Canyon View is the former Palm Springs residence of musician Don Tosti. Honored with a star on Palm Spring's Walk of Fame, Tosti forged a career spanning several decades and styles, from classical to jazz and rhythm and blues. He is best remembered for his big band-style compositions like the hit 'Pachuco Boogie'. Recorded in 1948, it was the first million-selling Latin song.
The house is conveniently situated just south of the village, in a tranquil neighborhood of Old Palm Springs homes and estates built in the 1930s and 1940s. Within walking distance are are many popular shops and restaurants including Koffi, El Mirasol, Davey's Hideaway and King's Highway. The property boasts expansive views of the south canyon and the peak of Mount San Jacinto, one of the tallest in California.
The interior features an open plan with ample-sized rooms and high pitched, wooden planked ceilings. The floors are tiled throughout and finished with natural fiber floor coverings. Each room is appointed with a comfortable and stylish mix of original artwork, one-of-a-kind period collectables, and modern classic furnishings from the likes of Le Corbusier, George Nelson, Dorothy Draper, Harry Bertoia, and Ray and Charles Eames.
A large great room with a stone hearth and ten foot dining table opens through French doors onto the pool terrace surrounded by ficus, olive and palm trees. With a corner exposure facing east, south and west, the pool area is bathed in a warm glow and mountain views from dawn until dusk. The great room adjoins to the kitchen on one side and family room on the other. The kitchen is equipped for a serious cook, and invites gathering at the granite-topped bar and light-filled dining nook. The family room is anchored by a massive masonry fireplace and 52 inch flat screen HDTV. It opens onto a verdant and shaded rear patio with a gas grill and outdoor fireplace.
Three of the four bedrooms are located in the west wing. They all feature king size beds. The master suite is well proportioned with a large walk in closet and tiled bathroom with stall shower. The remaining two bedrooms in the wing share a hall bath with stall shower and separate tub. The fourth bedroom, tucked into the eastern corner of the house, has a queen bed and shared bathroom with stall shower.

We come to Palm Springs every year in February with a group of friends and have always stayed in a different house each time. This house, by far, felt the most like home, with its eclectic furnishings art work and tchotchkes. The kitchen was well equipped, the dining table was gorgeous and very large for our dinner party of 8 and the pool and Jacuzzi was warm and clean. Nick was great, helpful and quickly came back to the house when we were having trouble with the television, which was resolved immediately. We never left the house for 3 days as we were all so comfortable and enjoying the house. We can't wait to come back again!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.

Great house for family gatherings. The south facing pool is the focal point of outdoor activities. This is an older house with a soul. Amazingly quiet and interesting neighborhood. Walk a mile to downtown for dinner. Easy drive to groceries at Ralph's two miles away or several restaurants within blocks. Working with the property manager Nick was a pleasure. Nick is also a contractor and Realtor so if you are house hunting you just found your person.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My hats off to Nick and the Canyon View residence. It was the right mix of class and comfort, located at the bottom of the strip it was an easy cab ride anywhere in Palm Springs you wanted to go. The house, itself, was nicely decorated with a ton of room making it the most relaxing place I've stayed in a long time. The views of the canyon and surrounding hills from the pool are worth the price of admission alone. I would recommend this place as a couples retreat anytime of the year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house was such a great find. We were a group of 4 women escaping the rain in Portland and just wanted to sit by the pool, eat and drink. The house was really gorgeous with every amenity - beautiful flat screen, ipod docking stereo, gas grill, Wi-Fi and a beautifully equipped kitchen - we were wine and cocktail drinkers and they had all the right glassware (and martini shaker). We also cooked 3 of the 4 nights there and the kitchen is for cooks with every tool and pan you need (lots of vacation rentals are pretty lame here). It felt like someone's home with all their best stuff, decor and all for you to use. The pool area had comfy loungers, lots of big towels and an easy-to-operate heating system for the pool and the hot-tub. Loved the view of the mountains from the pool. 4 spacious bedrooms in a quiet neighborhood and 2 blocks from the strip with great spots all right there: Ace Hotel was fab (drinks in cocktail bar), Mirasol had excellent Mexican food and Davey's HIdeaway for late night martinis. Just a couple minutes drive was Leon's on the golf course, which was very cool for drinks (yes, we drank alot!) For the price, this rental had everything we needed and we will be back! The property manager Nick and the owner Mark were nothing but helpful, very responsive and nice!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at this property over Thanksgiving for almost a week. I have never slept more soundly. The place is peaceful, exquisitely appointed, and clearly loved by its owners. We had rented in Palm Springs before and this lovely property is certainly the best. It is close enough to good restaurants and activities yet imbued with an unusual serenity once you enter its doors. Best of both worlds. Spacious and open. Decorated with understated elegance. We plan to return again and again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
