Thinking about a vacation rental on South Whidbey Island? Welcome to our homestead flower farm!
Our cottage is located on Maxwelton Road in the beautiful Maxwelton Valley, 2 miles from Maxwelton beach and close to artsy Langley. This area is one of the most sought after real estate regions on the island, and you will see why! It is quiet and lovely bike riding country where you will likely see wild geese, osprey, ducks, bald eagles, alpacas and other farm animals, sweeping views, homesteads to dream for, and majestic old cedars and firs in lush mixed forest and meadows. Maxwelton Beach, just up the road, is known for its long stretches of walkable sandy beach and westerly views for spectacular sunsets with the Olympic mountains as a majestic backdrop. A great place to drop in a kayak too!
Rustic chic, simple and romantic, our beautiful large space (768 sq ft) is divided into kitchen, bath and one large room. Picture windows look out onto gardens and cedars. High vaulted ceilings with skylights, wood stove, all the basic kitchen necessities to cook your own meals and delicious, clean well water. Wake up in a comfy, 4-poster Queen bed with 100% organic cotton sheets and comforter (divided from the living room by a screen), a stand of regal cedars your view. We also have a pull-out twin bed for a guest or child and an additional futon if needed. Relax in the living room, with TV/DVD, a good book or journal and a smile. Fresh flowers in season grace the space.
Outside, roam our 5 acres of woods and gardens, sit on the chair swing, listen to the birds, take a bike ride or a hike at nearby Whidbey Institute-a 100 acre nature preserve. Simply RELAX.
If you really want to know what it is like to live on Whidbey Island, or to begin your own homestead, (as a working class family), we'd be happy to talk with you and teach you some basics. Our community is the best part of Island Life.

Lovely, in every way. Owner was extremely responsive to our requests--although we didn't have many, since the cottage has pretty much everything we needed. Privacy, quiet, small but very functional kitchen, beautiful trees, comfy bed, easy access to beaches (a couple of miles)--and a friendly golden retriever! We plan to return!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

This private, spacious and incredibly hip cottage has not been done justice in the pictures. It is comfortable, clean and beautiful. Also, don't let the price fool you; the cottage is stunning with large windows, a skylight and surrounded by rich greenery. I absolutely fell in love with our "home" for 5 nights. The comfortable sleeping area is tastefully separated by a divider for privacy. We woke each morning feeling refreshed and energized. The kitchen was just big enough to comfortably cook (we went out), and has a charming table that could easily seat six. There was a great binder filled with suggestions and island history we enjoyed looking through. We had privacy but were close enough to the owners house to walk over if we had any problems (we didn't). I We also loved the finishing touch of having a phone in the cottage, complete with a phone number and and answering machine. We also requested wi-fi and they opened that up to us as well for no additional charge. The cottage is huge! For less than the price of a decent hotel room we got space, comfort and privacy, not to mention a perfect wooded location off the main road. Staying at this cottage made me long for the time I spent as a resident of the island in my childhood. It was difficult to leave! Next time we know to plan for a much longer trip, and know also the perfect place to stay. If 6 stars were available, this cottage would get it. Don't pass this one up; it is a definite keeper!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This cottage is quite the find. It's serene, fresh and clean (no funny smells) thoughtfully arranged and supplied, cozy and spacious with high ceilings and lots of windows and skylights to bring in the natural light. It's perfect as a base for exploring the area (Kathryn provides a great list of favorite local spots to check out), and it's perfect for a personal retreat as well. Bring your own food, your art, your writing, your reading, and you'll have no need to leave this happy, comfortable, private, light-filled haven. The queen bed is warm and very comfortable. The shower is walk-in, no tub. The cottage sits about 50 yards off the road, between the road and the owner's home on their lovely flower farm property which you are free to roam. The owners are friendly and very available to you if you have questions or requests, and they will leave you to yourself if it's solitude you're after. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Don't let the pictures fool you.... This cottage is really clean, quiet, private and comfortable for 2 adults and a big dog to stay for 4 days. Downtown Langley was only 10min away, Double Bluff Beach was just 10-15min away - the location was perfect too. We cannot wait to go back to the cabin!Recommended for: Pet owners.

