Casa Grande on the Blanco @ Shade Ranch sits on a bluff overlooking the Blanco River on an historic, tree-covered, 25-acre property offering tranquility and seclusion and 513 feet of private river access–all within the Wimberley city limits! The riverfront is framed by large Cypress trees and offers a deep swimming hole (4+ feet) that is great during both normal and drought times. Casa Grande offers over 2,800 square feet of space for family entertainment. The house was upgraded in 2013 with new granite counters, flooring, paint, bathroom fixtures, tile, etc. With two large living areas and three dining areas (2 indoor and 1 outdoor), Casa Grande is perfect for family or large group gatherings. One living area is the extraordinary 'River Room.' Stunning views of the Blanco River below beckon from three walls of windows. Open the windows and enjoy the sounds of the river rapids. The second living area is a club-like setting wrought from the original cabin.The spacious master suite includes a king size bed, a comfortable sitting area, television, and a private bath.
Relax and Enjoy the Property: Located just off the River Room, you will find a wonderful, large outdoor hot tub. It is a private place to unwind while admiring the brilliant stars above and the murmuring headwaters of the Upper Blanco River below. Follow the limestone steps near the hot tub down to the 513 feet of private river access below. The river will invite you to swim or wade in its cool waters and leave all worries behind. Or grab your fishing rod! Fly Fishing magazine identifies the Upper Blanco River areas as '. . . one of the best fly fishing spots in Texas.' Bring your kayak or canoe, and don't forget the floats and water shoes for tubing down the rapids. We have stayed at several places in the hill country but this is our favorite. It is private and scenic, yet only minutes from Wimberly with restaurants, cute shops, and a grocery store. We had 2 young children and there were plenty of toys, books and games to keep them busy. Clean, we'll maintained and charming.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We stayed at this property years ago before it was Shade Ranch and thought it was good then. We returned this holiday season with the property under new ownership and were surprised at how many improvements have been made to the property! The new ownership has really taken Shade Ranch to the next level and this is truly one of the best rental properties we have every reserved. And to make it even better, the owners are really great to work with! We would absolutely recommend this for anyone looking to have a nice quiet and relaxing family outing.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

This has been a wonderful place for our family annual get together. We have all ages and everyone has a great time. We enjoyed a 4 day weekend and family reunion here this October. We had eight adults and the place could have held more. Beautiful location, right on the Blanco river and 5 minutes from “downtown” Wimberley. Excellent kitchen utensils , plates, silverwares. Everything you need for making three huge meals each day! If you want relaxing, quiet, beautiful. This is the placeRecommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children.

This was the best vacation we have ever had. Our family wished we had booked longer. We will next time. The house was very accomodateing for all 14 of us. The river was gorgous. We stayed in the Little House last year and loved it so much that we took the whole family back this year. We loved our stay and were able to enjoy cooking meals together (with the fully stocked kitchen), reading, letting the kids play (they had plenty of toys on hand for the little ones), soaking in the hot tub at night and drifting on the river during the day. It's an absolutely magical property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Our stay at Shade Ranch was just what our family needed. The swimming hole was ideal for our 5 children under 8, and the close proximity to town(which has plenty of excellent restaurants and a great grocery store) made meals a cinch. Recently had a trip with 11 friends to visit the house, and WOW was the only response that we had for the Casa Grande! The house has all amenities, from towels for 12 people to pots and pans for cooking. Tons of places to sleep, and two very comfortable spaces for spending time together as a large group. Outside, the privacy and well-maintained grounds were relaxing and comfortable for all. The river was perfect, and the privacy of the area helped keep everything very relaxed and casual. Everything about this house was worth the price, and the owner is both friendly and accommodating. Already planning our return trip to the Casa Grande!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

I do not know how to express what a wonderful time my family had at Shade Ranch. We stayed at both the large and small house. Everyone, young and old, could not say enough about how this was the perfect vacation spot. The river was great for the young children and for us older children too. We swam, we kyaked, we sat in the river and just relaxed. The house is set up to accomadate a large group without any problem, In the evening we would all go out on the patio, some would play horseshoes and others would just enjoy the peace and quite. We did not get out the door before everyone made me promise that we would come back. Thank you so much for providing a beautful place to spend our family vacations.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children.

About the owner: The Norvell family hails from Houston, TX where we, like most Americans, lead over-booked lives full of schoolwork, school activities, sports, civic, and work responsibilities. We enjoyed a most relaxing vacation at Shade Ranch in 2008. In fact, we loved it so much that we purchased it three months later. Our kids are young and our parents and family do not live nearby. We wanted a place for our extended family to get together to run, swim, climb, spend time as a family, and just enjoy the beauty of nature. We hope your family enjoys Shade Ranch as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose Wimberley:
Shade Ranch in Wimberley Texas is a perfect location for us because it is 3 hours from Houston door to door and only 1 hour from the Austin or San Antonio airport. Our parents and extended family and friends often join us for vacations at Shade Ranch. With beds for 14 and two large indoor family gathering rooms at Casa Grande, we have room for many to reunite under one roof. We appreciate the seclusion of the 25 acres while making full use of the conveniences of the Village of Wimberley. We regularly utilize the nearby groceries, pharmacies, restaurants, wineries, hardware and other stores. We appreciate the many nearby state parks and towns that make up the Texas Hill Country!
