  • Simple pleasures

"We love it!!! From the beginning the owners (Christian) was in good contact. He was polite and sent over information as needed and required. From the outside the home is simple but the inside is just what we loved. There is nothing extravagant about the home but the layout is made for vacationers and the space is absolutely plenty. The option to watch the game in one living room and play games in another is absolutely A plus! 14 ladies went and we had a fantastic time. The home is more than enough for such a large group. The seclusion is just enough for the laughter and loud outburst which came out of playing taboo; yet close enough to not feel alone!!! The cool thing about the house is that many basic necessities were included. Such as dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, toilet paper. Even though we brought some it was nice to have that available. There were minor issues which are repairable things but they in no way hindered our vacation. Things such as slow bathroom drains. Actually that was it!!! The steep driveway was a bit scary to myself and some but we made it work. Thank you Christian and the other owners for allow us to stay. The best part was the rate! I absolutely recommend this home."

  • Perfect Wedding Weekend!

"We recently had the good fortune of spending the week at Marksville Manor. Joanie and Arthur are both amazing. I mainly worked with Joanie prior to our arrival and she was always so friendly and kind. It felt as if I were making plans with an old friend. When we pulled into the driveway I thought the place could not have been more perfect for the small family wedding we were going to have the following day. The outside of the house was impeccable. The yard was freshly mowed and the flowers looked gorgeous. We couldn't wait to unload and start getting everything set up. We first entered the house through the side door which led into the mudroom and kitchen. It took my breath away. The pictures do not do this house justice. The house has an amazing layout and you can truly tell that Arthur and Joanie put their hearts and souls into this place. After walking into the kitchen we noticed a freshly made cake with a heartfelt note from Joanie. The cake was wonderful and you could tell it was made with love. There was also a lovely gift basket on the table that was perfect for our needs while at the house. Later that day we got to meet Arthur. He was unloading some firewood for us and while talking to him he mentioned they had an arbor we could use for the wedding. It was the perfect finishing touch that we had needed for our big day. Everyone had a great time while we were there. They all talked about how perfect the house was and how beautiful it was. They also wanted to know how we found this wonderful gem. We are hoping to be able to make this a regular family vacation. It was the perfect weekend in the perfect place. Thank you Joanie and Arthur for sharing your beautiful home. We also want to say thanks for the part you played in our wedding going so well. We wish you both the best of luck."

  • Nice little weekend away

"The schoolhouse is a nice little home in the middle of the country, but a short (10 minute) drive to the closest town. We enjoyed our time at the schoolhouse, but were on the go most of the time we were in town. We spent most of our time in Natural Bridge enjoying the Safari Park, Zoo and Natural Bridge itself. It appears that a black widow has taken residence in the window outside the AC unit in the living room, so please be careful when you remove. I forgot to leave a note when we left on the counter about this. I will say I am not positive, but I believe there might be a spirit/ghost in the house. The first night, I thought my 16 yrd old daughter walk by the room as I saw a young girl throught the door jam go by, but come to find out she was in the living room still watching tv. The owners were great and answered any questions I had beforehand and were flexible with us arriving early. Thank you!"

  • Well priced House

"I stayed here with my two sons over Spring Break. We explored the Massanutten area, JMU, Staunton and Luray using this home as our base. It is a great location for doing a variety of things in the Shenandoah Valley area. The driveway is very steep. I mean VERY steep, so be prepared for that. I was able to navigate it fine with my van though and soon got more comfortable with it. Roomy house with plenty of room for all of us to spread out. We enjoyed watching a DVD each night. The kitchen was very well stocked for me prepare multiple meals each day. Recommendations- the house seemed to stay quite warm, especially the upstairs. I really had to run the AC to cool the upstairs bedrooms down. I was surprised by this because it was not hot outside. Also, the family room needs more lighting. One lamp is not adequate for the space. Maybe add another? Finally, the outside lights (deck, door) were not functional and replacing a light bulb didn't fix it. You might want look into that. We enjoyed this property and would absolutely stay here again. Recommended. Oh, final note- I'm not sure how walkable this property is- it was set back which is great but otherwise off a pretty busy road in the area with no sidewalks."