My friend and I rented the cabin to stay in for the weekend of a wedding of a friend of mine. It was perfect as it was super close to the wedding site ( Fireseed Catering) and was a nice comfortable place to sleep and use as a base for exploring the area. Langley is a very nice quiet town with some interesting shops and pretty views. We ate breakfast at Niel's Four Clovers Cafe, the waitstaff were very friendly and the food was tasty. Kathryn was very helpful with giving us ideas of things we could do when we had a few hours before the wedding.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This was a perfect home base for several days of hiking and adventuring both on Whidbey as well as excursions to the mainland. Since it rained most of the time we were there, the cottage presented a warm and welcoming refuge when we returned each night drenched from a day spent playing outdoors. Kathryn was more than accommodating of our last minute seat of the pants schedule changes. All of the previous reviews are accurate in their well founded praise of Cedar Moon Cottage. The price is actually comparable to staying in a motel room, but what you get for the money is oh so much more--like a real home! Quite simply--we loved it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Don’t let the price make you think this is some substandard shack. This is a fantastic place to spend a day or a month, well worth the $150/night other places charge: lots of room, many windows to view the forest, original wooden floor in the kitchen and new carpet in the rest, pine wainscoting throughout, a glass-door wood stove with all wood you need provided, TV with several dozen videos, a super-comfy 4-poster bed (plus foldout, foam mattress, and sectional couch if you want to fall asleep by the fire), and much more. The full new kitchen with table and benches is walled off, but not to the ceiling, so you can still have a conversation with someone in the living room while you’re cooking. The new bathroom is small but cute. The 1-room layout means you're always connected, not hiding in separate rooms. The electric heaters were on and the fireplace ready to light when we arrived (though they even offered to have it going before we arrived). This is the original property homestead of seven kids plus parents, and now a wonderful cottage. The owners in the adjacent home gave us all the privacy we wanted but were available and fun to talk to when we had questions. Our dog ran herself ragged with Sunny, the friendly onsite Golden Retriever. This cottage is away from the noise and hustle of downtown and beachfront, but only minutes from either. The owners provided a great list of nearby things to see and do. Highly recommend; would buy it if we could! I traveled up to Whidbey for a retreat and found the Cedar Moon Cottage to be a beautiful oasis to get away from it all. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very spacious and filled with anything a traveler might need. It is surrounded by towering cedar trees and nearby trails. The library and kitchen are amazing! Everything I needed. I felt like the books that I was able to read during my stay were chosen with me in mind. I ordered four of them myself when I got home. About the owner: Our family moved to Whidbey Island to alternatively educate our children at the Waldorf School over 10 years ago, trusting all would be well. My husband and I were professional yoga teachers and our dream was to operate a yoga studio on our own land and to build a homestead. As life often dictates, not all went as planned:) Our oldest son made it clear that Waldorf education was NOT for him, our 'Yoga Sanctuary' turned out to be unsustainable, and my husband is still thinking that maybe homesteading and owning all this land is way too much work! Yet, here we still are...everytime we try to leave the island for a 'vacation' we realize how GOOD we have it at home. This beauty and community is hard to beat; we are so fortunate.
Why the Owner Chose Clinton:
Cedar Moon Cottage has much history (see our website for more background). It was the original homestead house on the property, and housed a family of 8 in the 1930's. For us, it became the 'Yoga Sanctuary' , offering yoga and tai chi classes, spiritually-based workshops by visiting teachers and a space for community talking circles and dances. Today, infused with good-energy, it is a living space for relaxed rejuvenation, simple comfort and an affordable vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Maxwelton Valley is the heart of South Whidbey Island. You are nestled in with the locals here, close enough to Maxwelton Beach or Langley (less than 10 minutes in opposite directions), yet far enough away to feel the real island vibe and be held by its beauty. You will hardly see a soul walking the enchanted Whidbey Institute trails and the further you get down Maxwelton Beach, the more isolated and in tune with nature you become. How about a night walk up Quade road along the creek? We might not be on beach front, but Yes, we have a slice of paradise here.
