Beautiful, but not functional

  • 2 of 5

This home is absolutely beautiful and well-maintained. However, it should not be considered handicap accessible or convenient for older individuals. There is no handicap access to the home (even two steps from garage into the house were difficult without a rail). While the master bedroom and bath with walk-in shower are on the main floor, the bed is too high for an older individual and the toilet too low. There are no bars in any of the bathrooms, not even towel racks. There was no chair in the master bedroom and we moved one from the living room so my mom could dress herself without assistance. The hot tub was not working properly, and the pool was dirty and cold. There is no separate heat/AC for the upstairs so that while the downstairs was cool, upstairs was uncomfortable for sleeping. As stated, the home is beautiful, especially the kitchen area, but a bit impractical.

Owner's Response: Hi Linda, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. While not handicap accessible by the legal ADA definition, the property has never been a problem for our older senior guests. Had you required special needs, and had shared those needs in advance, we would have made every effort to accommodate those needs. We will look into installing ADA shower bars right away. Certainly an extra chair in the bedroom would have been easily provided had we known the need. The bed height in the master although not above what is considered normal, is extra plush as a result of having a $1,200 custom mattress made for our guests comfort. Bathroom towel bars were replaced with shelves because in our experience, they hold up better. We always provide extra towels on those shelves. The hot tub was working correctly until someone in your group began pushing buttons without reviewing the instructions first. And when asked, we provided your gentlemen co-guest with hands on instructions in addition to the instructions that were posted on the wall next to the hot tub. After 30 seconds of instruction, the issue was resolved. The community pool which is professionally maintained, cleaned, and tested daily did have some small debris from the previous night’s heavy rain, which is not uncommon after heavy rain. We would have been better equipped to handle that, had one of your younger teenage guests not broken the pool vac equipment when jumping the fence and landing on it, instead using the gate 30’ feet away. In any event, the vac was replaced and cleaned on schedule, the following day. The pool temperature was between 74 and 78 degrees the entire time you were there. Again, we had four straight days of “cold” mountain rain prior to your arrival, which temporarily impacted the temperature by just a couple degrees. However “dirty and cold” is an improper characterization. The house temperature has also never been an issue as the summer temperature always stays around 72 degrees here at 4,000’ elevation, however we will look into adjusting the vents for more consistent temperatures throughout the house. Also an easy fix, had we known of the issue while you were here. Over the course of the last 18 months and 60 guests, we have never had a complaint or really anything negative expressed about our home. We strive for an enjoyable experience for our guests. If you find your way in the area again, we would be honored to have an opportunity to exceed your expectations

Our host was wonderful and responsive. Everything was perfect when we arrived, the house is fully stocked with amenities and truly all you need to bring are beach towels for the pool. Good location to local sites. Highly recommend.

The House was beautifully kept! Even better than the pictures. We had a wonderful girls weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this property. Karen was a wonderful host who suggested the perfect activities and dining places for our stay. It is out of the way of any cities but only a short drive from Grandfather Mountain, Boone and Linville Falls. We visited the Linville Falls winery which was the perfect way to start our day. Jonas ridge snow tubing was a small scale tubing facility with 5 lanes and the perfect evening activity. We loved watching movies at the house and using the hot tub. The kitchen had everything we could have needed. Bedrooms were spacious, organized, clean and comfortable. Though we had a small group of just girls, we are already planning our next trip with our families!

Amazing memories with Family, we will never forget

  • 5 of 5

This Family vacation was truly amazing. We loved that the home was very quiet, safe and secluded. We dont shy away from traveling into town and enjoying the amazing scenary. We did so many things throughout our vacation and it was thanks to the amazing Host Karen and her family were to us. We spent time with her family sledding, took advantage of great recommendations and even got some amazing homemade Brownies.

Karen welcomed us with open arms, gave us an amazing tour of the home and the 80 Acre Location. We are already working to setup a vacation next year.

We are truly blessed and honored to have had this opportunity to make these memories during our first time seeing snow as a Family.

Karen and her family made our stay very easy, giving us clean linens and towels as needed and also allowing our family to roam around the property and trails throughout our stay.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy such a quiet and peaceful location in the future, like me and my family were able to do.

Sincerely,

Roger Q.

Great house for a family vacation away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a mountain getaway over Fourth of July weekend with some extended family and had a great time. Although it was secluded it was close enough to some great attractions like Linville Falls and grandfather mountain. Cell phone service is spotty at best but Wi-Fi works well and I did not miss being in contact with the rest of the world. The beds were comfortable and everything was left clean for us. The few small issues we had were with the cable being out from a previous storm and running the hot tub filter. Karen and her team were very responsive in helping us with any issues we had and promptly fixed them. It was great having the pool just across the street and it was nice and warm, almost as if we had our own private pool. There are only a few houses in the neighborhood and we enjoyed walking up the road to the overlook with nice mountain views, walking across the street to Linville winery and climbing up the big hill behind the house. If you are going to cook during your stay I would recommend getting groceries on your way in as it is 15-20 minutes from the house. Basic cookware and utensils are provided although at times we missed our food processor. Overall we had a wonderful time and we would stay here again...thanks Karen!
