We are at the shoreline of Lake Superior, ½ acre of land with 200 ft of shoreline. There are steps to the ledge rock below where you can listen and watch the waves and catch the lake breezes. The changing nature of the lake will grab your attention and sometimes create a sense of awe. Since the property is on the shipping lanes leading to Duluth, you will see the huge boats of the lake, and also the fishing boats of the local restaurants.
The home has beautiful views of Lake Superior, the family room revealing a sun drenched panoramic view. Nature is on display through the various views of other rooms. A screened-in-porch, lakeside deck, outdoor seating, and patio dining enhance the outdoor experience. A screened in gazebo also offers solitude and refuge from everyday stress.
There are two large bedrooms with new comfortable mattresses, a sofa sleeper (with view of fireplace and lake) and additional mattress padding. The family room is adjacent to the kitchen and porch. There is also a dining room, piano, living room with original stone fireplace, and a TV room with leather couch, chair and ottoman, and views of the lake. For those who want to cook, the kitchen is fully furnished with cooking utensils and a new electric stove. For those who want to dine out, there are 4 star restaurants in the immediate area, and other dining choices from the familiar to the unique.
The two cities of Duluth and Two Harbors are within a 15 minute ride. Both cities offer festivals, shopping, and yearly events. Knife River is only 2 miles away and is the site of a large sandy beach, a marina, the Knife River, and the Superior hiking trail. Local smoked lake trout is available for you to buy, and fishing/boating excursions are for hire at the Knife River marina.
Once you are here, you will wish you never had to leave. The charms of the North Shore are various and within a day’s drive from The Bon Aire at Greenwood Cliffs. As often as you visit, there is always more to explore. The natural beauty and rugged history are part of the experience.

Why the Owner Chose Duluth
I wasn't looking for a vacation home, but I ran across it online and fell in love with it. Some day we will retire to the Bon Aire. There is nothing else like the North Shore and Lake Superior.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The home is larger than most would predict with almost 1500 sq ft. This allows for privacy and room to spread out.
Owner's Map of Duluth
My husband and I live in a condo in the heart of the Twin Cities. The Bon Aire is our spiritual refuge away from the noise and crowding of city life.

New Years 2011-2012

We stayed at the home over New Years Eve with another couple. All of us were very surprised by the excellent condition of the home and the great views of the lake. The house sits right atop the rocks of superior and though it was winter we stepped onto the deck and could hear the sound of the water crash against the landscape. The home and grounds left us wanting nothing. The kitchen truly is fully stocked! And there are extra blankets and pillows for snuggling by the fire, watching the lake, or relaxing with a book (which are available on the shelves!) The house seemed much larger than any of us pictured it to be. Also, we were very happy to have the privacy and the yard of a house unlike the rental cabins down the road that all had common ground space. This house has great view/ sitting spots of the lake. All and all WE WILL BE STAYING HERE AGAIN!

The Bon Aire was such a perfect destination for a fall getaway--only three hours from the Twin Cities, lots of great color on the drive up and then of course beautiful Lake Superior right in the backyard once we arrived! The house is spacious and quiet and full of light and lake views. Loved having morning coffee in the cozy kitchen sitting area while watching the sun come up. Highly recommend the New Scenic Cafe, right down the road.

We spent a wonderful weekend at The Bon Aire. We range in age from mid 20's to mid 80's and we all agreed the the house was a great place to stay. We cooked all of our meals in and found the kitchen had everything we needed and more! The screened porch was our favorite place to gather when we weren't outside. We also enjoyed a Vista Cruise one afternoon. The Bon Aire was perfect for us and we would stay there again on any future visits to Duluth. Chris, thank you so much for sharing your wondeful home with us!

We took my sister and my nephew from Austria to the Bon Aire in the middle of August. The house was great and had all the amenities we needed (plus beautiful lake views from the living room, kitchen and seating area next to the kitchen and the deck). The gardens are gorgeous and offer several seating areas, all of which are overlooking the lake (you can also take the steps and walk down to the rock beach, which has a beauty of its own), And the front yard has enough space to play catch. Combined with the most beautiful summer weather we could ask for (warm but not humid, rain one night, but during the days not a cloud in the sky), we had a marvellous time at the house, and our visitors from Austria still are enthusiastic about the North Shore! We are definitely recommending the Bon Aire to our friends.
Owner response:Thanks Barbara, Your remarks were much appreciated.

Everything You Expect From A Great Up North Experience

February 2011 will mark our 7th trip to Bon Aire. Over the years we’ve stayed at several places along the North Shore, Bon Aire is definitely among our favorites. Whether this is your first trip to the North Shore, or you’re a seasoned veteran of the area, Bon Aire offers everything you’re expecting of a North Shore experience. From the well-stocked, neat-as-a-pin modern kitchen for preparing those simple-to-gourmet meals to the comfy furniture around the wood-burning stone fireplace, you’d never have to leave the house to enjoy your North Shore experience. Even the cozy sunporch sitting area gets you close to the outdoors with a view of Lake Superior on those rainy days you just want to read, relax or nap. But, outdoors at Bon Aire is just as special with the campfire ring on a grassy area next to the house featuring a spectacular view of the Lake and the numerous passing ore boats. There’s also a stone patio area with grill, chairs and tables for enjoying some outdoor dining as well as another view of the Lake. If you want to get up close and personal with Lake Superior you can venture down on the rocky shoreline. A retired schoolteacher rents the upstairs of Bon Aire, but don’t let that stop you from giving this Up North home a try. We’ve only met her once in all our stays, she’s a delightful lady, but quiet as a church mouse. You won’t even know she’s there. If you need anything you can call Mick the resident handyman. Great guy with a wealth of knowledge about the area. Be sure to ask him about his moose encounter, it’s an amazing story. Also, be sure to check out the small community of Knife River and Russ Kendall's Smoked Fish Shop. It's only about a mile or so down the road. This is definitely a five-star Up North experience. Enjoy!

We loved the house, it was exactly as shown in the photos. The house was clean and well maintained, very warm and inviting. The information and notes from the owner were very detailed. We wanted to be right on the lake and be able to watch the ships and the view from the sitting room and living room were perfect. We hope to stay again in warmer weather to take advantage of sitting outside and having a fire or sitting on the rocks listening to the waves. We mainly stayed at the house but did travel to Two Harbors to walk the breakwater and we also visited Split Rock and stopped at Kendall Fish in Knife River to get some excellent smoked fish and cheese spread. We have been telling family and friends about this wonderful getaway. Thank you
Owner response:Hi Lynn, I was so glad to receive your remarks. I hope you return again. Warm regards, Chris

Chris, Thank you so much! The first two nights we stayed with two friends. The third night my sister & her boyfriend came up for her 30th birthday. We all LOVED the view. Enjoyed making our meals & sitting down together. We had a fire each night! I could have stayed at least another 3 days. It was so much more then I could have hoped for. My friend & I got a little scared when one of the neighborhood wolves decided to say hello with a few midnight howls! He was very close. LOL We hot tailed it into the house & made the guys go put the fire out. :-) Needless to say it was time to stay inside. The view of the water is breathtaking. The barges all light up at night are amazing & the stars. WOW!!! Thank you thanks you Thank you!

I spent a weekend in July at this house and it was amazing. The house is gorgeous and has beautiful views of the lake. I spent each morning sitting on the rocks enjoying a cup of coffee. My husband and I are already thinking of returning next year.
