors soundly in the family tournament). The dining room became our gathering space for conversation, jigsaw working, and card games; the thoroughly stocked kitchen provided everything we needed to take turns cooking. Everyone loved the plein air shower- so simple, so right for this home. We all loved the bottle cap mosaic and the reading nooks. Thanks for your vision of a retreat sans psychic clutter- we all benefitted. Ofarrells, Allens, Pouleses

Could be an A+

Guest: Cindy (Rosamond, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/26/10 Review Submitted: 11/07/10

This is a newer, nice beach house. Having grown up in Charleston, I would say it is not your common Folly Beach house, but that's a good thing in this case. The only real complaint is that whoever stays in the master bedroom which is on the 3rd floor must go to the 1st floor to shower or shower outside on the balcony. There is a toilet and sink in the master bedroom, but the shower is outside. The only indoor shower/tub is on the first floor with the rest of the bedrooms. There are some small complaints which are very fixable. There is only one TV in the house! The main floor and the master do not have a TV. There is not a microwave. The dining chairs are very worn out and need to be replaced. The furniture is a bit worn. The art is a bit odd. Good stuff - the house is open and airy. Very nice and clean! The bottle cap picture is awesome! I loved being able to bring my dogs who loved the beach! The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful. I would consider staying here again.

Owner response:The VRBO listing shows that the shower for the 3rd floor master bath is outdoors on the porch. Most people love it, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea, especially on cold winter mornings. It is intentional that there is only one TV, located in the downstairs den. I've had a number of people tell me that they appreciate that their families spend more time conversing, because of this arrangement. We choose not to have a microwave for nutritional/health reasons. The stove/oven works great! The chairs at the dining table are mid-century modern and a couple of them could admittedly be refurbished. We will take care of that. Some of the art is unconventional or thought provoking, but this is not by accident; You may not love every piece. All in all, our house is different than anything else you're going to find on the rental market and we hope it provides an interesting backdrop to your vacation.
