Malibu Cottage in an Olive Grove
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Just 35 minutes from Santa Monica is a place of wild beauty and serenity. The cottage in the olive grove sits among a new grove of olives and looks out over the beautiful blue Pacific. The cottage is entirely separate from the main building and is completely private.
Trails run from the house up into the Santa Monica Mountains, all the way to the Backbone Trail -- the spine of the west for hikers, runners, and riders. Surfing, swimming and kayaking are all to be found at Zuma Beach which is minutes away. Local vineyards offer tastings, and the produce from local farms is available on a seasonal basis, shopping and restaurants and movies theaters can be found 10 minutes away.
If you just want to relax, curl up with a book in the "nest" chair on the screened verandah and laze away the afternoon looking at the ocean and the hills. Or take a shower in the garden among the roses, or nap on the hammock under the trees.
As our guests you have access to the 2 miles of trails on our 19 acre property at any time. There are spectacular views and in spring the local wildflowers change the chaparral into a garden. Wild deer and rabbits come to the meadow below us and the hummingbirds hover when you take a shower in the garden.
The sunsets are a photographer's dream whether you view them from our lawn or down on the beach. The cottage in the olive grove offers you a simple but comfortable escape from the noise of the world and a unique view of Malibu.

Coming from a quiet farm in rural Georgia to a "Hollywood" wedding, we worried how overwhelmed and uncomfortable we might be in this area. Oh my! We could not have been more comfortable and content! We loved this place, more than any other place we visited in Malibu. We even entertained the people we were visiting, THERE, and they couldn't believe we found such a beautiful and comfortable place for so great a price. We will be back! Lovely, lovely, lovely!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We have stayed in many cottages, villas and other vacation rentals, over the years. My husband and I both had the most relaxing stay at the Olive Grove Cottage. The daybeds are so perfect for reading, or surfing the net, or just drinking our coffee, while taking in the awesome views. Even in December, the outdoor showers were incredible. I love an outdoor shower! The cottage is close enough to wineries and some great roads through the canyons. We even saw Jay Leno driving one of his steam engine cars, on one of our road trips! That was a sight to see! I am getting the itch to spend another long weekend here. Jillian is also a pleasant owner, with all the answers we needed, to really make the best of a short trip.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We had a wonderful time at this cute Malibu Cottage. It is as private as you can get. The screened porch is a great place to sit and read a book. They have a nice outdoor fireplace stocked with wood and the outdoor showers are great! The owners were so nice. We will be back!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.

My boyfriend and I spent his 30th birthday/New Year's at the cottage and it couldn't have been a more perfect location. Absolutely gorgeous views and only a short drive to beautiful Pointe Dume/Zuma Beach area which we highly recommend! Jill & Sparky are absolutely wonderful. We couldn't even tell that they were around unless we needed them and when we needed their assistance, they were readily available! The cottage is a great place for a relaxing getaway and we can't wait to return!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I cannot rave enough about this wonderful cottage. It was so charming and the location was spectacular. But most of all, was the warmth, generosity and hospitality of the owners who made our visit one we will remember for many years to come. We celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary with friends here, and we were just stunned how special a place it was to be. The photos don't do it justice, it was far more lovely than we could have imagined. We will keep coming back!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We just stayed at this quaint, secluded cottage for the weekend to celebrate my fiance's birthday and let me tell you we were not ready to leave. From the breathtaking views in the "yoga room" to sipping champagne in the jacuzzi at sunrise this place could not get any better. And honestly the cottage DOES look better in person and I thought the pictures were cool! It was so indescribably beautiful.. and what a treat to get away from the noise and bustle of the city. The place is adorable with personal touches here and there to make it cozy (quilts on the chairs, fluffy pillows in the "nest", an array of books and dvds). Upon our arrival we were greeted with complimentary wine and cheese, which made everything that much more special. What we loved the most is the peace and quiet. We hiked and lounged at Point Dume for the day and came back to the cottage to read and nap before having a DELICIOUS dinner at The Sage Room (for those of you who have never been, order the homemade ravioli stuffed with pumpkin and amaretto). There were so many more activities we wanted to do but in the end we were hypnotized by the peace and serenity of the cottage. Thank you for such a memorable and truly unforgettable experience!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

My wife and I, along with our teenage son, recently returned from a 2 night stay at this wonderful cottage. The owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The property is every bit as beautiful as the photos and descriptions in the listing. We woke to misty mornings and ended our days with a glass of wine by the fire in the beautiful garden. We also enjoyed the hot tub while gazing at the stars. During the day we took scenic walks and runs through the Santa Monica Mountains. Although there is a trail right from the cottage, the owners suggested the Zuma Loop Trail about a 5 min. drive away. I took a run through the trail while my wife took a very peaceful walk. We dined at the nearby Geoffrey's Restaurant enjoying a fantastic meal at a table with a gorgeous view of the waves, followed by a walk on the beach. We can't wait to go back to this beautiful cottage above the ocean! Thank you!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

I looked at every single vacation rental in Malibu, and I picked the most perfect one. The pictures on this site do not capture the beauty of this cottage and location. I was blown away when I saw the cottage and I had one of the best nights of my life. Jill, the owner of the cottage, is the sweetest woman. Although I was only staying for a night, she took care of every need of mine and went above and beyond my requests. The cottage is very private, has a gorgeous garden with outdoor furniture, a hot tub, a fire pit, 2 outdoor showers, and a breathtaking view. Everything from the hardwood floor to the bedding to the china and dishes is perfect. I have traveled all over the world, and this is the most romantic place/environment I have ever experienced. Everything is in top and working condition, and Jill will make sure you have everything you need for the perfect stay. I did a thorough research of this place, and it is far and beyond any picture, words, or expectation. Any excuse for me to get away, I will be at the Olive Grove Cottage....and I will never stop talking about it to all of my friends. Thank you to Jill for giving me the most special evening.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: My husband and I are trail runners and garden enthusiasts. We have lived together in the Santa Monica Mountains for 25 years and are still discovering the magic of this stunning mountain range on a daily basis. We love sharing our corner of the coast with people and showing them the best that the beaches and the hills have to offer. Locals from mountain bikers, to runners to horseback riders to deer and others stop at the water fountain by our gate on the way up and down the trails. We planted over 200 olive trees five years ago and are now watching them fruit. Our lives are busy and fulfilled and we feel privileged to live in such a beautiful place.
Why the Owner Chose Malibu:
We always dreamed of having a house on a hill overlooking the ocean and were lucky enough to be able to buy at the right time. Malibu has a growing allure as a vacation destination and we realized that other people would have the same dream that we did.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Serenity, peace, quiet, privacy -- and all within 10 minutes of the beach, shopping, marketing and Malibu's relaxed lifestyle. Watching the sunset from the daybed on the screened verandah, taking a long, lovely shower in the garden after a trail run down the mountain at our backs, eating a caprese salad made from the fresh tomatoes and lettuce at the Zuma farms. A day at the cottage is like a week anywhere else -- we emerge, relaxed, refreshed and restored to the world.
