A DAY LIVING AT CENTERLOFT:

Inspired Living. Welcome to a one-of-a-kind vacationing experience.

There’s no place in the world like Nantucket, where conserved beauty in nature, history, fine wines and dining, unparalleled shopping, and activities for every level of adventurer nestle together in a dynamic community thirty miles out to sea. Where sustainability and stewardship frame the local mindset. Where generations will enjoy incomparable oceanfront vistas through the changing seasons. Where elements of sky, water, sand, and land create an extraordinary, memorable, and unique opportunity.

You can have it all at Centerloft. A prime location that is your private getaway - cloistered and placid, perched upon the verve of downtown and steps from sparkle of Main Street. When you live at 40 Center, you're 40 steps to anywhere you could want to go in town. For farther flung adventures, Centerloft's prime parking spot means the ease of keeping an auto at your beck and call.

It’s your choice: sleep in, catch up on reading, relax in Centerloft's luxuriously dreamy beds, brew french pressed coffee and let the drifting aroma awaken your senses to the possibilities of the new day. You run across the street still in your slippers for freshly baked croissants from Petticoat Row Bakery.

Dip into the island guidebooks and Nantucket literature tucked on the bookshelf, and when you're brimming with ideas for the day's activities, grab the stack of plush beach towels, thermos, and picnic basket and you're off for the day. Stock up with Provisions by the wharf, then all that's left is to choose whether to adventure on land or at sea.

After a sunkissed day of fun, you're ready to retreat back to Centerloft where you enjoy hot shower and cool downtime, before getting gussied up for dinner. You feel like wearing something new tonight? Shops are still you dash out to Erica Wilson where you pick a new dress. Pause at Epernay for a wine tasting, pickup a bottle of wine and a grab a bouquet from Flowers on your walk back to Centerloft, where that cute little patio beckons you to gather with friends for a glass of wine.

Needn't bother ordering an Uber, as your dinner reservation at the new Club Car is just a few blocks away. You grab your pashmina, clutch, and walk elbow to elbow with your beau to dinner, watching the dogs of nantucket and their owners strolling on their evening walks.

Ice cream from the Juicebar offers a sweet ending to your evening, since it's already on your way back to Centerloft. You pinch yourself as you gaze up at the stars, realizing you're just nightslumber away from experiencing all of this over again, yet in a new way each day.

About Melanie Gowen

Melanie Gowen was born and raised in Washington, DC, but she has always had a love for coastal New England where her lifelong love for real estate began. She graduated from National Cathedral School in 2005 and from Cornell University in 2009 with a BS in Interior Design and Business Strategy. While at Cornell she studied International Marketing and Wines in Florence, Italy and was on the Sailing Team. After college, Melanie worked in financial consulting and gained experience in mortgage banking and regulatory strategy. Managing assets for clients, who often were entrepreneurs owning mulitple real estate assets, she became fascinated with the design and marketing as tools impacting the success of real estate and business. She returned to her architectural roots and founded Melanie Gowen Design, an interior design firm. When the opportunity came to work on a full-scope investment property renovation in Nantucket, Melanie followed her lifelong dream to live on an island, amongst the most beautfiul properties in the world. She especially loves the melding of historic preservation and innovative design that presents unique challenges for renovation and building.

Melanie's passion for enhancing properties by incorporating marketing, design, and branding strategy into the process results in an unparalleled, personalized experience. She consults on real estate development, helping clients strategize on unique investment and design opportunities, and she can pull together the perfect team for any project. Detail-oriented and also a big picture thinker, Melanie is responsive, creative, organized, and adept at thinking both imaginatively and strategically. Melanie loves being out in nature running, hiking, tennis, sailing, fishing, or anything on the ocean. Her favorite beaches are Dionis and Quidnet, and she makes a great bluefish pate. Melanie enjoys being an active member of the community volunteering for the Nantucket Preservation Trust and other organizations.

Guestbook comments from the manager

40 Centre is a stunning property; it is elegant and comfortable, spacious yet cozy, and is in a prime location but manages to be private and quiet . Working with the Windwalker Raveis Real Estate group made the experience that much better because they were extremely accommodating and accessible throughout our time in the apartment. We appreciated the partnership, and hope to return next year.

