I have never been one to write a review for vacation accommodation, but after spending just under a week at Michael & Catherine’s lovely Chelsea studio I felt strongly compelled to share my thoughts of my experience. It was the first time to New York for my girlfriend and I as a couple (we had both been several times on our own) so had already done the so called touristy things, this time we wanted to experience living like real New Yorkers. The amazing location of the studio certainly did help with this; we were in walking distance to everything we wanted to. Close to great restaurants and café’s. The room itself was very tastefully decorated and was extremely clean on arrival. The view from the studio was quite special, it was just of a little garden but I thought that was quite special and unique for downtown Manhattan. The bed was very comfortable and was just perfect after the long hours we spent on our feet discovering Manhattan again. Both my fiancé and I (I proposed at the end of our trip) would come back in a heartbeat and have not stopped praising the place to friends and family.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This was our first time to go to NYC and Michael's apt. could not have been more perfect. Michael was exceptionally accommodating and informative--in a city where that is not the norm. He provided so much helpful information and just the perfect amount of advice so as to not overwhelm on a first trip. The apartment is as depicted in the pictures--very well manicured and cared for. It is a perfect place to relax from all the walking that comes with a New York excursion and in the evening at the end of a long day. So much better than a hotel. The location is perfect to meet almost every need-- CVS, grocery store, a subway stop, restaurants (stay away from Dallas BBQ), coffee shops, or wherever you may wish to go on foot. The Chelsea Market should not be missed on a Saturday morning for breakfast--and we didn't really discover 10th street until our last day...so don't get caught only going one way. Thanks Michael for your hospitality!!!! The HoldensDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a good experience. Clean, tidy, nice linens, kitchen stocked with coffee, filtered water, it was so comfortable for us. Great part-location close to HighLine Park, great food, and can get anywhere by foot, cab or subway. Only 1 flight of stairs to walk up to the apartment. Nice neighbors and a washer/drier if you need it. Things to note-in NYC you cannot smoke inside many places, so people smoke outside. We had smoke in our room nightly as people smoked cigarettes out the back door of the apartment complex in the garden and it came in despite closed windows. If you are sensitive it might bother you. Also there are dogs in the building that bark- even in the wee morning....bring earplugs! This is all worth it , I would stay again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: to clarify: we are not located in an apartment complex rather we are a privately owned townhouse. all of the premises are smokefree including the garden in the back of the house. the groundfloor apartment is occupied by the owner (me) who is the sole person with access to the garden area ; alas , I dont smoke and neither do my dogs which while they bark once in a while as dogs are supposed to do, they do so rather sporadically and certainly not in the "wee hours of the night" as they are lazy and prefer to sleep ;) just wanted to correct those points as they might create the impression of a smokefilled house occupired by rabid dogs, something which could not be further from reality... that aside thank you for your otherwise generous review ! Michael

My girlfriend and I took our first trip to NYC in Dec and it was outstanding! This studio apartment is exactly as represented and was perfect for us - quiet, convenient and safe. It's well equipped, updated and very clean. I loved that we could overlook the garden not a brick wall! Michael (owner) was very helpful answering questions and providing plenty of great recommendations. Several very good restaurants around the corner. Go to Chelsea Market for an incredible selection of food (enjoyed eating in on occassion) Subway is an easy 2 blocks away. And if you like gardens DON"T miss the High LIne - even in December it was beautiful!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

Michael made our stay here fantastic, and he had great stories to tell. What an amazing location (quiet street, yet in the thick of the great Chelsea scene), and a great deal. Mere steps to the High Line, and great access to the subway for excursions all over the city. We've been to New York many times, and this trip was the best yet. Whole Foods is nearby so you can stock up and do a little cooking or just get some wine and snacks for your bike ride along the water... though it's tough to resist the many excellent restaurants nearby. Cookshop, Collichio and Sons, Buddakan, Morimoto, Trestle on Tenth, the Tipsy Parson, El Quixote (where Patti Smith and Robert Maplethorpe were young and pretty together), Cafeteria at 7th and 17th (open 24 hours) ... it's all within walking-home-at-2-am distance. And super close to Chelsea Piers so you can sweat off all those small plates and artisanal cocktails you ordered last night. It was nice to have room to hang out between our busy day outings and going out at night. And did I mention the rooftop garden? (Maybe I shouldn't; that might be a little secret between Michael and us.)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My husband and I spent a lovely week in New York recently - made all the more special and comfortable by staying at No. 446. Like a home away from home - exactly as the website says! Perfect location with easy access to all the important sights. Shops and restaurants all within walking distance and the Highline on your door-step which was wonderful The view of the garden provides a little oasis and is such a tranquil atmosphere when you return in the evening from a busy day sightseeing. The owners Michael and Catherine were kindness itself and so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much for them to do for us. We certainly would recommend the apartment to anyone going to NYC and would definitely stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

From the minute we inquired, to the time we left, this apartment was a winner. Michael, the owner, made sure our every need was tended to and was a very efficient communicator. The apartment was perfect for 2...fully equipped, clean and quiet, with a nice view of the courtyard. Located near all transportation, it was convenient to get around. There are many restaurants within walking distance, and the Highline is one block away. Eataly and Whole Foods are close, too. I am a picky traveler and will definitely stay here again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Michael warmly greeted me when I arrived and showed me the wonderful apartment and explained a little about the area. He was available to answer any questions I had and very friendly and helpful. I loved the apartment and would have liked to stay longer. It is right next to the very cool High Line and super easy to walk to so much like Chelsea Piers, Chelsea Market, restaurants, subway, etc. I'd give 6 stars if it were an option :) Michael also installed a new fence in his lovely backyard while I was there....really terrific experience!Did you find this review helpful? Stayed in this lovely apt. for 4 nights with my sister and it was just right. Great space, nicely furnished, perfect location with a lovely view of the garden that owner Michael tended to carefully. If ever we had a question or need, Michael was right there to help. He provided an extensive list of places to eat along with maps and guides to various areas around the city. If there is such a thing, it might also be helpful to offer a larger subway map as well. Counter space in bathroom was limited, but it's a minor issue. Wifi and TV worked beautifully. If you're there in winter, the pipes can rattle a bit for heat, but otherwise it is super quiet. It was fun to meet the dogs - they were very well behaved our entire visit. Make sure you walk along the Highline which is one block away; Whole Foods is just around the corner, too. We will stay here again!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.
