This 4 bedroom, 5.5 bathroom stunning mountain home is nestled right in the heart of Black Mountain in the Pisgah National Forest . Whether you're looking for a place to relax with family or friends, or hosting a business retreat, this is the place for you. Each bedroom is built like a suite, with its own full bath and enough beds and space for the entire family.

Upon arrival to Bama Bear Lodge, the first thing you will see is the covered front porch area with stone arches. Here you will find Adirondack swivel glider rockers waiting for you to sit and enjoy the breezes and mountain top views.

Upstairs offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and will take your breath away with the picturesque sunrises and sunsets. Make your way downstairs to the main floor and find a full kitchen, open floor plan living and dining room with a gas log fireplace, and the master suite. Two glass French doors lead you out onto the upper patio where you can lounge by the fire-pit and take in the fresh mountain air. No mountain home would be complete without a full basement entertainment area. Choose between a thriller in the private media room, or challenge yourself to a game of shuffleboard, darts, or a game of cards in the game room. If you find yourself hungry or thirsty in the middle of a heated match of Uno, just make your way over to the second kitchen/bar area in the basement. Before turning in for the night, we recommend you take advantage of gazing at the stars while relaxing in the 8 person hot tub on the lower patio. You won't regret it!

The house is minutes away from downtown Black Mountain, a short drive to Asheville and walking distance to several trails leading to the Upper Falls. If you need to take care of business while staying at Bama Bear Lodge, there is unlimited high speed internet and WIFI to meet your needs.

Great House with a Great View

The house was clean, beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed the view and, Wes the owner, made sure we had everything we needed. He even brought some cinnamon rolls to the house! The Catawba Falls Trail was our favorite and it’s close to the house. Highly recommend!

Perfect for Our Family Gathering!

We so enjoyed our stay. The home was a perfect place for our large family to gather and enjoy each other, and the hosts were so helpful. They really thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and fun. We even hired a photographer to come and take photos of our family, and the back patio made for beautiful pictures! Highly recommend!

Beautiful Property

After two months of coronavirus lockdown we needed a change of scenery and the Bama Bear was perfect for a getaway. Great views, comfortable and well-appointed, and Wes was great to deal with. We hope to come back with a larger group.

Great for our group. Every couple having their own suite was key. Great rooms, they are all huge. Showers are also impressive. The view from the front porch is insane, and the view of the stars from the hot tub is also out of this world. Great property and very accommodating.

The house was spectacular both inside and out. The rooms and layout are much bigger than what the pictures show. The homeowner was very resourceful. Do take note that the house is at the top of the mountain, it is beautiful, but also 25-30 minutes up or down the mountain.

We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful mountain home! The house is thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated. Every room felt warm, inviting, and well-planned. The hosts were incredibly kind and always just a message away, making us feel well taken care of throughout our stay.Our group of six families had the most wonderful time—kids and adults alike! From cozy conversations to shared meals, it was the perfect setting to create lasting memories together. Truly a gem in the mountains, and we would love to come back again.The house has everything one could think of, including plenty of outdoor space with fireplaces that made our evenings extra special.One of the best trails we explored was the hike to Upper Catawba Falls, starting near the home (approximate address: 3214 Catawba Falls Pkwy, Black Mountain, NC 28711, added picture as well). The hike was adventurous and so much fun! Some sections are a bit steep, so we wouldn’t recommend it for young kids. Thankfully, someone had tied pink or orange ribbons along the trail, which helped guide us and made the hike much easier to navigate.

Great mountain property for all ages

Our family of three generations rated this our favorite mountain property—and we’ve rented several good ones in the past. The property offers numerous gathering spaces but still feels like a home; the family shuffleboard tournament was great evening entertainment. Do take care hiking the Catawba Falls Trail from this high end—the drops are quite steep. Our group elected to hike all the way to the bottom trailhead parking lot for a pickup rather than chance getting caught at dusk in a slow climb back up.

A Piece of Paradise

This rental exceeded my expectations. Our group included 20 family members -children through adult. The house was beautiful and very comfortable. There was enough room for all of us to relax, visit and eat. The owner (Wes) was nearby and always available. But we never needed anything as the house was completely furnished with dishes, kitchen appliances, games etc. The home is up the hill from the main road so the views are spectacular. It didn't take long to get to the town of Black Mountain or Ashville. My family and I highly recommend this property.

Great weekend get away!!!

We really enjoyed our time here! 4 couples looking for a home to simply hang out and catch up for a long weekend. The home is nicely appointed as the pictures depict. Everything is labeled and easy to find. The views from the from drive way are great. We really spent most of our time sitting around the fire put on the back balcony. The home can accommodate a lot of people. If you are looking for a nice neighborhood and a true get away, this home truly fits. The home owners, Wes and Susan, were very helpful and easy to communicate with. We look forward to going back soon!

Nice property but intrusive host

The property was beautiful. However, the host walked into the house uninvited several times throughout the weekend. He also watched the house and would text us when we simply had a window open to enjoy the fall weather. Completely unacceptable intrusive behavior and put a damper on the trip.

Our Wedding Escape!

My husband and I had our wedding at The Bama Bear Lodge and it was absolutely amazing! You could not ask for better hosts. Susan and Wes were very responsive, accommodating, and they really went out their way to ensure we had a great time. They already had many of the amenities needed for an event and Wes was always checking in on us to make sure everything was ok. They are wonderful people and we were very lucky to find them. Their home is gorgeous with breathtaking views overlooking the mountains and changing leaves. We had the reception in the back where Wes built a massive awning to prevent rain from ruining our special day. We cannot say enough good things about this place. We enjoyed it so much, that we are already planning family gatherings to come back. We highly recommend this place to anyone! Thank you so much Wes and Susan for letting us borrow your home for our wedding day. It was everything would could have wanted!

