HARO HAIKU is located on the West side of beautiful San Juan Island.

The house is nestled just below the ridge line - with 180 degree views of the Olympic mountains, the Strait of Juan de Fuca beyond, and Haro Straits immediately below. Approaching the house, you pass by our Japanese-inspired garden with a 62 year old Bonsai black pine center piece.

BE SURE TO VIEW THE PHOTOS OF THE NEW, COMPLETELY REMODELED KITCHEN AND MASTER BATH !!

Inside Haro Haiku you'll find a contemporary blend of eastern and western style and decor with a decidedly Asian attitude. The interior lets the outside in through an ingenious use of sky lights and widow placements in the exterior and interior walls.

The views are spectacular!!

From South Vancouver island, across the straits to the Olympic Mountains, Pt Townsend, Mt Rainier, and Whidbey Island it never fails to inspire and delight. Sunrises, sunsets, ship and boat traffic, the lights of Victoria, and the Olympic Peninsula, clear starry nights, cloud formations, combined with the sound of Orca whales and surf below. Truly awesome!!!

Serenity and repose on San Juan Island

About Stephanie

We have lived on San Juan Island for 26 years. We owned and operated Lakedale Resort for 18 of those. We are very knowledgeable about what to do, where to eat, and out of the way places to hike, beach or..? We can help you with reservations for activities, dining or self guided tours of the islands. Always available and close by for any assistance necessary.

Stephanie purchased this house in 2005

Why Stephanie chose San Juan Island

The location of Haro Haiku is the main reason we chose to purchase it; Located on the WEST SIDE of San Juan Island with its spectacular vistas of Haro Straits, the Olympic Mountains, easy access to Lime Kiln State Park (Whale Watch Park), Serenity of the neighborhood (None to close, but not to far), and convenient to Friday Harbor.

Property is 3 acres with lots of privacy and views.

"Hello,

I haven't had a chance to write you until now, but i just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your lovely home. It was beyond all our expectations and we couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was. (both the house and the location) our stay was glorious and much (or most) of that can be attributed to the haro haiku house. Thank you for your contribution to a wonderful weekend!

-Holly S.

p.s. i saw orcas from your deck!!

p.p.s. tom (my husband) requests that you contact us should you ever want to sell your home!"

Wonderful Home and great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week on San Juan Island and we could not have found a better place. What a comfortable and relaxing home. Loved the master bath and the very well equipped kitchen. The deck is great for enjoying the spectacular views. We saw bald eagles, deer and orcas right from the deck. Stephanie and Jack are wonderful hosts.

quietly spectacular

A wonderful four days in a tasteful asian accented home with what must be one of the very best unobstructed views in the San Juan Islands.

Stephanie was a warm yet un-intrusive host.

Many thanks

The perfect place to stay on San Juan Islands

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé's parents from Texas were in town and we wanted to take them to enjoy some vacation time on Friday Harbor. We found Haru Haiku and immediately knew it was the perfect place.

The Host:

Stephanie is amazing and super responsive. She had everything you needed to know to enjoy your stay already laid out. If you had a question she relied immediately via email.

The Property:

Amazing, I would say it has the best views on the island. Also the state park is only a few minutes away. The interior is comparable to a 5 star hotel. You will find yourself enjoying a nice coffee and relaxing on the beautiful wood deck.

I cannot recommend this place enough and will be back for the Summer!

Ahhhhh

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at Haro Haiku. So basically that should be sufficient enough a recommendation. The house is amazing and comfortable. The owners constantly upgrade furnishings and recently remodeled the kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen is fit for a gourmet cook and is open and inviting and well stocked with cookware, utensils, basics and dishes. The view of the sound is spectacular and the entire west side of the house are Windows framing the view. The house sits high on the hill looking down and across to Canada. We saw all three orca pods almost daily. Other wildlife included the resident deer and foxes. Stephanie and Jack are lovely to work with and fantastic property owners. Truly, I hesitate to leave such a glowing review because it makes it more difficult to book our favorite place on San Juan Island. Here's to you Steph and Jack. Thanks for being so great and caring.

Magical!

  • 5 of 5

After 18 years together we finally tied the knot, and we chose the Haro Haiku for our honeymoon getaway. We could not have been more pleased and feel that 5 stars may not be quite enough to express how much we loved this property! After a year of planning and executing a large and elaborate wedding we needed to recharge our batteries and recenter ourselves. This location was exactly what we needed!

The home is beautiful and peaceful and the location is magical. After a meandering drive off the main coastal road you reach the driveway that winds down to the house which is tucked away from the world in the heart of the west coast of the island. We spent our mornings sipping coffee listening to and watching the birds, and then twice we were able to listen to and watch the whales from the deck for hours at a time. Yep, just sitting in comfy chairs in our PJs watching whales in their natural habitat without disturbing or disrupting them. We were also able to watch whales at the Wildlife Preserve just up the coast.

We ate breakfast at the table on the deck, and had glorious seafood feasts at the bar in the kitchen. We spent the majority of our days beach combing, visiting lighthouses, watching wildlife around the island and going on excursions. We gratefully returned to the Haro Haiku each night feeling lucky to have such a beautiful place to call home during our visit. In the evenings we played games found in the entry closet at the dining room table with a view of the night time ocean, and woke up each morning to the peaceful view of the Olympic mountains and Haro straight. The beds are fantastic, and I may be buying a new mattress after sleeping on the Tuft & Needle in the master bedroom!

Before making the reservation I had hesitations about the property owner being on site, but it was a complete non-issue. I met Stephanie one morning at her residence and she was delightful. She and her husband are nearby if you need them, but while at the property you do not feel as though you are being supervised in any way.

I can not wait to return to this property to enjoy the island again with my family. My husband wrote a haiku in honor of our stay...

Simply beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at HARO HAIKU for 7 nights... my only complaint is that I wish we could have stayed longer. The home is absolutely wonderful! I always get a bit nervous when a VRBO property has a perfect 5 star score with not even a negative comment. After our stay I have to agree with all of the other reviewers. Not only do I give 5 stars to the house, but 5 stars for the view, 5 stars for the location and 5 stars to San Juan Island! Stephanie and Jack are superb hosts, their years of experience in the hospitality industry shine. Final note: Almost daily we saw Orcas from the deck. One day we even saw a couple of Humpback Whales swim by. For up close views from shore be sure to drive to Lime Kiln park or the pull offs along the way.
