Location: Bayeux, Lower-Normandy, France, Europe (Bayeux tapestry 1k near 20 Brit Cemeteries, US Cemetery 10k)

Accommodations:  Bed & Breakfast, 8 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 7 Baths (Sleeps 16)

Keywords:  300 Year Old Cottage & House

Property has 300 year old Cider press, and home cider can be sampled.

Property is ideal for families as it is enclosed, with farm animals, including: rabbits, chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, goats, guinea-pigs and donkeys. Battlefield tours on application.

The house is a very old, stone building, once owned by the Catholic Church, hence the name, "Manor of the Deans" (of Bayeux Cathedral). The cottage or gite, next door, is completely equipped for permanent living and is self-contained. It has 2 bedrooms upstairs and a sofa bed in the sitting-room, downstairs. A seperate garden with a closing gate allows children to play safely, away from other people or any of the animals.

3 enormous attics fill the roof; one contains 4 beds, another, 5 and a third, a double bed which may be supplemented by another. The 2 bigger attics each have a shower, lavatory and washbasins. Children or small families normally occupy these 2 attics. The third attic also has its own complete shower room, lavatory and washbasin, to itself, and is normally used by adults.

The courtyard parks cars, out of sight of the anyone in the lane and it also contains a couple of swings and enough grass for young lads to kick a ball around. The animals and fowl are seperated from each other, the large animals being kept in a small orchard beyond the yard. The sheep are in another, bigger orchard, where they act as lawn-mowers and fertilizers.

Two Travelers

We had the good fortune of connecting with this accommodation and its owners Rosemary and the Colonel. Both are masters of good conversation and have a depth of knowledge of the history of the area. The location is exquisitely placed near the D-Day historical sites. In addition we made a day trip to Mont-Saint-Michel from here. It was a treat to return to the peace and serenity of our cottage. We stayed in the cottage and enjoyed the sitting room and its large table and the kitchen, as we preferred to eat lunch out and dinner in the comfort of our "home." Our bedroom and bath were comfortable, clean, and well-appointed including a hair dryer. There was ample hot water for showers. The property and buildings are extremely pleasant. Breakfast was served beautifully and there were delicious choices to fill us up including the best whole-grain-raison-nut bread in the world. The sweet town of Bayeux and its attractions is just a 20 minute walk away through mostly natural areas. Give high consideration to this inviting accommodation to bring you comfort and a great location for your time in this part of Normandy.

Perfect Retreat

I would highly recommend staying at this lovely farmhouse, which we found to be exactly as the owners described. It was a perfect place to relax and a great starting point for visiting the D-Day beaches. Our children (ages 9 and 7) loved the yard, feeding the ducks and goats, spying on the rabbits and guinea pigs and chatting with Rosemary (owner). We enjoyed a tasty dinner in nearby Bayeux and we filled up on fresh pastries and coffee in the morning. The room was very clean, charmingly decorated, comfortable and was able to accommodate all four of us (1 double bed, 1 single and a foldout bed) as we requested to be in the same room. Another treat was the “Map Room” which had a visual display of the D-Day invasion and lots of other interesting memorabilia. The owners were wonderful hosts: gracious, informative and helpful in every way.

Charming Home in Great Location

This was our second stay at Manoir des Doyens and, again, it was a delight to be there. The owners are a wealth of information and most helpful in planning any excursions. This most hospitable couple greets you in the morning with delicious coffee and croissants and welcomes you home after a long day of sightseeing, interested to hear all your stories. We love the charm of this ancient home and the convenience of its location to the D Day beaches as well as Mont St Michel. Bayeux is a great old town with good restaurants and shops. Manoir des Doyens is great value for your money!

Fantastic

Well the pictures do NOT do it justice. The location, and the farm are wonderful. Rosemary and John Micheal are grand people. Great breakfast, good conversation. Located less than a 20 minute walk to down town Bayeux. It was early winter when we went and it was still very beautiful so if one goes in the spring or summer you will be enthralled with the area and the B&B. If you are visiting Normandy and want a relaxed location with nice people this is the place.
