About Dennis Sheffield
My name is Dennis Sheffield. (2nd from the left between Earnest T. Bass and Barn). I have lived in Nashville since 1991 but am originally from Marianna Florida, a small town in the panhandle about 50 miles north of the Gulf Coast. (Florida State Seminole Country - 1981 Alum) I own a promotional products and T-Shirt business, and am one of the top Traeger Wood Fired Grill Dealers in the South. I know how to sing a good song and can tell funny jokes. I'm single and in search of a wealthy 90 something (female) to marry with a really bad cough.
Dennis Sheffield purchased this Cabin in 1997
Why Dennis Sheffield chose Oneida
After living on the North Florida Gulf Coast and observing what made vacation rentals succeed, I spent years looking for a new development in the Tennessee mountains. I wanted undiscovered country since Gatlinburg reminded me too much of Panama City Beach. Sharing space, restaurants and Highways with millions of tourists was not my idea of relaxing. While driving in North East Tennessee one weekend I happened onto the Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area after being lost. This was the beautiful secluded river with high bluffs, incredible natural settings (but no tourists) I had dreamed about. Bought the land, created a large pond between the ridges and built a fantastic log home. The legendary singer/song writer, Tom T. Hall, liked it so much he said I could name it after him if he and Dixie could stay and write songs from time to time. Great folks - very generous arrangement.
What makes this Cabin unique
This is the most relaxing place you could ever imagine. I tell people there's nothing to do but ya don't have enough time to do it all. I usually never leave the cabin for days at a time after hiking, swimming, fishing, love cooking in that incredible well stocked kitchen, grilling and smoking on the Traeger Wood Pellet Grill, reading, and playing music. There is a great Yamaha upright piano that fills the home with harmonics. Sitting in the hot tub gazing at night skies that are like nothing I've ever seen in the south. You can pick out satellites and shooting stars streaming across the heavens. Rocking outside on the covered porches or out on the dock reading while enjoying the north western breezes enjoying the quite solitude makes for the perfect get a way from it all vacation I've ever experienced. It's a hard place to leave once you've unwound. I also wanted to provide a place that families would enjoy for gatherings and vacations. Kids really love the pond and hiking into the Big South Fork Park, horseback trail riding and the train to the old mining camp in Stearns KY are highlights for guests. And of course the Big South Fork River for rafting and white water canoeing is spectacular. There are beautiful hiking trails along the river to Angle Falls and other points that are considered the best trails in the country.

Always the perfect getaway for our big family
This was our 2nd trip out to Tom T Hall, we love this location, the cabin and the owner! Our family is so spread out, to get us all together at the same time is precious time indeed. We treasure the memories made here. The owner, Dennis, is easy to work with and personable. He has everything organized and laid out ready for you so you don't have to worry about anything. All down to the smallest of details, this cabin is a gem!
Thank you, LeAnne for your kind words and the wonderful flower arrangement you left. Look forward to having you all back.
Clean, well-stocked, and peaceful!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The surroundings are so peaceful and quiet. The cabin was very clean and stocked with anything you could possibly need. Dennis is very kind and helpful. Definitely will be back!
A Place For Solitude and Rejuvenation
This forest cabin is located in a low density private community. Its' Timber Frame structure with rough hewn logs is a complement to its' woodland setting. The highlight of the cabin for us was its' wraparound porch inviting us to unwind in its' rocking chairs and reminisce on its' porch swing. We enjoyed watching the sunrise over the private pond while sipping coffee in the morning as well as watching the last reflections of the forest on the pond in the evenings. The quiet enjoyment provided by the natural environment of this rustic woodland cabin made the perfect gathering place for our family. We all plan to come back again.
Thanks so much Jennie!
