About Helen Smallidge
My husband and I grew up in Pretty Marsh and then lived away for most of our adult life. We always came back to visit our families and to spend our summers here in Pretty Marsh. My father build this cabin for my husband Niffie and me and our three daughters. We have shared many fun nights, parties and memories here and now hope that others can make their own memories. It was so nice to come back and slow down. From swimming in the ponds and lakes, boating, hiking and picking blueberries and having my mother bake her famous blueberry pie. We love the location of Pretty Marsh and being closer to the quiet side of the Island but still just a short drive to the other towns. Hope you will enjoy staying here as much as we did for so many years. Helen

Charming and comfortable cottage
The cottage is fully equipped with all items what we need in our home including kitchen utensils and all. The host is very helpful and Helen’s daughter even stopped by twice to get wood sticks for the stove. I love to stay again when I visit Maine
Loved Our Stay
Our family of four loved this cabin in Pretty Marsh and thought it’s location was perfect for our needs. We were able to see and do so much in the short amount of time we were visiting. We would love to visit again in the future!
Thank you Lindsay,
This is a beautiful Island and hope you do come back to visit.
Great accommodations. Fully stocked. Comfortable beds. Very clean. Beautiful area. We loved our stay
The cabin was just what we wanted. I would highly recommend. It was a little cool with no central heat, but the space heaters and wood burning stove were perfect. We absolutely loved our stay!! Thank you😊
Thank you Pam,
So glad you enjoyed your stay.
This cabin is great!
If you have any sence of adventure at all you will love this place, if you need to be pampered this isn't for you. Helen provides you with everything you need and more. Her daughter even dropped us off firewood for the firepit on our first day here. She didn't need to do that, she went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. So much tranquility and beauty. Close enough to everything on the island, yet far enough away from the Bar Harbor tourists. We loved it and shall return.
Thank you Marty,
It was nice to see you all enjoying your stay.
A charming cottage.
Loved this property. A very open floor plan with plenty of room for our family and dog. Would highly recommend this property.
Thank you Randall,
I am glad you all had a nice stay.
Super comfortable cottage!
We adored the cottage. It's prettier and sweeter inside than the pictures show, and there's no way photos can capture all the little tactile details like super soft throw rugs, heavy quilts, luxury sheets, "thirsty" towels, etc.... the things our kids ran around the house touching, and swooning over! We felt very pampered here. There was far more sleeping space than indicated... 5 twins in all, a queen, a huge, thick futon in the living room, and enough window seats to sleep 4 people. As a family of 4, we had ample choices for moving around. It was very hot on MDI last week, and the window seats, being right next to windows, provided a cool spot to sleep on a hot night. When traveling with a family, it means a lot to be able to get away for a little while and have your own space, and this cottage definitely provided for that. We spent lots of time on the front porch, virtually no bugs at all. The kitchen was very well stocked and easy to cook in. Loved the layout of the place. There's an indoor woodstove, and an outdoor fire pit thing, but the weather was too warm for us to use it... would love to come back in cooler weather! there were also a nice collection of games, which we really enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again!
Thank you Rebecca,
So pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay in the Cabin. It is so nice to hear that your family had a great time staying here and visiting MDI.
Pretty Marsh is close to sea, lake and mountains. It has a boat landing, Bartlett's Island Landing, where sea kayak tours are offered daily. The company operates out of Bar Harbor. Also, National Park canoe and Kayak Rentals is 2 miles down the road. They offer paddle boards, canoes and kayaks at the head of Long Pond. A part of Acadia National Park is just up the road offering access to park roads (cars allowed), a ocean side picnic area, and hiking mountains. Bar Harbor is a 15-20 drive and in the summer months there is a free bus service, Island Explorer, with pick up location in Somesville. Most areas on the Island are a 20 minute or less of a drive from Pretty Marsh.
