Location: Arcata, North Coast, California, USA View Map
Accommodations: Studio, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
This elegant two-story studio is located in a secluded garden with a view of redwood trees and Humboldt Bay, yet it is just a short walk to downtown Arcata. It is light and airy inside, with a peaceful and serene hot tub (no jets,) under the trees outside, a sunny private patio, and an upstairs balcony.
The studio has hardwood floors, Oriental carpets, custom cabinets, and original artwork by nationally known artists. There is a built-in queen-size bed in an alcove downstairs, and the upstairs loft has two twin beds.
Arcata is a small university town located between Humboldt Bay and the Arcata Redwood Forest. The spectacular rocky seacoasts, beaches, and forests of Redwood National Park are just to the north. The beautiful clear rivers of the Six Rivers National Forest are both north and south.
Our studio is five blocks west of Redwood Park, three blocks south of Humboldt State University, and six blocks from the Arcata Plaza.
Redwood forests, concerts, restaurants, and movies are all a pleasant walk away. The university brings major entertainment acts for reasonable prices and no parking problems, from Ray Charles to the Tokyo String Quartet.
Arcata has many community events, from the Oyster Festival, to bird watching gatherings, and a lively Saturday Farmer's Market. The Marsh Ponds are world famous for bird watching, and the Community Forest has miles of wild and remote hiking trails.
We also have a studio, a 2 bedroom Craftsman Home, and a 4 bedroom Victorian available. Contact us for more information.

Casually Elegant and Cozy Home by Redwoods
Year Purchased: 1993
Why the Owner Chose Arcata
Arcata is a lively university town, with Humboldt State bringing through great music and theater shows. There are coffee shops with poetry readings and local music, Brio Bakery with fresh baked goodies on plaza, and it's close to Redwood National Park with beautiful hiking trails through the redwoods. If you take scenic highway 299 east, you can enjoy the sunshine on the Trinity River, and whitewater rafting.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio
This home has beautiful hardwood floors and custom hardwood cabinets. The kitchen is fully stocked for your family to cook good food, with fresh produce from the Farmer's market, or grocery store only 4 blocks away. It's only 7 blocks from the plaza, but is tucked back from the street and feels private and secluded. You can enjoy a hot tub in the back yard, surrounded by flowers.
Owner's Map of Arcata
This tasteful home was designed by Ann, and was her first vacation rental. Over the years she expanded to a home on Maui, and another studio in Arcata.
Her daughters, Elly and Mary, have helped her design, furnish, decorate and manage her vacation homes. When not working on their vacation homes, they enjoy traveling, hiking, backpacking, and rafting.
Sharing their vacation homes has been a rewarding experience, with interesting and lively guests from all over the world.

This review is probably late-coming but I've stayed at the studio twice so far and will be returning again. Its so comfy cozy and now I make sure I plan an extra day while traveling through Humboldt just to stay there. Love waking up, going down to the co-op and picking up some yummy food and coffee and just relaxing, soaking in the tub, or enjoying the gorgeous wisteria from the backyard. I love the bed tucked into the windows (though if you don't like early sunlight, bring some blinders!), The place is clean and comfy as ever and tastefully decorated. The cabinetry in the kitchen is beautiful as well. I can't wait to go back.

My husband and I just spent an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable few days in this lovely studio right in the heart of Arcata. We didn’t move our car once in three days and were able to explore all the areas we wanted to. What a treat to enjoy this unique rental - truly exquisite! The attention to detail is amazing. The interior is tastefully decorated, with incredible design that allows this small home to feel extremely spacious. Every unique attribute was thoughtful and well executed – with not one thing missing – everything we could ever need was right on hand! The landscaping and exterior spaces were also impeccable – it was amazing how secluded it felt even though it was right in the middle of a neighborhood. Waking up to the sun streaming through the many windows was definitely a highlight; along with feeling right at home in this accurately described “Casually Elegant and Cozy Home by Redwoods.” Ann was a pleasure to work with and the property was even better than we expected! We definitely look forward to visiting the area again and staying here.

Last year I had stayed at the "Carriage House" that was so charming and this year I was so disappointed when Ann said it was booked! Well no dissapointment here! Her reccomodation for #4285 was spot on! My sisters and I wanted to move in! The clean, warm, cozy cottage was just what we were looking for. There was EVERYTHING a person could possibly need. We enjoyed hanging out at the cottage as well as walking everywhere we wanted to go. We're comming back soon and working with Ann is a delight! Thanks for providing such a welcoming and wonderful place to call home, even for just a few days.

Ann & Elly, I've really enjoyed my visits to your Arcata studio...it's one of the reasons I enjoy going to Arcata so much! Waking up to the bright interior with its views of the cheerful little garden always seems to get me invigorated for a day of hiking the redwoods. I also like the fact that the studio is centrally located, yet it's really quiet and peaceful

There are so many wonderful things to see and do on the North Coast, but your vacation home is a destination in itself. We found so much to do right there, just hanging out at the house, enjoying the spectacular view and garden. The location was perfect for visiting the University town of Arcata. There is a great selection of restaurants and entertainment. Then it was just a short trip north to explore the beautiful beaches and redwood groves of Redwood National Park. The care you take of your home shows in the attractive décor and spotless cleaning. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Dear Elly, Mary & Ann,We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your very comfortable, well equipped, and beautiful home – it’s the only way to go! We had a very pleasant 5 day vacation – we saw more of the area than our past – so we thank you for allowing us to use it. The folks who rent it for next year’s Humboldt Graduation will be pleased. The weather was gorgeous when we were there in May. If we’re ever heading up to Arcata we will certainly book another week!

Ann,Thank you. For the Daphne bushes, the hot tub, the fresh flowers indoors, the comfy window bed (many of which have inspired ideas for our own addition.) Above all, thank you for sharing the peaceful environment you’ve created here.
