3000 square ft. home, built in 2007, By a designer/artist couple as a retreat. Modern furniture, Hammocks on the porches (2 screened porches and 1 sun deck) original art and photographs. On the first floor of the house there are two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with a queen and a double. Further down the hall is the den, with a TV and foosball table, plus a large screened porch with a hammock.
The second floor is an open two story space that has a kitchen with large double doors opening onto a screened porch perfect for dining or relaxing in the hammock. There's also a loft /office above connected by a catwalk to the master bedroom on the third floor. Please be aware that the master bedroom's shower is outside on the deck. Well behaved house-broken, flea treated dogs are welcomed, but there is no fenced yard, so they would need to be walked on a leash. Keep in mind that dogs are not allowed on the beach between the hours of 10:00am-6:00pm from May 1st to September 30th.
This house is not available for parties unless specifically approved by the owner. It is not suitable for people under 25 without parental supervision such as college groups on spring break or prom gatherings.

We had a great vacation! Molly has a lovely home- very modern, light and airy with great art. The kitchen was had everything we needed, although we didn't cook much and took advantage of the great restaurants in Folly Beach and Charleston. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, there were plenty of towels and soaps, accessing the home was easy, and the hammocks were relaxing! Delightful week with perfect weather! Thanks for the quick correspondence and the beautiful home!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

My family dragged me to SC for a holiday. I didn't want to leave home, but they made me go. When I got to the house they rented on Folly Beach, I changed my mind. There were delicious smells around the neighborhood and lots of other friendly dogs. The house where we stayed was big and roomy and nice. My owners liked it too. They said it was neat and tidy and the kitchen was well equipped...as if I cared whether my dinner was served on china or tin. I liked the porch off the kitchen where I could lay under the hammock while my owner and I took naps with a gentle breeze blowing. The roof top deck was nice as well, although I prefer the shade to the sun like you humans. My master was crazy about the outdoor shower and used it often. Personally, I prefer bathing once a month. Would I go back. You betcha. Would I tell my pals. Ditto!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this home. It was very clean and well appointed. You couldn't ask for a better equipped kitchen. Also, there were books, games and puzzles to occupy our children on the day that it rained. We also appreciated the fact that there were two hammocks, one on each porch, so there was no squabbling over whose turn it was! The home is an easy walk to both the beach and to Center street, where the restaurants are located, so there's no need to drive. Thank you for providing such a beautiful environment in which to relax and restore!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

Great House and Great Anniversary Weekend

My wife and I rented this house for our anniversary weekend and had a great time! The house is fantastic and is perfectly located on Folly Beach. We could easily walk to the main street to eat at some yummy restaurants or down to the beach and take a stroll. I wish we spent more time at the house but we were out and about in Charleston so much (which is only like a 15 minute drive). The house itself is huge and we loved the modern design. The outside shower did take a bit of getting used to (we had a lot of laughs using it in the cold mornings) but if you're not up for it, there's always a regular shower on the bottom floor. The kitchen is well stocked with every appliance or dishware you need (not that we used it since we ate out at every meal). There are a lot of stairs in the house, so just keep that in mind if you have really little ones (or really old ones), but they're definitely worth climbing especially to the top deck to enjoy the views. The next time we come back, we'll definitely rent this place again -- and will bring the rest of our family (our son and dog), who I'm sure will love it too.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a plan at one time to rent every appealing house on Folly....we worked through 4 houses....and then we found this one! It is perfect and we are totally in love! It is on the Folly River side...not the beach side...which we see as a real plus. It is very quiet and peaceful over here. This house is amazing... and once you learn a little about the talent of the owners, who are amazing artists, you realize what a privilege it is to stay here! It is like being given the opportunity of spending a week alone in an art gallery...a rare and wonderful opportunity!!! It is very near Center Street, as close as we have ever been...and we like that a lot! The outdoor shower on the roof is a TOTAL luxury and now we must find how to rig that up at our own home. The owners are not only very talented, but super nice!!! It has been a pleasure working with them. We have decided to give up our dream of renting every appealing house on Folly....this is now truly our home away from home. It just doesn't get better than this...we are still in shock at how perfect it is...and we still have 2 days stay left!!!!! Heaven!!!!!!! This place is heaven! When we come to Folly from now on...this is where we will stay! Our search for heaven is over!!! We can't wait to plan our next visit! Thank you so much Molly and David, for sharing this home!!! It is the most relaxed and invigorating vacation we have had, EVER. I am going to bring my art supplies next time...this house inspires me. Perhaps you could come over and give some art lessons!!!!???? I did find a box of crayons here...perhaps I will create a masterpiece before we leave!!!!! Gotta go now...gotta go take a nap on that wonderful hammock upstairs!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

