(Please note, this is a yurt, not a cabin.)
Enjoy quiet time lounging inside or sprawl out on the deck which offers a great view of the farm and incredible sunsets, convenience for grilling, reading, doing yoga or whatever you might enjoy.
Inside there is one queen bed in the loft with a window to the sky, and a convertible queen-sized futon on the main floor in the main living space. There's a large full bathroom, plus a changing room/closet to store your things. Organic cotton sheets, bedding and towels are all provided for each guest. (The loft is not suitable for young children - there is no railing.)
The kitchen has pots, pans, dishes, cups, oil, vinegar, spices, a french press (with instructions) and locally roasted organic coffee ready for your use. The gardens just outside the door offer cooking herbs for picking and are a great pair to the local food options listed below. There is gas grill and outdoor furniture for summer cookouts. Also there's a small fire pit among the trees (wood provided). Inside, there's two space heaters, a ceiling fan and two moveable fans. (There is no A/C). ** May and October renters should know that Upstate NY can be cool during these months. Plan to use the wall heater and extra space heater. There's also a small wood stove, but it is only effective if you're experienced heating with them. Let us know if you are, and we'll provide wood**
Farm Fresh Local Foods items (produced within 8 miles of here!) are available upon request. We'll stock the kitchen with what you order! Pair these with regional beverages and cook up some amazing meals. Food options include harvests from our own Wellspring Forest Farm *maple syrup, *fresh shiitake and oyster mushrooms, and *duck eggs (taste like chicken eggs, but higher in protein and lower in cholesterol), plus seasonal tastes from nearby; *Black Pearl Creamery *sheep's yogurt, Cayuta Sun pastured *bacon and *sausage. Contact us for more details or visit our farm's site. (Note: 48hrs advanced booking is needed to accommodate some of the food options).
You are welcome to walk our woods, gardens and fields. We provide a walking map of our land. The yurt is nestled in the woods at Wellspring Forest Farm, a small diversified operation that produces mushrooms, maple syrup, elderberry extract, duck eggs, and grazes sheep and ducks. Because this is a working farm - with farm animals, dogs and electric fences - it's not generally suitable for children under 10. Please contact us before booking with kids.
We are located just 12 miles from Ithaca, 12 miles from Watkins Glen, and 8 miles Trumansburg, NY, a perfect jumping off point for the wine, beer or cheese trails, waterfall hikes, restaurant outings, graduation weekend events, the Ithaca Farmers Market and more! There is no Internet in the yurt. The closest access place is Trumansburg Gimme! or the Library. Cell phone service can be spotty depending on your provider. Generally texting always works.
We've left a helpful guide to the region for you to peruse during your stay including restaurant info, hikes, swimming spots and more! We can also send you this info once you book, if you'd prefer.
