7/10, could so easily be 9/10 with small efforts and investment. If future reviews indicate that these issues are fixed, then don't be put off - the potential of this place is excellent!
We stayed 2 months as a working break, so got to know the place very well.
The good:
- Location: Quiet, isolated, sheltered
- Price: Genuinely a bargain for what you get, but you do need to accept some compromises as it stands today
- Surroundings: Lovely bird songs, great views of the mountains
- Lots of different places to sit (veranda, roof terrace, poolside, BBQ area, dining table)
- Internet is stable and runs at 15Mbps down, 2Mbps up, so not bad for a countryside house. WiFi extends to the poolside easily.
- Generous firewood allowance is provided (though it was never cold enough to really need it, even in March)
The bad:
- Dirty. The house wasn't clean when we arrived, and no cleaning service is included. Clearly had not been cleaned inside for some time, and all dishes and pans had been put away dirty.
- Smelly. 3 rooms have plumbing (en-suite, main bathroom, and a utility room). All 3 rooms smell very badly of mould and the septic tank, and clearly the plumbing needs addressed.
- Bedding. Uncomfortable beds and bedding. We had to go and buy our own pillows, duvet and sheets - the supplied stuff was old, itchy blankets with holes in some of the stuff.
- Kitchen equipment. No kitchen knives provided, went and bought our own. 1 single tiny (20x15cm) chopping board, so bought our own. Coffee maker was so dirty, that even after cleaning it out, water still came through brown....even with no coffee in it! Bought a french press instead.
- Windows: All the shutters are badly maintained (one has a hole in it's wall just stuffed up with toilet paper), meaning they stick and need pulled down from outside each time. There are mosquito nets on some (not all) windows, but they are all damaged, torn etc.
For probably less than €1000 and some basic ongoing maintenance and cleaning, this place could be great. As it is, it's just a bit of a shame.
