  • Second visit was as wonderful as the first

"Beautifully restored, historic house makes you feel a real part of this charming, low-key, friendly town. The proximity to Schoodic Point for biking, birding, photography, and ocean watching is wonderful. We didn't even go to Acadia on MDI this year - Schoodic has what we value most (beauty, outdoor activities) without the crowds."

  • All the comforts of home.

"Loved it here. Right in the center of town. Easy access to everything and being able to wash my clothes and relax as needed. Perfection."

  • Secluded Paradise

"We visited Maine last year for the first time and loved it so much, we had to include it in our travel plans again this year. We decided to stay a little longer and bring our dog this time, and found this lovely gem in Orrington just south of Bangor. We were planning on using this as a home base from which to make day trips all over Maine, but we loved it so much, we only left once to go visit friends we made last year and twice to pick up groceries. On our last night here, we realized we hadn't been out to eat in the area, so we made a trip out for local fare. We also felt obligated...since we were there....to drive around Bangor and see what it was all about. That's a round-about way of saying we were so comfortable and satisfied with the house and its location along the river, that we never really got the itch to leave! Sue and Joe have thought of everything starting with all the fixings for pancakes our first morning there....which we managed to stretch out for our first three mornings! The house is completely round! It's really a ranch with a walk-out lower level. Kitchen, living, dining, and half bath upstairs and a wall of windows you wouldn't believe offering a panoramic view of the Penobscot River! We were mesmerized for hours. The lower level has THREE bedrooms (we only needed the one since it was just the two of us and our little dog) and two full baths AND a laundry room. There are a couple of seating areas up in the yard to watch the River tides roll in and out....or the bald eagles soar by or catch a fish! We got in the habit of sitting on the floating dock with our feet in the water at high tide. You can swim in the river or take out one of their kayaks available for use too. Sue and Joe were very accommodating and informative hosts. They have thought of everything. The kitchen is fully equipped, there are supplies for dogs and children. Soap, cleaning, and laundry supplies too. It has quality furniture and is beautifully and lovingly decorated. We felt right at home."

  • Great Getaway Home

"I stayed here with my wife and another couple during September of 2014. We loved how secluded the home was, the beautiful view off the back porch, and the open layout of the house. It was very clean and the large television in the living room was a wonderful addition as we were able to watch movies in the evening. We loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom as it made getting ready in the mornings much easier. We saw a fox walking around in the backyard on our first morning and enjoyed the wildlife that flourishes in the woods around the home. Just a couple of negatives: the internet wifi is over cellular, so we were really limited in how much we could download (we would have been charged extra for anything over 2 GB of data). I understand the limitations of high speed internet in seclusion, but we were disappointed because we had planned on streaming Netflix in the evenings. Not a huge deal, though. Finally, the downstairs doesn't appear to be heated. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, but we certainly couldn't find a way to heat it. This is problematic if you want to use the other queen bed in the house and the weather is chilly (as it was on our visit). We made due with the one queen and one double bed, but it would have been nice to be able to use the two queens. Overall we had a lovely experience and I would highly recommend this property with the two caveats listed above. It's a beautiful and relaxing place to stay."