Perfect gathering place

Our extended family celebrated Christmas 2017 at Bama Bear Lodge. The "cabin" was a perfect place to gather. There are many communal areas for cards, games, movies, meals and gatherings as well as areas to tuck in and regroup if needed. The cabin was beautifully decorated for the season which made our stay there even more special. The views from every window, the decks and the front entrance are gorgeous. Facility wise, the cabin is well designed, and had more than enough room for our party of 14, we had many empty beds. The kitchen is a roomy gathering place, with every appliance and utensil we could ask for. The decks and fire pits are expansive and beautiful, we were there during an arctic blast so we really didn't spend much time on the decks but we did enjoy the huge hot tub on the lower deck. The owners Wes and Susan are very responsive and made sure that we had everything we needed for a perfect stay. The house was completed in August of 2017 and Wes is a builder so it was almost like staying in a designer show house with all the new bells and whistles. The location was ideal for hiking locally, no car needed, and the town of Black Mountain has a huge grocery store, liquor store and restaurants. Asheville was a quick drive and we took advantage of the proximity to tour the Biltmore, sample many breweries and went to Biscuit Heads for breakfast one day - highly recommend!! Some members of our party hired a local guide for fly fishing, also convenient. I would give Bama Bear Lodge 5 stars, I would love to go back in the fall and/or spring.

Awesome stay in the mountains

Spent Thanksgiving with my family at this wonderful property. So peaceful. The house has everything you need. We took advantage of the private trailhead to go view the Upper Catawba Waterfall. What an awesome site. The trail is not easy but still doable for most able body adults and teens. There is another smaller waterfall that is easier to get to if you if you are not comfortable with maneuvering heights. The hot tub was was a great treat after our hike. The house is high enough to be away from light pollution so the sky lights up at night with a heavenly light show of stars. Even saw a shooting star while we were gazing. Plenty of space and games in house. Thank you to the Hubbard's for such a great weekend filled with family memories.

We felt right at home

It was an incredible getaway for our entire family to celebrate the new year. Plenty of room for everyone to have their own space yet be together at the same time. The kitchen was fully stocked with any item you could possibly need. We especially liked how all the cabinets were labeled, as well as all the light switches. The owners were extremely accommodating to our every need ... most importantly when we had the danger of a snowstorm headed our way. We truly appreciated their hospitality and will definitely like to come back again .... the view was incredible and the nearby hiking trail wonderful. Thank you Wes & Susan!

Awesome Vacation!!

Location of this property is unbelievable and boy were we blown away. I have stayed at so many properties and this one stands out as one of the most memorable places. We all want to come back and will be planning more stays at Bama Bear! Wess, the property manager/owner, went above and beyond hosting us, from waiting till we arrived and walking us around the property to checking on us daily to see how we were doing and if there was anything we needed. Donuts treat on one morning was something special for kids. He was just the sweetest and the most hospitable person you'd ever meet. The property itself is absolutely amazing, from the moment you walk in and seeing how close you are to the mountains, which btw is a million dollar view. The house is very spacious, very well maintained, spotless clean, and had everything you could think of. The kitchen is extremely well stocked. The bathrooms are very clean and towels and toiletries are well kept. The linens in the bedrooms are clean and the place is spick and span. The property offered everything for all ages. When we were inside, adults hung out in the open space while the kids played downstairs. When outside, you could hike to Catawba Falls, enjoy fire pit or spend time in hot tub. Wess and Susan, you were awesome and have an amazing place. We will be back. Thanks for sharing your beautiful house with us.

Absolute Perfection

Our weekend at Bama Bear was truly picturesque. This property was stunning from the time we checked-in when we’re absolutely blown away by the view and home. The pictures could never do this property justice. On top of that, the owners are fantastic to deal with and even came by to make sure everything was good during our stay. To wrap it all up, the trailhead at that’s about a half a mile from this house leads to one of the most stunning waterfalls I have ever seen! We are definitely recommending this property to others and even considering a friends get together back at Bama Bear in the future!

Fantastic property and owners

Traveled here with 15 friends for a long weekend and we had an awesome time. The owners were great with communication and super helpful with check in, hiking directions, and even dropped off fresh donuts in the morning! The place is huge, clean, and had great amenities and walkable to an amazing hiking trail. They even had the pantry stocked with some basics. Great experience would definitely recommend!

Asheville at its best

The property is absolutely fantastic. From the moment you turn into the driveway you are met by a massive property with stunning views. As you start to explore, it’s clear that each inch of the property was carefully crafted. From 3 comfortable outdoor living spaces, all with state of the art furniture, and thoughtful extras (fire pits, hot tub, grill, places to eat), to four massive bedrooms with plenty of places to sleep, to state of the art indoor living areas to congregate and play, including a downstairs game room and closets full of extras to keep your guests busy for the duration of the trip! Nothing cheap here! It’s high end appliances and furniture throughout the property. The property owners have great care for their property, and are always reachable whenever needed. This is an incredible property. Would absolutely stay here again if I am back in the Asheville area.

Retired contractor and school teacher, who decided to make their dream home for extended family getaways a reality. Currently the two reside in South Carolina, only a short 2 hour drive from the property. Every detail from the wood on the trim to the custom iron chandelier were hand picked and installed by the owners.

Why they chose this property

The owners have traveled to the Black Mountain area on numerous occasions between youth retreats to family reunions to personal leisurely getaways and decided that when the time was right, they wanted to find a piece of this place to call their own.

What makes this property unique

This home was built from the ground up by the owners. They searched for months for the perfect piece of property. They built the house large enough to invite all of their friends and family while still providing you the seclusion and intimate space to enjoy the views and scenery that surround.
