My stay at Old Acre was in a word ... perfect. The location was an easy walk to downtown Newport and the wharfs. Airport transportation was simple with the Hotel Viking just a block away. But the best part was the beautiful, historic home itself and the extremely gracious and helpful owners. I was in town for 10 days and 9 nights during a sailing event. Coming back to Old Acre each evening was like walking into my own home with private use of the front entrance. Spending evenings on the front porch to unwind was delightful. The room was spacious and well appointed. This was my first trip to Newport and the owners had provided me with helpful information regarding getting around town and what was happening around Newport. For my next trip to Newport, I would look no further than Old Acre for a place to stay. This top of the hill location was top notch. I fully recommend staying at Old Acre.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Loved having you here for Americas Cup and all the excitement of that fabulous event.

Privacy and convenience characterizes this bedroom/bath suite located on historic Kay Street one block from the Viking Hotel and an easy walk to most Newport attractions. The owners live in a private wing at the back of the Victorian style home and were very helpful in planning my days.. Visitors enjoy the garden views and the feeling of being guests in a fine old home filled with lovely antiques and memories of Newport's golden age. I particularly enjoyed walking through the Kay-Catherine and Historic Hill districts marveling at the diversity of architecture and the rich history of this old city. Good restaurants abound. The beach is within walking distance...about a mile. Gas powered trolleys stop a block away on Bellevue and provide easy acces to the mansion district and shopping. Parking is available right in front of the house on Kay Street. I enjoyed my stay and hope to return again in the near future. Suitable for a single person or couple...no room for an additional person. The bathroom is spacious with a large walk-in closet--shower but no tub. Inquire about air conditioning in July...I didn't miss it in August.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you Peter for your kind review. We look forward to your return to Newport and especially Old Acre. Air conditioning will be available anytime you wish. Eve and Bill

This is the accommodation and location a Newporter chooses when returning from a posting abroad and re-settling. The property is one of architectural significance and is situated perfectly between Broadway restaurants, Bellevue Avenue museums and just a few minutes from the bustling harbour. The property is ultra- private and comfortable. It is scrupulously maintained by its gracious hosts who are true Newporters and know where to go, what to do and what is going on at all times. Within minutes of landing back home, I was in the lovliest part of Newport and re-acquainting myself with its many charms and spots of interest. A wonderful and welcoming experience in my favorite part of Newport.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: We fell in love with Newport and all it had to offer and bought our house in 1993. After a thorough renovation, we moved in with our family of 5 and made 'Old Acre' our home. As of now, winter 2012, we are empty nesters and thought it would be an interesting experience to have visitors stay in our home.
