A Historic Sandstone Building is the location for this 700 sq. ft. Townhouse. A private entrance will lead you up a 14' ascent on new oak stairs. First, you will enter into the spacious living room, complete with sofa, love-seat, overstuffed chair and 32" flat-screen TV. The grand, arched windows along the front give light and space to this area and provide glimpses of both Battle Mt above and the street and people below.

On the other end of the open design living area is the modern Maple and Stainless Steel kitchen. Fully stocked with cookware and unique stoneware, this set-up will make you feel like a real entertainer. Gorgeous slate tile is under foot and surrounds the one-of-a-kind tile and steel island. 4 Stools pull up to give you a very unique place to have a drink, breakfast or converse with the bartender/cook.

Also in this area is the dining/game table. Seating 4, it provides a place for sit-down dinners, game night, or planning your next excursion.

The 2 bedrooms are not next to each other for extra privacy. Extra pillows add to your comfort.

The front bathroom is our 'Spa Room'. Rounded features and a cascade of ocean colors encourage you to feel fresh and energized.

Our 2nd bathroom is our 'Old-World Retreat". Loaded with tile and glass, this room invites you to relax and stay awhile. The contoured tub is great for soaking and the glass shower doors say 'elegance'.

The back entrance leads out to a deck that has a table, umbrella, 4 chairs and a gas grill. The deck is extremely peaceful in the morning and evening, a bit hot in the heat of day. Views of buildings are surprisingly mixed with views of trees and the 7 Sister Range. The gated courtyard below is a handy spot to lock up your motorcycles, bikes or accessories.

The entire townhouse is a 'great escape'. Atmosphere is relaxed, modern, pampered, but not too pricey. The art and decor have been carefully acquired and placed to give the guest a balancing effect of contrasting textures and emotions.

The location is 1 block from a fine walking/bicycling path that follows the Fall River through town. Groceries, dining and various shops are within easy walking distance. The townhouse is a short drive from the Mammoth Site and only a few blocks away from the VA.

Deluxe Townhouse-Your Black Hills Oasis in Hot Springs Sd

Year Purchased: 2001

Why the Owner Chose Hot Springs

We bought this property in 2001 initially to use the bottom floor. The sandstone gives the building alot of history and character and we remodeled the first floor into a retail/salon space. We have put alot of heart and thought into what to do with the top floor. The townhouse was a perfect fit. We can use it when we want, and others can enjoy our effort too! We plan to stay here for many, many years and the proximity to the woods, parks, caves and animals make it perfect for us!

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome

The urban feel takes you away from the day-to-day feel of the street. There is easy access to the town, yet privacy 'up above' our uptown street. Wendee: My favorite is the spa-like atmosphere of the bathrooms. In the 'old-world', I feel like I'm back in Rome, surrounded by tile and earthy tones. Soaking in the contoured tub is a 'take-me-away' experience. In contrast, our 'round' bathroom makes me smile, knowing how we tried to maximize our space and give this a breezy, wavy feel. It makes me feel fresh, and reminds me of the ocean. We both really like our front window area. The big arched windows are fun for people-watching and bring in so much light and space. The kitchen island ends up being everyone's favorite hang-out. We're usually behind it, entertaining and enjoying the kitchen while our friends watch and converse. You can see the dining area and the living area behind it, so it makes a great 'command post'. The deck is a very quiet place even though it is above building and an alley. We retreated here when our log home in the woods was threatened by a forest fire. Up in the air, we were able to relax and let the breeze calm us and the occasional bat fly-by was a bonus.

Owner's Map of Hot Springs

Hi There-We're your hosts, Reese and Wendee Pettis and we'd love to show you all the things to love in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Here's our love story: Originally from CA, Reese was raised in SD with a love for wildlife, nature and art. He graduated from the Phoenix Institute of Technology (Arts Degree) and returned to the Hills in 86. Soon after, he met SD farm-raised cosmetologist Wendee, who also loved wildlife, nature and anything creative. In addition, she loved to travel, having made trips to several countries with more on her list. The two indulged in their passions-ones learned separately and then together; painting, exploring, caving, diving, dirt-biking, attending the theatre, pets, wildlife, and building things with their own hands. On top of this, the love of travel grew for both of them. Trips to France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belize and points around the USA have provided many adventures. Favorite escape? Home away from home-their beloved Mexico with the beautiful Mayan people and the fabulous ocean full of life. Settling in Hot Springs in 1993, they built an original log home from trees and boulders (leading to Reese's business of log cabins and log accents), started a salon business, kept up the adventures and continued to spend alot of time together. Today, we are busy and remind ourselves to take time for recreation. The townhouse project has been a labor of love and patience. Planning it together, Reese did the work-the teardown, the engineering, building it back up from the studs and joists and project by project, saw his work come together in a lovely building. Communicating throughout, we decided on the 'atmosphere' and stuck to it. The end result has been satisfying for us and will no doubt give us plenty of ideas for the future.

Hot Springs Townhouse

Guest: None (Not applicable)
Date of Stay: 12/04/11 Review Submitted: 12/19/11

This is a beautifully crafted Townhouse. It is spacious, comfortable, and convenient. Although on the main street of the town, it is peaceful and quiet because of it's thick walls. It is very well maintained, and the owners are helpful and respond to questions and requests promptly. The town of Hot Springs has interesting and unique architecture consisting of numerous red sandstone buildings and the building of the townhouse I believe is from the 1890's. The Southern Black Hills are gorgeous with Wind Caves National Park and Custer State Park close by. I highly recommend this as probably the best accomadation in the area.

We stayed here for the Lean Horse race and the location and amenities were fantastic. Wendee was quite helpful and we were grateful for this comfortable, quiet place right downtown. Would definitely return!

Perfect!

I will start by saying that I don't usually take the time to write reviews - that being said, this place was perfect and it would be an injustice to not write one! We have been to Hot Springs a few times for vacation and typically have found the accommodations in town to be less than ideal to say the least. We stayed for 4 nights with another couple and all of us could not have been happier. The place is very tastefully decorated, has a ton of great amenities, is refined and immaculate! Wendee was a great host and did everything she could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Thanks so much for having us, there is no question that we will be back! John from Minnesota
