The 1-bedroom Ocean View Apt. has 3 big picture windows facing the across-the-street beach with uninterrupted ocean views; the 1-bedroom Cottage sits behind it next to a blooming mountain jungle. Auntie began accepting guests in 1983 and just welcomed second generation honeymooners from one of her first brides and grooms.
North Shore Kauai is for romance, music, healing, relaxation, peace and outdoor experiences. Auntie, who has never advertised, is "home-away-from-home" to writers, musicians, honeymooners, anniversary celebrants, photographers, travelholics, and those in need of privacy. The Aloha Spirit is a way of life and not a slogan at Auntie's.
The rentals are light, airy, and simply furnished with original Hawaiian art on the walls. Built in the 1940s, they represent a bygone lifestyle. If you can forego a big-screen TV and game machines, accept the sound of roosters and put up with desired minor repairs that are evaded by the handyman, you will find your haven here.

Why the Owner Chose Haena
Kauai chose me my first day here. That 1st night I realized "Paradise had 'for sale' signs". Life was immediately changed so as to be here ASAP. Within 2 years we had purchased this Kauai home and moved to Alaska for better paying jobs. (Auntie was paid 2/3d the salary of men professors ; Alaska paid the women and men the same salaries for the same positions). After Iniki in 1992, Aunties Holiday Rentals started accepting guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
Auntie's Holiday Rentals is quiet, casual and private. Guests come here to unwind, heal, honeymoon and enjoy the gorgrous North Shore, the oldest part of the oldest island in the Hawaiian chain. Outdoor activities, on land and sea, abound.
Owner's Map of Haena
Now a senior citizen, we came to Kauai in 1976 as barely seasoned professionals, fell hook, line and sinker for Kauai and rearranged our lives to be here. With no jobs on this then agricultural island, we moved from Marin, CA to Alaska "for the money", worked in Juneau, Anchorage and Nome for 5 years and ended up homesteading in the "banana belt" (on an island 45 minutes by skiff from Petersburg). Alaska remains part of life. After years of travel, and working as a lawyer and Merchant Mariner, Kauai had morphed from a plantation island to a tourist destination. This allowed me to make a career switch and Auntie also became known as Sunny-Wyanne Bunyan, licensed Hawaii realtor. My license hangs with O'Connor Realty LLC, 4244 Kilauea Rd., Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii 96754, a boutique firm yet one of the Top Ten brokerage offices on Kauai. (808-977-8692).
