This newly constructed (2002) Vermont Cape is located on 50 very private acres of rolling open grasslands and pristine woodlands with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield and Vermont's Green Mountains. You'll pass several dairy farms as you find your way to this one of a kind escape location. Situated on a ridge spanning the townships of Greensboro, Craftsbury and Hardwick, this home affords all the comforts of a luxury resort while allowing for all the solitude and peace of mind of an alpine camping trip. The home features beautiful exposed beams, hardwood floors throughout, custom built cabinets, plus two fireplaces. Activities for all seasons abound outside your front door. In summer, there is swimming, biking and hiking; in winter, cross country skiing, sledding and snow mobiling. For lake lovers in the summer, Caspian Lake in Greensboro is only 5 minutes away. For downhill lovers in winter, Stowe and Jay Peak are less than an hour away.
This home sleeps 14 comfortably with six bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths. Included are: downstairs master bedroom with full bath, fireplace, king size bed, and walk in closet; downstairs guest bedroom with full bath and queen size bed; two upstairs bedrooms with queen beds; one upstairs bedroom with two twin beds; upstairs dormitory with four beds. The upstairs also includes two full baths, and a family game and exercise room with television.
The downstairs layout is open. There is an expansive kitchen complete with all modern amenities (two ovens), which leads to a dining area, which leads to a living room with a large brick fireplace. Also included downstairs is a pantry room with washer and dryer and second refrigerator, a separate library and television room with satellite reception, a 1/2 bath for guests, and a warm storage area for coats, boots and winter gear.
For the spring through fall months, there is a large screened in porch with separate dining and sitting areas.
There's more. For the warmer months there is an in-ground heated pool, complete with patio and pool house that includes a changing room, 1/2 bath and outdoor shower. Also, there is a campfire pit area, great for roasting marshmallows and star gazing, and an outdoor basketball court. A two car garage is attached to the main house, separated by a cold mud room.
Greensboro is in the center of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, rich with cultural activities and Vermont charm. Within miles, in every direction, there are countless hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling trails. There are numerous lakes to fish and swim, and nearby Barr Hill preserve offers spectacular views of both the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire and welcomes picnickers. Antique stores can be found in every town.
Burlington is 1 1/4 hrs away; Montpelier is only a 40 minute drive. Downhill skiing at Stowe or Jay Peak is 1 hour away. The hub of Vermont's local food movement is here, with several organic farmers and cheese makers offering their produce at local food markets and outdoor stands. And, of course, all can be found and had at Willey's General Store in Greensboro. The restaurant at the Highland lodge in Greensboro and Claire's restaurant in Hardwick offer some of Vermont's finest dining. Summer months offer a Sunday night concert series on Caspian Lake, and family fun at Circus Smirkus. There is also golf and tennis, open to guests, at the Green Mountain Country Club in Greensboro.

This house is really beautiful. It's in a beautiful and secluded location and it is perfectly located to explore the northern kingdom. The photos are accurate, but don't do justice to this property. The house is spacious and we loved the big kitchen. It's clean and perfectly appointed. The owner, Tom, was really a pleasure to deal with. We hope to find time to go back in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This is the sixth year my family (siblings, spouses, parents, children) has rented a home in the northeast U.S. for our annual trip. The consensus amongst all of us was this was by far the best home we've stayed at and the most fun we've had- to put it in perspective the other homes we've stayed at were pretty great also. There was a big group of us (10 adults, 4 children and 1 infant) and the home was more than spacious. From the get go the experience was positive. The owners were easy to work with in getting the contract signed and there were no hiccups along the way. It mostly felt as if they wanted to share all the home and area has to offer versus earning money on the rental. They were available and forthcoming with information on the home and surrounding areas. It helped us a great deal in planning our week. As the previous reviewer stated, the pictures do not do the home justice. It is phenomenal in all respects and the views are breathtaking. We made use of much of what the home has to offer including the pool which is immaculately kept, the hot tub, fire pit, basketball hoop, grill, cooked big family meals just to name a few things. Away from the home in the nearby towns we went blueberry picking, hiking in Barr Hill, to Caspian lake, the farmers market, the circus that was in town (absolutely loved by the kids), farmstead brewery and the cabot cheese factory. We also made < 1 hour trips to Stowe, Monpelier, and the Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory (another kid favorite). The week was filled with nothing but fun and good times. I hope to be up in Vermont again and can only hope the home is available. You really have to be there to enjoy it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We (family of 6) stayed in this house in July 2011 and had an absolutely wonderful week in the Northeast Kingdom! The pictures and description of this house don't do it justice. The house is spacious, very comfortable and clean, well appointed, and has a great layout to spread out, relax, and enjoy time with friends and family. We've been vacationing around the Caspian Lake for many years, and most properties have that "lake house" feel where you feel like you're roughing it in some fashion. That is absolutely not the case here; you can truly relax in comfort and enjoy all the area has to offer. Plenty of room for large families or multiple families, lots of space for kids to run around (and swim), and wonderful views - the back of the house (and the screened in porch) face almost due west so you can see the sun setting over the mountains. We would definitely come back, and recommend this house to anyone that wants a top-notch house to relax in. I'd imagine it would be equally spectacular in the fall and winter as well. Thanks to the owners for making it available!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
