Historic 5 Bedroom Home, Walk To Cumberland Island Ferry
House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
Relax at the Rose ....
'There is something ineffably serene about this house. It is a visual version of a Vivaldi Concerto or Handel’s Water Music. I sit and absorb the soothing impact of pale walls against honeyed woodwork, the abundance of flowing space and the unusual sense of tranquility that one feels here. My eye delights in the detail of the solid mantel-pieces that rest above the eight fireplaces, the perfectly chosen artwork that is redolent of a long-ago, somehow simpler, time and the light…always the glorious abundance of light that fills the house.' ...St Marys Magazine
A 1907 Historic Home located in the heart of the historic district of St. Marys, Ga. A traditional 'foursquare' design, and one of the first homes in the area constructed of an unusual type of block (known as granitoid, rarely seen in South Georgia).
The home has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a formal dining room and comfortable living room. While the home has been modernized (central heating and air conditioning, modern kitchen, and more), one can still appreciate the original details of hardwood floors, large windows, dramatically high ceilings and two large porches - all surrounded by a half acre of camellias, azaleas, roses, magnolia, oak, camphor, cedar and persimmon trees, scuppernong grapes and a variety of other lush plantings.
Saint Marys .... For those of you who are not familiar with St. Marys, allow me to acquaint you with this wonderful small town. Located on the banks of the St. Marys River, the town is the second oldest in the U.S, following St. Augustine, Florida. It is in the Southeast-most corner of Georgia, nestled just west of Cumberland Island and east of Highway I-95. Jacksonville International Airport is only 30 minutes away. It is centrally located between Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach and Jekyll Island/St. Simon's Island/Sea Island. Once in St. Marys however, it feels a world away. Everyone greets you with a smile, and strangers wave hello. St. Marys was named The Best Small Town in America by Money Magazine, and is the site of the 2004 HGTV Dream Home. It was also recently highlighted in Southern Living Magazine.
The town is small and quiet with moss draped oaks and a charming atmosphere. The house is within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. Bikes and golf carts are available to rent. A kayak outfitter offers a variety of trips for all levels of experience. Or try your hand at fishing from the pier or in the river and tidal area. The Rose-Lovell House is just two blocks from the Cumberland Island Ferry and public boat ramp. It is a 45-minute ferry ride to what the Travel Channel has ordained as 'America’s Most Beautiful Wilderness Beach'. Stroll the trails and beaches and catch a glimpse of wild horses, dolphins, white tailed deer, armadillos, wild turkeys and a variety of other birds.
Stop in to the St. Marys Visitor's Center for information regarding activites, restaurants and local history. Meet at the flagpole on the waterfront to join the historic tram tour.
Head 45 minutes west to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Take the guided boat tour and learn about the swamp inhabitants and its fragile ecosystem, or rent a canoe or kayak and see some of the wildlife up close.

Our stay was really nice. We enjoyed local restaurants and parks. The property was in a walkable location. Very large and comfortable bedrooms and plenty of parking. Beth, the host, responded quickly to any questions. Would definitely book again in the future.
The property was centrally located to everything we needed. We came for a funeral and the church was right around the corner. There was lots to do for every age range at all times of the day. The kids were exhausted when they left but will have good memories

Cathy, I am glad you all enjoyed your time together and hope you will return!
The location is just perfect for a nice stroll to the waterfront. Our family loves staying here for a memorial golf tournament each year. House is in excellent condition for a 120 year old house. It’s on a quiet street but close to shops/restaurants.
We had an excellent stay at the Rose Lovell home in St. Mary's. The home was perfect for accommodating our group who were visiting for a family get together and the high school graduation of our grandson. This home has such a history and the rooms and furnishings were wonderful. We all cherished the time spent!

We enjoyed our stay very much.
A very nicely decorated home and a great place to stay with friends. Only complaint would be the 100 year old home has a 100 year old smell.

Thank you, Jeff, for your comments. Glad you enjoyed your stay. I'll definitely be in touch with the cleaning crew to see what we can do to improve any "old house" smell. There's only so much deep cleaning of wood with Murphy's oil soap that can be done, but we sure will look into it!
Great location...quiet neighborhood...walking distance to Cumberland Ferry, shops and restaurants. Plenty of room for 6 ladies celebrating our March birthdays in this beautiful and well maintained house. Thank you for a wonderful girls getaway!

My extended family and I had a wonderful time. The house was plenty big enough for the 10 of us, and it was centrally located so we could walk to most of the activities and restaurants. I highly recommend the Rose Lovell House.

Beautiful restored inn -- great for larger groups!
This beautiful historic inn built in 1907 was a wonderful place to stay with friends for a long weekend getaway. The place is stocked with amenities and kitchen essentials. The host is VERY responsive if ANYTHING came up and we communicated things well. Would highly recommend this LOVELY place!! Lovely town and surrounding area as well.

Thank you Miriam for staying at The Rose Lovell House. Hope you will come back another time!
This was an absolutely beautiful property! Everything about this home was wonderful. The decor and furnishings made us feel at home, cozy and pampered. The kitchen became a gathering place as was the bright and comfy living room with plenty of seating. Each of us in our group of 5 had our own bedroom, and with 3 baths, there was no problem with space to get ready. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer to take advantage of areas of the house we didn't have time to use (the gorgeous dining room, the second story balcony). This property is not a property that is decorated to be minimally acceptable - it truly is like you are in someone's home with books, artwork, linens etc. that make a house a home. The host was wonderful, providing proactive communication so our booking, access and stay were easy. Highly, highly recommend!