Really enjoyed the home at 216 Hudson. It's priced right for the location and has plenty of space for the family. There were six of us staying here but it felt more like two. The giant table in the great room was amazing. The kitchen was better equipped than any vacation rental I've rented previously. The location was very convenient, not right at the beach or at center street but close enough to walk. It's very quiet in the morning which was perfect for sleeping late. I will recommend this home for families or a group of couples. On a side note, the decor is quirky, contemporary and interesting. Makes for great talk pieces.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is a great adult home that is both tidy and dog friendly. It is so nice to experience clean, contemporary design in a vacation rental. The description on VRBO is very fair and the home was well equipped and ready for us to relax. The layout works well for two couples, as the common area floor provides a buffer of privacy between the upstairs master and the downstairs bedrooms. It would probably also be good for a couple with older children (who would enjoy the downstairs den). The outdoor shower off the master is pleasant, but a bit brisk in winter--be warned! The location was perfect for easy beach access and strolling to breakfast or dinner. We also loved the quick access to Charleston. Thank you for offering your lovely home on VRBO!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We rented this house for a wedding that we went too ever Easter weekend. We could not be any happier with this house. The house was very big, extremely clean, and very organized. You can definelty tell that the owner takes care of the house. We brought our 3 children, and our lab with us. Our children are 5, 4, and 1. I brought bath towels and beach towels with us because I am very grossed out by using other peoples towels. Next time we stay, I will not be bringing them with us because that is how clean everything is. The Lost Dog is my favorite breakfast place. Dont' forget the dogs, because they are welcome there too. Also another great restaurant is Ritas. Everybody that lives at Folly Beach is very pleasant. We are already planning on when we are coming down next year and staying at this house. I have been talking to everyone since we got back about our trip and the house. Thank you Molly for letting us stay at your home and answering all of our questions!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

We loved staying here (Mar 17-25, 2011)! A few short blocks from the beach and Folly Beach restaurants. The laid-back tone of FB was infectuous! And elegant downtown Charleston a 15-20 minute drive away. We opted to use the first floor as our suite, yielding the dramatic third floor master aerie to house guests. Grand kitchen-dining-great room with 20 foot cieling wowed our house- and dinner- guests and could have accommodated many times the six we entertained. Two screened porches and fabulous third floor deck meant getaway space for everyone. And don't forget free coffee at Berts around the corner, where you could find just about everything, including free treats for the dogs. Owner Molly was very accommodating.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: My husband David and I built the house in 2007 as a retreat. We've been renting it for awhile now and have had really great luck with people treating the house as though it were their own. We live nearby in downtown Charleston with our two children, one dog, one cat and 4 chickens. (Only the dog comes with us to the house.)
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We love the laid back vibe of Folly and the fact that it's close to town.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Typical day: We usually start the day by walking to Bert's to pick up the paper. This is the highlight of his day because at Bert's they keep a box of dog treats behind the counter to encourage furry customers. Don't even think of tying your dog up outside, bring him in to get spoiled. Then we enjoy a stiff cup of coffee on the screen porch off of the kitchen. Eventually we'll go for a bike ride or load up the wagon and head for the beach. Hopefully at some point I'll wind up in the hammock with a book and then a little nap. For dinner, I might take a drive over to Crosby's to pick up some fish to cook on the grill or if feeling lazy, we'll wander over to Center St. to one of the many restaurants.
Summertime and the livin's easy...
