If you are looking for a great family house close to everything, with an ultra-modern kitchen that can serve a crowd, separate living rooms for some peace but lots of room for group time, with a huge deck with an 8 person Hot Tub, offered by owners who are experienced in hosting more than 500 vacation rental guests, then LOOK NO FURTHER ~ YOU'VE FOUND THE RIGHT TAHOE CABIN!
This spacious and well appointed redwood home is a perfect rental for a family vacation. Located 1/4 mile from pristine Lake Tahoe near Carnelian Bay, our home is ideally situated to take maximal advantage of all that the Tahoe Basin has to offer. The home is available on a nightly, weekend and weekly basis.
Located on Tahoe's north shore in prestigious Agate Bay, you will have excellent access to the north shore beaches and all major ski areas in the North Tahoe/Truckee area. (4 beaches are within 1/4 - 2 miles. Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak and Homewood Ski Resorts are all less than 15 miles. South Lake Tahoe / Stateline is 30 miles away.)
This is the ideal home for one or more families. There are two living rooms with fire places, a huge outdoor deck, as well as a 750 square foot living/bonus room complete with wet bar, wood stove, full bath, TV, air hockey, and sleeper sofa. This room makes a romantic and private master suite also. We have hosted many family reunions here, and have really appreciated this floor plan which allows all of us to be together, while still having four separate "living areas" where adults and kids can do their own thing, giving everyone a place to have ample peace and quiet when needed! (Lots of kids and teens in our families, so you might know what we mean!)
Agate Bay is a highly desired residential area that has retained the beauty and serenity of the Tahoe basin. There are lots of open spaces in this neighborhood that boasts nice homes on large forested lots. We are located 6 miles east of Tahoe City and 2 miles west of Kings Beach near Carnelian Bay. North Lake Tahoe has minimal traffic, with none of the crowds, congestion, and commercialism of the south shore. (There is not a single traffic signal for an 8 mile stretch of the North Shore, where this home is located!) Our family has had other homes in Agate Bay for almost 40 years...this is without a doubt one of the best locations in the Tahoe basin!
The neighborhood is quiet, very friendly and great for walking. Our home is only 1 block from National Forest Land, where you will find a wonderful walking or biking trail through the woods to Patton Beach on Carnelian Bay (where dogs are welcome!). Or one can hike or mountain bike uphill through the forest to Brockway Summit for panoramic lake views and access to a maze of Forest Service roads! In the winter, cross country or forest road snowshoeing and skiing is right outside your door.
Furnished with many antiques, this spacious home has 3 bedrooms upstairs. The private master bedroom overlooks the trees, and has a large walk-in closet and bath, a VERY comfortable king sized bed with down pillows and comforter. The master bedroom is private, sharing no common walls with the other rooms.
The second bedroom is furnished in a mountain cabin decor with a VERY comfortable queen sized bed, down pillows and comforter. The third bedroom upstairs has a twin "trundle" bed, which can be made up as a king bed or two twin beds.
A complete kitchen remodel was completed in December 2007. You'll find top end appliance, including a double oven, warming drawer and a 5 burner gas cooktop. The kitchen is very well equipped with high quality cookware, utensils and serving dishes. There are place settings for 12 or more. The huge 12 X 50 foot redwood deck sits within the trees, and receives full sun in the mornings throughout the year. This is a HEAVENLY place to bask in the morning sun with coffee and a good book or conversation. After noon, when the Tahoe summer sun can be intense, the deck is mostly shaded by our 80 foot pine trees. Deck furnishings include a glass table for 6 with a large umbrella, and lounge chairs.
The home is designed with large windows or sliders in all rooms, where you always feel the presence of the mountain light and air. Our 54 inch oak table with 3 leaves will seat 12 for dining in the main living/dining room. Sofa sleepers are placed in the bonus room described above, and in one of the living rooms. A bath complete with a stall shower is located on the ground floor, with the other 3 full bathrooms up stairs.
The home also has a small garage, where bikes or other recreational stuff can be safely stored. There is ample parking in the driveway for cars and a boat. There are 3 boat launching ramps within a 6 mile drive of Agate Bay. Peter's parents have a home two doors away that is often available for vacation rentals as well. Please inquiry if you are interested to two fine vacation homes close to each other!

