This is a great apartment in an ideal location, but for our particular needs, there were some significant challenges during our three night stay.
This apartment would be great for a couple or family with two small kids. However, we were traveling as a party of six, including two teenagers and an elderly grandmother. We do not recommend staying here as a party of six or with elderly travelers in the group.
The Shepherd Market location is ideal for accessing transportation and provides a charming setting with several pubs, restaurants and markets in the immediate vicinity.
The flat itself was very clean and comfortable, although not as well stocked as most of the properties we’ve rented in the past. For example, the kitchen had a few pieces of silverware, but not enough for the six of us. We also had to go shopping for toilet paper and paper towels.
As Americans traveling to the UK for the first time, the “first floor” location sounded like a good fit for Grandma, who does not do stairs well. Unfortunately for us, the bottom floor of the two-and-half-floor unit is up two flights of stairs and the lone bathroom is on the top floor, inside the large master bedroom. The very small second bedroom is a half-floor below the main floor that features the sizable living room and ample kitchen. The living room features a couch (no bed) that serves as bedding for the 5th and 6th guests.
Keys were made available in a lock box and the unit was very accessible notwithstanding the stairs. If you need to stow luggage before or after your stay, one of the convenience shops on the cul de sac below will store your bags for a small fee.
While the multi-floor layout and single bathroom made our stay challenging, we would definitely come back if it’s just the two of us next time. A couple or small family would enjoy staying in this apartment,
The location, in a good neighborhood, mere steps from dining and just a few blocks away from Green Park Station, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace is excellent.
