Historic property of the Civil War era: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2,923 acre National Battlefield that preserves a key Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Over 67,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or captured during this campaign. The Park today has many hiking trails, including a trail to the top of Kennesaw Mountain, at 1800 feet, the highest point in the Atlanta metro area. You can walk up the 700 feet from the Visitor Center to summit, or take the bus!
Civil War Relics found on property: Based on the remnants of trench lines and skirmish pits we have found on our property, we know that it was a site of significant combat during the battle. We have found many Civil War relics on our property, including bullets, buttons, buckles and the like. You are of course welcome to walk the property, but we request that you leave it undisturbed. We consider all relics on the place to be part of the property. Just as you wouldn’t take our silverware home, we expect you will leave any relics you happen upon undisturbed.

We truly loved our weekend stay at Kennesaw Cottage as it allowed four generations of us to have precious time together and when needed, time apart too. My mother in law commented it was the cleanest, well stocked home we ever stayed in and we have traveled together to many places. My father in law, who often prefers hotel lodging, was amazed by the Master suite which seems to go on forever. Having the Master bedroom on the other side of the main entry hall is also a plus for folks who may want serenity from the other two bedrooms and living areas. And we all appreciated the comfort and size of the common areas of the cottage. I should mention there are two conversation areas in the living room which made a big difference as the kids (when not outside exploring) sat on the large sofa and used the coffee table for games, electronics, books etc and the “men folk” reclined in classic, upholstered chairs that flanked the fireplace area like a small, private lodge. All three full baths are perfect, modern and colorful. My favorite room is the vast screened porch with comfy cozy vintage furniture, ceiling fan, assorted lighting options which create incredible ambiance that reflect the wooded peacefulness of a 1940’s campgrounds. Combine that with the fact that you’re mere minutes from major shopping and restaurants and it’s a win, win. It certainly was hard to leave Kennesaw Cottage in the woods. Our Home Away experience was perfect! It was exactly as advertised, The cottage was clean, well maintained, and very well equipped! It was quite roomy, and absolutely lovely, inside and out.