Why the Owner Chose Agate Bay
Our family has had a home in Agate Bay for 40 years. Peter's brother also owns a home in Agate Bay. The two brothers "came of age" during summers in Agate Bay. All 11 grandchildren of Peter's parents have their earliest memories being in Tahoe. There could be no other place for us to be!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Peace. Quiet. Serenity. Being within the forest. Stars at night that children living in the city or burbs never knew existed. The purest water you could ever swim in. One of the most beautiful places in the world, any time of the year.
This is our favorite beach along the North Shore. You can walk from the Redwood House through the forest (or drive the lakeshore road) to this public beach with bathroom facilities.
This Forest Service road starts one block uphill from the Redwood House. It takes you up to Brockway Summit (Hwy 267) and to a huge network of roads for mountain biking, hiking or cross country skiin
There are 3 modern, smaller casinos here at State Line, about 10 minutes from the Redwood House. A very friendly poker room is at the Crystal Bay Club, which also has concerts through out the summer

This is Peter and Darla, owners and hosts of the Redwood House in Agate Bay. Our full time residence is in Auburn, CA. Peter's parents build a cabin in Agate Bay in 1970, and he's been coming to Agate Bay now for 40 years. We purchased the Redwood House in 2001, and over the years have been systematically remodeling the home.
We are very experienced and professional in our offerings of top notch vacation rental homes. We own and personally manage four homes in Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, in additon to the Redwood House.
We are both physicians, in private specialty practices in Roseville, Folsom and Yuba City. We're active gardeners and travelers. Between us we have four 20-something children, making their way in the world as a fine arts painter, film maker, fashion designer and early childhood educator.
Our extended family honors Tahoe as the place we converge at least yearly, and Agate Bay has been one the pillars of love in our big family. Our relationship with Tahoe and this home is evident when you stay with us!

Stayed here the first weekend of October for my 30th birthday and it was a blast. We had a pretty big group and the house had plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen had everything thing we needed. Beds were comfortable. The hot tub was great, especially after several games of volleyball at Kings Beach, which was just short drive away (there is a court in the community, but is was closed). The owners are really helpful and very easy to work with. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

We just concluded a family ski trip to Tahoe at the Agate Bay home. It was perfect for what we needed. We had a large group with different age levels from 2 to 65, and everyone had something to do. It was located in perfect position so that we could drive to several different ski resorts including Diamond Peak, Homewood, and NorthStar and all were only a short drive (i recommend Diamond Peak). The home has a separate loft/game room with bunk beds that came in very handy for the kids, they were able to go up there and play or watch TV and the rest of us could stay downstairs and talk or watch TV of our own. There was plenty of table space and tableware to accommodate large groups. The owners were very nice and gave us very detailed instructions about the house, and when I contacted them they were very nice about telling me where we could find good snow parks for the kids and where we could park The neighborhood backs up to a national park so all we had to do was walk 2 blocks up the street and we got to play in some fresh snow in a wide open area. Overall a very good place and I would recommend it.

We had a fantastic time at Peter and Darla's home. It is very spacious with tons of places to sleep. My group had 17 people fit comfortably in the home. It is clean, very well furnished and cozy. They have a beautiful deck, large fridge and plenty of parking space. This will be my first choice for a rental home on the north lake when i have a large enough group. Peter and Darla were very nice and pleasant to work with. Nothing but a positive experience this weekend.

PETER AND DARLA, are the best, they worked with us to be able to rent their beautiful home. We cant express how much our family of 4 boys ,1 girl and girl&boy friends enjoyed the time we spent here. Its a fanastic home set up for teens and adults. The snow was magnificant. Many great memories were had and captured at this lovely home. I would suggest anyone with a big family stay here. i think we had the tv on once for football otherwise games,snowball fights, socializing and eating was a major part. It was awesome.. thanks again Peter and Darla.. love you guys

We celebrated my husband, George's, 60th birthday with family at this lovely redwood home. There were lots of extras, including a fully stocked and modern kitchen. The home is close to the lake and several excellent restaurants. The owners are wonderful to work with and make sure that your stay is pleasant. We hope to stay at their Hawaii home one of these days!

We enjoyed our stay at the house greatly. We drove from San Diego with 5 pre-teens so the extra room over the garage was great for us. It was a place the kids could be and we wouldn't hear them. The house had a warm atmosphere with plenty of sun on the deck. The kitchen was very well equipped and the two dining room tables on either side of the kitchen worked out well. The house has trails in the forest just up the street and they were very nice to have nearby. We hope to rent the house again and would like to see how it is during the winter. Richard

My family had a wonderful time at the Redwood House! We were a group of Grand Parents, children and grandchildre. Ad said in the website the house has many areas that you can split up into for smaller gatherings. The location is great and the area is safe and restful. I will stay there again if in the area. Also, the owners are wonderful to work with, directions to the house and how to run things at the house are also excellent. Games galore too!

What a wondeful house. This is the ideal home for a big family group, there were 10 of us with 6 teenagers, the loft room was an ideal solution with the gaming area. The location is great, ckose to the lake and all the ski areas, and Peter was great to work with, helpful and promt. We'd definitely rent this home again, thank you!
