Our Lake house retreat is on Rice Lake in Walworth County – 6 miles outside of the town of Whitewater in the Southern Kettle Moraine State forest. Rice Lake is approx 150 acres, 10 feet deep, and more than half of the shoreline is uninhabited state forest. Property is located on 75 ft of lake frontage in a protected bay with pier perfect for swimming, fishing, or sunbathing.
Our Home:
Two-level, 2400 square foot home with 4 bedrooms/3 baths, sleeps 10+. Both floors have been completely remodeled and have central air conditioning and heat. 1100+ sq ft wrap around deck surrounding the open floor plan of the kitchen, dining room, and living room provides a beautiful view of the bay.
Upstairs
Kitchen: granite counter tops and island, all new appliances including dishwasher, trash compactor, double oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker. Small appliances include a blender, mixer, griddle, coffee maker, Keurig one-cup coffee maker, toaster, and more. Dining table seats 8 comfortably.
Living room: large flat screen TV with Dish Network and DVD/VHS player. Comfy reclining couch and love seat--perfect for a mid-day vacation nap. Entertainment closet filled with DVDs, VHS tapes, books, and board games.
Master Bedroom: King bed, plenty of dresser and closet space, and attached master bathroom.
Master bathroom: electric steam shower with 2 shower heads and a built-in tile bench for 2-3. Cabinet stocked with towels and a convenient laundry chute to the basement laundry room.
Bedroom #2: King bed, TV with Dish Network and VCR/DVD player, and a large dresser and closet space.
Bedroom #3: Queen pillow-top bed with dresser and closet.
Bathroom #2: Full bathroom with shower/tub stocked with towels and toiletries for your needs.
Downstairs:
Family room: TV with Dish Network and a DVD/VHS player, wood-burning fireplace, sliding glass doors to lakefront, couch with pullout double bed (optional sleeping space), and a very comfortable double high queen air mattress with bedding provided. May bring one additional air mattress to utilize in the basement family room space.
Bathroom #3: huge whirlpool bath tub with jets (seats 2 comfortably) and shower.
Bedroom #4: one full bed and one twin bed with dresser and closet.
Laundry room: washer and dryer with detergent provided, beach towels, extra bath towels, cleaning supplies, and extra paper products.
2nd refrigerator/freezer.
Outside:
Huge wrap-around deck with comfortable deck furniture including swivel chairs and a table for 4, 2 stationary chairs, and a chaise lounge with a side table.
Gas grill with propane and utensils.
17 gently sloping stairs down a winding staircase lead to a lower deck area with a fire pit, chairs, and prongs for cooking over the fire.
20’ x 10’ pier with ladder. Water is approximately 6’ deep at end of pier.
Whitewater is a college town with a branch of the University of Wisconsin. Population is about 15,000. There are plenty of sit-down and fast-food restaurants, bars, small-town and chain stores, and Super Wal-Mart for all your vacation needs.

We stayed at the property last year in September and had a great time. The booking process was very smooth and Joe was great to work with and very helpful. Our group was 10 adults and we were all comfortable; we made full use of the kayaks & canoes, relaxed on the deck in the sunshine and then enjoyed the lakefront fire pit in the evenings after grilling a nice meal. We were surprised by the well-water (very sulfurous) in the bathrooms and kitchen, but it wasn't a showstopper as Joe had already stocked the fridge up with bottle water (we simply replaced what we used). I'd recommend this rental property to others considering it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Our community has well water and sometimes the odor is noticeable, sometimes not. I know it rained a lot before you came and I read online that a heavy rain can trigger the smell. We had a great time here! The house is very clean and inviting and the owner has thought of pretty much everything to make the stay comfortable. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be some sort of motor boat for fishing and/or boat rides. There are plenty of water toys however and a marina close by where we rented a pontoon for the day. Very quiet and peaceful on the lake and there are a lot of nice places to hike (we had our dogs with) at the state park. Also, a very pretty and interesting park not far from the house called Natureland Park. All in all, a great rental! I first must say that I completely enjoyed the whole experience at Rice Lake. From inquiry, booking, to security deposit refund, the owner was great to work with. The house was better than advertised with a wonderfully stocked pantry, plenty of water toys (floating chairs, kayaks, paddle boats), and activities for kids in the garage. We had all the amenities of home away from home. One day we rented a pontoon boat on Whitewater Lake and had a great time fishing and swimming! The owner of this property has thought of everything. The house is beautifully furnished with a wonderful wrap around deck overlooking the quiet bay of the lake. