4 bedrooms on private ocean cove with spectacular views and gardens

With 1000 feet of shoreline, Blue Arches is a beautiful contemporary 4 bedroom 2264 sq ft home on a private cove with spectacular views. This 22 acre oceanfront property is a private sanctuary for those who love coastal Maine. Imagine how nice it will be to have one of the loveliest homes in the desirable Oceanville section of Stonington all to yourself. Blue Arches has a great many decorative touches throughout the home including hardwood flooring, tasteful furnishings and a lovely brick fireplace. The landscaped grounds and gardens are filled with flowers for cutting and enjoying.

Blue Arches is a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home. The attractive first floor is filled with light and all rooms have beautiful views of either the water or surrounding gardens. The main floor includes a spacious, well-equipped kitchen to satisfy even the best cook, a glassed-in, formal dining area. The office/den offers a desk with a stunning view that can double as a quiet reading nook or TV room. This well-laid out home has an inviting, stylish living room with plenty of seating for family gatherings.

Blue Arches has three first floor bedrooms with a full bath, half bath and laundry room.

The entire second floor of Blue Arches houses the master suite with king bed, ocean views, tall ceilings and warm woodwork. A large closet and a master bathroom with bidet and jacuzzi complete the suite.

The exterior of Blue Arches provides many great features including a wrap-around deck which connects to a screened-in porch as well as a covered section of porch where you can spend an afternoon reading and admiring the movement of the tides, blue herons and other birds that live in this pretty cove - sometimes we even have a seal come for a visit!

We have CABLE TV as well as HIGH SPEED INTERNET for live-streaming movies, and multiple people online at the same time.

ENJOY YOUR MUSIC or radio throughout the house. The house is wired for sound so that you can easily play music throughout the house from a smart phone, iPad, computer or iPod. Just plug in and play - you can play sound in certain rooms and not in others according to your choice.

The yard is protected by woods that are perfect for a walk or a wander. The lawn is big and open providing the perfect place for yard games (bocce ball, badmitten, horseshoes, volleyball - equipment supplied) or simply sitting and basking in the quiet beauty of this idyllic setting while watching the hummingbirds dance around the flower beds. An enchanting variety of perennial and annual flowers all around the grounds provide lovely scents and bouquets for you to enjoy.

Blue Arches has the perfect spot to launch your kayaks, and for the more adventurous, afternoon swims are a refreshing treat. There are great hikes on the island!

If you're looking for a spacious and well-kept vacation rental that feels like an island sanctuary for your friends or family retreat on the beautiful Maine coastline, this home will be the perfect fit for you and your loved ones!

About Dan Hadley

We were so fortunate to be able to purchase this land and work with an architect to build our family dream home. It was designed to integrate with the surrounding natural beauty—the ocean, the forest, the sun. Our kids and grandkids have loved Blue Arches and we hope your family does too.

Dan Hadley purchased this house in 1985

Why Dan Hadley chose Stonington

One of the unique features of this area is the great Blue Heron, which you'll likely see when you stay. We love these majestic birds and the blue arches we built in the foyer entrance and garden patio are designed to pay them homage.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your sweet note, Jocelyn. It meant so much to me when you said "It was just so special to be on that cove and watch the water rise and fall. It felt like a long meditation on life. I fell in love." This private cove and the wildlife that's there - the blue herons, the seals, the woods and water are quite magical. I'm so glad you felt your time was so enjoyable!! I love to hear that! You are welcome to come back any time!

Loved the vacation

  • 5 of 5

Awesome view; super private -- you have the whole bay for yourself (swimmable in the high tide, but the water is murky).

Nice area; easy way to Isle Au Haut or to local places (Barred Island, Quarry preserve, Lily Pond to name a few).

Very quiet and comfortable; responsive owner; stylish and clean house.

The water comes from the well, so you got to be a bit careful with the usage.

The internet is ok -- good enough to work most of the time; but easily overloaded if the kids are streaming the videos at the same tame.

Will come back again.

Beautiful Artist's Haven

  • 5 of 5

As an artist, and someone who appreciates pristine nature, this well maintained property was heaven! I saw paintings wherever I looked, from all the tasteful aesthetic choices within the home of the owners, to the undulating shorelines, and expansive views across the bay. In our five days there we saw only one person anywhere within the view. Kayaking was a nice bonus for my wife, and adult kids, to enjoy while I was absorbed in my work. Even though our weather was often cloudy, and rainy, that week, the many skylights and the open design of the house kept our mood light and airy. I wish I could have stayed and painted longer. One can find a thousand different subjects and compositions in any direction! I plan to return, and look forward to many rewarding artistic discoveries that await, at Blue Arches. Heartily, and "Artily" recommended!!!

As beautiful as the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

We loved being next to the water and enjoyed the occasional deer that would go by. Loved sitting on the back porch and watching the tide come in and go out. Property is very peaceful and we felt we were getting away from it all. House was very nice, a little dated but overall charming. Would recommend!