Notes:
When you stay Centerloft, you can pop downstairs across to the street level for a morning paper, fresh baked goods, coffee, juice, and grab and go foods as well! The building is surrounded by hotels and restaurants. (Please note that it is an "urban" environment, but the loft is tucked in the back away from the street). You'll be mere steps from the Brotherhood of Thieves, Le Languedoc, Dune, Nantucket Prime, Proprietors, Company of the Cauldron, Black Eyed Susans, Boarding House, the Pearl, the Corner Table at the Nantucket Culinary Center, and many more. The Nantucket Visitors' Center is right around the corner, as is the free shuttle to Cisco Brewers. The Nantucket Whaling Museum is just a few doors down on the way to the Steamship Authority and the fast food "Strip." World class shopping is located blocks away. So much to see and do!

Better than a boutique hotel

  • 5 of 5

Centerloft is perfect. The location is fantastic if you're looking for a spot close to the action. The parking spot in town is a real coup as well. The decor is stunning - every detail is special. It has the feel of a boutique hotel, with the comfort of home. Melanie is a lovely hostess, I guarantee you'll enjoy your stay.

Very chic and adorable... great location, too!

  • 5 of 5

Booked for 5 days in July and LOVED calling this 'HOME', while vacationing with my family. Beautiful, fun decor, light and airy, linens and towels were plush and clean, beds were comfortable. Loved the quiet location tucked away off of Center Street, yet close to everything. Had a car- so the parking space was convenient. Rented bikes and locked them up to the bike rack just outside the front door. It was warm during our stay and the a/c worked for the common areas, didn't quite reach the bedroom. Suggest adding curtains or plantation shutters to the living room to block early morning sun. Otherwise perfection!!!

Bathroom and kitchen were lovely, all essentials were available.

I suggest Center Loft to anyone who wants the convenience of being in town, who appreciates stylish accommodations, and doesn't mind stairs.

We hope to stay there again next time... thanks Melanie!!

Overall impression was that it was quite tight and we could hear both people above and below .

Beware,,, if you leave any signs of makeup on the white washroom towels, or do not properly separate all the recycling into 3 categories (plastic, aluminum and glass) , or if you do not throw a load of towels in the wash for the next renters upon checkout, (which, by the way, I've never had to do before, as there is usually cleaning company, which you pay for as part of the upfront fee, who takes care of these things)....you may get a call from the property manager asking you to "cooperate" with her so she can put in a LARGE claim in for her time in re-doing the recycling and replacing all the towels that apparently were "ruined." I have had white linens and towels in my home which have gotten makeup on them and have used a substance called bleach. It takes does take makeup off towels. She also put in a large claim to re-paint the WHITE,, yes, WHITE floors, and an extra cleaning fee claim..just a way to work the system I guess, Laughable and not good business practice.

I don't think I ever got a call from posh resorts we've stayed at for things like this. It's just normal stuff expected when humans stay in a space for a few days.

The toilet had a ring in it when we arrived and a distinct smell of urine or mold ,,, couldn't figure it out. So I took matters into my own hands and profusely cleaned the toilet to no avail..

Theres no doubt there was some thought behind the decorating and finishes and the bedding was great, however... getting a phone call 4 days after checkout about incorrectly recycled recycling and some makeup on the bath towels or not putting a load of towels in the laundry upon checkout, I felt as though I was the maid service rather than a paying guest.

We live in an upscale community and our home is immaculate. My family always jokes that I go overboard to leave hotels tidy ...

We rent homes many times (a lot on Nantucket) and have only gotten "thank you's" from the owners on the condition we have left any of the places we've rented.

Damage insurance is mandatory, so this manager can put in a claim for whatever absurd thing she chooses and my insurance covers it. It's just the principle I'm struggling with here.

Here we have a young property manager, (not owner) who clearly has no sense of reality and lofty expectations.

We left the apartment in fine shape and have many other options on Island with better layouts, better views, and extremely accommodating and pleasant owners/property managers. Good luck with this one!
