Points of interest, places to go and things to do.
Beaverhead County is rich in history and culture. If arriving in the spring, summer or fall, you may want to check out the museum in downtown Dillon. A wonderful collection of mining, ranching and Dillon history awaits you there.

Bannack State Park is a 20 minute drive from North Camp. Bannack was the territorial capitol of Montana in the late 1800's. Many of the old buildings are still in place. Each year around the 3rd week of July, Bannack holds its annual Bannack Days.

Fun for the entire family!

Dillon hosts one of the biggest rodeos in Montana each year around Labor Day and a county fair that runs a week prior to the rodeo.

Lewis and Clark journeyed through the area and Beaverhead County boosts two locations, Jackson Hot Springs and Beaverhead rock, where the expedition stopped.

The famous Loop takes off right outside North Camp's door. You can travel over the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway to small rustic towns like Wise River, Wisdom and Jackson and be back before dinner!

North Camp is located at the entrance to the Beaverhead/Deerlodge National Forest but there are also other day trips to wilderness areas outside of Jackson, Wisdom and Wise River.

Arrangements can be made for horseback trips in the surrounding mountains. Rates depending on length of time out. There are about 150 miles of groomed trails in the area and snowmobiles are available to rent in several locations or bring your own.

If you enjoy skiing, Maverick Mountain is less than 5 minutes from North Camp. Lots of trails for the experienced and beginner skier alike. Family atmosphere. Seldom are there lines at the lift. Bunny hill for the kids. Head out on your cross-country skis if you prefer the solitude of the back country.

If you enjoy hiking, Coolidge Ghost Town located on the Byway, is worth the walk, or just head out the door at North Camp, Sawtooth Lake trail is a 10 minute drive away and the lake is about a 3 mile hike up.

Crystal Park is located on the Byway, a unique wooded area where crystals of all sizes can be dug up.

The area is rich in trout streams either on the Byway, around Dillon or fish one of the many other river accesses near Wise River and Wisdom. Arrangements can be made for fishing guides.

Attention Hunters! The Grasshopper Valley is a popular area where elk, mule deer and antelope abound.

The cities of Butte, Bozeman and Missoula are all within a 3 hour drive from North Camp is you want to take in 'big city' life here in Montana.

This past May was my second trip to North Camp, the last one being two years ago when it was first available for renting. I found the facility to be very clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was there, and the wildlife so accommodating that we had easy closeup pictures even from inside. There is so much to do in the area, the television in the camp was barely noticed, and I was making plans for the next trip while there. I recommend to anyone planning to go that they first write to the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce in Dillon and ask for all the fliers having to do with activities in the area. They gladly mail them to you. Then plan to stay awhile. I'd like to make this a yearly trip to North Camp, a nice home away from home.

Great place, kitchen with everything you need and plenty of room. I would recomend North Camp to anyone wanting to get away. I prefer a lower price over frills. It was warm and comfy. I want to go back in the summer some time.

For as long as I can remember my grandma wanted to visit Montana. This summer my husband and I decided to make the trip! After the long drive from east Texas, we made it to North Camp. The town/community was absolutely beautiful. The house was in great shape and very accommodating. It had EVERYTHING we needed. The weather was fantastic and we did many activities during our stay. We would strongly recommend Bannack State Park (our 6yr old son was made a Jr. Ranger while we were there), Crystal Park, and hiking on the Sawtooth Trail. Beaverhead National Forest is literally steps from the house and it is amazing. There is Grasshopper Creek steps away from the house also that you can hear rolling through the woods all day. We spent many hours feeding and watching the chipmunks! The woman in charge of the property was kind and very thoughtful. She gave us very accurate directions to the house, called us to make sure we arrived safely, and recommended lots of things to do in the area. Dillon is a great town to visit while you stay in Polaris. They have shops, restaurants, and a grocery store. All of the residents that we met were very welcoming and gave lots of good advice for our visit. Honestly there is so much to say. We had a great vacation at North Camp and hopefully we will be back!

Every year, my Mom, Aunt and I take a "girls vacation" together and this was so much better and cheaper than staying in a hotel. We each had our own room and it felt like our own house in the mountains. There are neighbors, but it was really quiet. We wanted to take in the ghost towns, hot springs and crystal digging, so this place was right in the heart of all of it. The locals are super friendly and are happy to share their history (for hours if you let them!) Nanc the caretaker was very helpful and let us book at the last minute. Bannack Days was fun and we were glad we went in the morning, because of the heat. Bring bug spray and avoid Elkhorn Hot Springs unless you are desperate for a hot soak, you can sit in the hot tub/sauna which is exceptionally hot and cleaner than the outdoor pool. Bring your own food, the kitchen has everything you need as there are few places to eat in the area. Jackson Hot Springs has the best food and the Grasshopper Inn is always happy to serve. I would highly recommend this property especially if you want to take in some MT history and scenery, while avoiding crowds.

I just spent almost two weeks here and had a great time. The location is perfect, nestled into a hillside. The kitchen was well equiped and the beds were comfortable. It was clean, well maintained, and had great customer service. The neighbors were very friendly, came by to see if we needed anything as we had several inches of snow the night before. We did most of our cooking in, but there is The Grasshopper Inn just a few minutes away and you can drive into Dillon where there are several good places to eat. One of our favorites is Sparky's Garage, a 50's themed restaurant where they serve a wonderful hamburger! You can drive to Butte where copper was king during the late 1800's and to Bannack State Park which is an old western town. I would recommend North Camp to anyone who wants a restful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

"Just returned from "North Camp" and it was such a wonderful experience for me, being an avid nature lover. It's very comfortable and very well equipped. It's a comfortable and scenic drive to the area's attractions. There is lots of wildlife in the area. I took a walk to the Beaverhead National Forest, which is just down the road, and encountered deer. The property manager was very helpful in showing us the area, and was very accommodating in taking us to some of the areas most interesting spots. We enjoyed looking for Jasper Rock and also going into the town of Dillon and purchasing jewelry made from the same. I really enjoyed my stay and can't wait to return. Didn't get to fish in the area but would love to return with a fishing pole."