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of the house, the stars, all while sitting around the fire pit the owner has stocked for use. The paddle oat and kayaks provided hours of fun on the lake. Kitchen and grill have all the amenities for a great meal. Definitley would reccomend this property to a vast array of groups. Fantastic stay, clean and well maintained house, with plenty of things to entertain people of all tastes, all of this just a short a little jaunt from Chicago area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We rented the lake house for 5 days and had a wonderful time. The house itself was quite large and modern, and the owner thoughtfully had all of the small touches covered. The house itself is in an amazing location--super quiet lake, located on a dead end street, only mile a way from Kettle Moraine Park and great nearby roads for cycling. Unlike most lake homes, this comes with plenty of boating options included--paddle boat, 2 kayaks and 2 canoes. We will definitely be back next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our recent stay over a long weekend to celebrate our patriarch's 90th birthday was simply perfect! The house is incredibly well maintained and supplied, providing more than any expectations. The yard, decks, dock, lake, and available watercraft (and lifevests, thank you) allowed us all to enjoy the weather and company in so many different ways. The kids (and their parents, too!) loved exploring in the watercraft; parents and grandparents simply loved the deck and reading/carving, etc. on the dock. We think you must have also arranged the excellent weather. Thanks, Joe, for sharing with us! If you are looking for a beautiful home with all the amenities that is surrounded by nature on a peaceful lake, then this is the place for you! We have rented vacation homes all over the world and none were as thoughtfully furnished as this house. Every detail and then some were thought of to make our stay feel as if we were in our own home and the property owners could not have been more accommodating. We visited in July, but it is a place for all seasons and we could imagine the beauty of this home and its surroundings all year around. This was a perfect vacation home to relax and spend time with family. This home is a newly remodeled and very spacious property. We enjoyed our time and the weather was perfect for fishing, boating, and swimming in the lake. The home had all the furnishings and included a paddle boat, canoe, and a couple of kayaks with the rental. The kids all enjoyed the boating and swimming off the dock and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, serene location to relax and spend time with family or friends. Our stay at the house was extremely memorable. This house is a true beauty with tons of activities to do! The weather was awesome and made it a joy for us to go paddle boating, kayaking, and swimming! The house looks like it was recently remodeled, with granite and beautiful showers, bedrooms, and the kitchen. Overall, our stay was so nice and relaxing! We will definitely be coming back next year! Our family get-together was everything we had hoped for when we stayed at this gorgeous, spacious home. Outdoor spaces are serene and perfectly landscaped. Fire pit provided lots of fun evenings on the lake shore,. About the owner: Lynn and I have owned our lake home since 1988. Long ago we used to camp in the Kettle Moraine State Forest and decided that it was such a beautiful and secluded area we had to have a place here that we could call our home away from home. It has been a dream come true (but not without expense) where we have opened nature to our son and daughter whom can someday do the same with their own children. Let us provide you with the ideal lake house for your family and friends to getaway and experience all the area has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Whitewater:
The surrounding area is truly unbelievable and offers serenity and tranquility for a perfect escape from reality. There are countless hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, and boating activities in the summer and snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice-skating, sledding, and skiing activities in the winter. Rice Lake has very little boat traffic, as there are only 40 homes on the lake with few permanent residents. There are no marinas directly on Rice Lake, which limits visitors however; there is a boat ramp located on state park property if you wish to bring your own boat but be sure to obtain proper stickers and licenses. Speedboats and jet skis are welcomed between 9am-5pm with wake-free otherwise. Mornings and evenings are set aside for quiet canoeing or fishing or just sitting outside with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Our property is located in a wake-free bay so peace and quiet can always be enjoyed.
For more action, Whitewater Lake (600+ acres) is right next door with a couple of marinas. There is no navigable access between the 2 lakes, just a spillover.
