About Helen Smallidge
My husband and I grew up in Pretty Marsh and then lived away for most of our adult life. We always came back to visit our families and to spend our summers here in Pretty Marsh. My father build this cabin for my husband Niffie and me and our three daughters. We have shared many fun nights, parties and memories here and now hope that others can make their own memories. It was so nice to come back and slow down. From swimming in the ponds and lakes, boating, hiking and picking blueberries and having my mother bake her famous blueberry pie. We love the location of Pretty Marsh and being closer to the quiet side of the Island but still just a short drive to the other towns. Hope you will enjoy staying here as much as we did for so many years. Helen

Had a wonderful time! Fantastic for the cool nights at the beginning of the week we were there - the wood stove was super nice! - and also great for the warmer nights at the end of our stay.
The kitchen was well-stocked; we needed nothing more than groceries. Southwest Harbor was a truly lovely community- don't miss out on the popovers!
Cozy and convenient to Acadia
The cottage was well equipped. My three children enjoyed the three beds up in the loft. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking in house. We enjoyed playing the boardgames . We traveled in early June and traffic was not an issue. It didn't take long to get over to Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park. The pretty marsh area of Acadia is super close, picturesque, and worth checking out.
The pictures didn't do this place justice. It's adorable and in a perfect location. Quick ride to Acadia, Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, Beech Mt, Cadillac Mt. Comfy beds, good water pressure and temp for one bathroom and 4 people, well stocked with everything you could need and great layout for families. Plenty of grocery stores to stop at on your way in to stock up on food. (Def buy mosquito repellent! As a Florida girl I thought I lived in the mosquito capitol of the world and Mount Desert put it to shame. You def need spray for the hikes around here). We really enjoyed our stay here and already recommended the accommodation to our friends.
Prefect location, great cottage, thoughtful host
We loved our stay. It was the perfect location....on the quiet side of the island yet conveniently located to all the trails and conveniences. It was so quiet at night! Last time we stayed in Bar Harbor and the constant crowds/traffic got old fast as we went to a park in part to leave the city behind!
The cabin is roomy so everyone. (2 parents and 2 young adult children) had plenty of privacy. It was well stocked and had everything you could possibly need, including little details. There is a fire circle, grill, clothes line, and plenty of seating outside, too!
We had a little emergency (forgotten ID at home) and the host immediately responded to our request for help to get it to us. Thank you Helen!
This is a cottage (no furnace) but there are heating blankets, room heaters, and a wood stove that we appreciated with the colder/wetter weather than was forecasted.
Nice cottage close to everything in Acadia
The cottage was a great place to stay! It was very comfortable and well appointed. We spent our days hiking and exploring Acadia, Bar Harbor and enjoying Maine in the Fall. The Electric blankets were a must at this time of year. There were space heaters and a small wood stove but no fixed heating system.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent again when we go back!!
Check-in was super easy. The cottage was just what we were looking for. Spacious and clean. Great location. We stayed here during an Acadia and Bar Harbor getaway. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a steak and lobster dinner "at home" as well!
Pretty Marsh is close to sea, lake and mountains. It has a boat landing, Bartlett's Island Landing, where sea kayak tours are offered daily. The company operates out of Bar Harbor. Also, National Park canoe and Kayak Rentals is 2 miles down the road. They offer paddle boards, canoes and kayaks at the head of Long Pond. A part of Acadia National Park is just up the road offering access to park roads (cars allowed), a ocean side picnic area, and hiking mountains. Bar Harbor is a 15-20 drive and in the summer months there is a free bus service, Island Explorer, with pick up location in Somesville. Most areas on the Island are a 20 minute or less of a drive from Pretty Marsh.
