With one bedroom plus a sleeping loft and one bathroom, this cabin offers an unparalleled view of the Rainbow River which can be enjoyed from the hammock, the hot tub, the outdoor dining area or the patio area. This family-friendly rental sits at about the midpoint of the river and is bordered by the Florida State Greenway. The cabin is ideal for the nature lover. Spring brings the blue herons to nest in the cypress in front of the house. You can see the different creatures as the day progresses: ducks in the early morning, blue heron fishing at mid-day, the hummingbird and otters in the evening, and the owl at dusk. Nature provides an ever evolving show right from the comfort of the deck. Activities include swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, and everyone’s favorite: tubing down the river. The spring water is 73 degrees year round so if that's not to your liking you can enjoy the screen enclosed hot tub overlooking the river. The cabin has one bedroom and a sleeping loft and is suitable for up to four. Families of more than four are discouraged but may be considered on a case by case basis for an additional charge. Come enjoy the natural beauty of this gem the locals affectionately call the' Blue Run.'

About: I am about as close to Tom Sawyer as you will find. I grew up running around in the woods along the Rainbow River shirtless and barefoot. We would fish off of anything that would float and we had no qualms about sneaking out and bass fishing off of someone's dock when they left for the supermarket. My first home as an adult was an old cracker style house downstream on the Blue Run. (It was not much of a house). That house is still standing and will for a long time because it stayed in the family and now belongs to one of my closest friends. If you float down you can see the place on the east bank. You can recognize it on weekends because it is the only place with plastic lawn furniture set up out in the river. Give them a shout on the way by. They are fine southern folks. We all remember the river the way it was before it was discovered, but that was a long time ago and we can't undiscover it, so we welcome our visitors. I'm glad I got to see it then in its more natural state. I hope my visitors enjoy the river as much as I have. -Dwight
Why Dunnellon: I had no intention of buying a riverfront home when I went to look at he Blue Run Cabin. It was out of curiosity that I went to look more than anything else. I was puzzled when I saw a high end home on the foreclosure list on that street. As part of my business I had mowed on that street for many years. I knew the area well and the street had no high end homes. That is unless they were past the dead end sign that I had driven by every week for years. The next time I went to mow I parked at the dead end sign and walked down to take a look. The rest is history. When I walked by the big oak by the front door I got the first impression that everyone else does when they see the view for the first time. I knew within a matter of seconds that I would buy the place and I somehow made it happen. I have done extensive maintenance since then and I have made every effort to keep things as authentic as possible. Part of the charm of the cabin is the "make it up as you go along" design and I have not altered it any more than necessary. When replacing the siding on the upstairs I discovered that the side of the house had once been riddled with birdshot. I have no idea why and I may never know the story behind it but it only seemed natural to put back the bullet riddled aluminum when I put things back together. My desire to preserve the cabin extends way beyond the siding and includes the structure itself. People with more resources than myself sought to bulldoze it. In the end, I won and the Blue Run cabin is still standing. I hope knowing this story will help you appreciate it more. I'd be happy to tell you more about it if you ask.
