Keywords: House
Enjoy the beautiful Berkshires in this ideally located three bedroom farm house built in 1880 by the Darling Family. This house sits on the edge of the picturesque Williams College campus, tucked away in a breathtaking valley in the Berkshire Mountains. It is only a few minutes walk to the center of campus, the center of town, or the entrance of Hopkins Forest. The home is situated on a large lot with nearly an acre of fenced-in backyard. The back of the property is bordered by Hemlock Brook.
The first floor includes a large family room/dining room (12 by 25 foot), featuring wide pine flooring, and is quaintly furnished. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped, including a dishwasher, stove, refrigerator and microwave. A laundry room off the kitchen with a washer and dryer is provided for our guests’ convenience. A sunroom is situated in the rear of the first floor with wonderful views of the backyard, extending down to the brook. Also on the first floor, there is a bathroom with full shower and bath.
There are three bedrooms on the second floor. One bedroom has a king bed, another has a queen bed, and a third room has a pullout couch which may serve as a second game room by day and a bedroom by night.
The house has loads of amenities. These include two TVs, a VCR and DVD Player, and a video library. There are bicycles for exploring the abundant natural scenic wonders of Williamstown and beyond. There are several games and puzzles for both young and old. Available outdoor activities include volleyball and badminton. There is a picnic table and charcoal grill for your convenience.
It is said that in the Berkshires "Nature sets the scene and culture steals the show." Nowhere is this truer than in Williamstown. This idyllic setting boasts wonderful mountain views, including Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts, (3491 feet). Mountain lakes and streams abound, for fishing, swimming and exploring. The Appalachian Trail and other alternative hiking opportunities are nearby. Hopkins Memorial Forest, a 2500 acre preserve, with hiking trails, Buxton Garden, and The Moon Barn, is 0.8 miles from the house.
The picturesque beauty in and around Williamstown provides four seasons of scenic wonder. In addition to the fall leaf-peeking, this area serves as a stellar backdrop for golfing and skiing. The Taconic Golf Club (semi-private) and Waubeeka Golf Links are nearby. Several options exist for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing can be enjoyed at nearby Jiminy Peak. Several antique stores, shops, and superlative restaurants are in the area.
Williamstown is the home of Williams College, one of the preeminent educational institutions in the country. Thus, the area bustles with cultural activity. The College offers a host of cultural activities throughout the year. The nearby Clark Art Institute boasts an outstanding collection of European and American art. Located a few miles away, in North Adams, is the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASSMoCA), home to avant-garde and provocative art, theatre, and dance. Just a few minutes walk from the house is the famous Williamstown Theatre, home to the prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival. The Tony award winning WTF has been in existence for fifty years, presenting over 200 performances each summer, featuring the finest actors in America. Approximately 30 minutes away in Lenox, Massachusetts is Tanglewood. This spectacular outdoor theatre plays host to well known classic, popular, and jazz concerts each June through Labor Day and is the summer home of The Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Based in Williamstown, the Darling House is an ideal comfortable location, from which one can explore the Berkshires, visit with friends, explore Williams College, or immerse oneself in scenic beauty and cultural activity.

Enjoyed our daughter's graduation from Williams College. Made especially easy and relaxing by being within walking distance of the commencement. The house was perfect, with enough sleeping for all and a kitchen fully outfitted. Thanks much Margaret & Bill

My friends and I had a great time at the darling house over Thanksgiving.Although some of my friends found the house to be hounted (lol) I slept soundly every night.I loved the big backyard and the bikes available too. This house was the most equipped both in Kitchen and bathroom.I don't think you can consider the room with the futon a bedroom. It's too small and anybody who dares sleep on that futon will wake up very achy all over...Also,the stairs are very slippery.we had 2 adults,2 children and a dog fall down it.

We had a wonderful week at the Darling House. The layout was perfect for our two families with small children and had every amenity including lots of books and videos for everyone. We went in February and the house was always warm and cozy and the backyard was perfect for our 7 year olds to sled. The house was also very clean, beds were comfortable, and there was more than enough of everything (including towels, bowls/plates/flatware) so that we felt very much at home from the first day.
Owner response:We try hard to make our homes family friendly and to make sure you have a memorable getaway! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

My family and I recently stayed at this property after researching many homes and we definitely were not disappointed! The house was perfect for get-togethers as it has an open layout throughout the dining room and living room. Everything was clean and well maintained. I was initially worried about heating issues that were reviewed poorly by another renter however we had absolutely no problems with heat on any floor of the home. The weather was quite cold a few days however we stayed warm inside both day and night. The only recommendation is to bring a safety gate for the stairs if you have small children. We plan to return to this home each year that we visit the Berkshires!

Thank you! Your house in Williamstown worked out perfectly. Great location. I was able to walk to the Clark and to and from the theatre. The weather cooperated fairly well. Only a couple of activities were rained out. And soccer camp was a hit!
