About this property
Independent villa set in the most beautiful frame of Val d'Orcia
Independent villa with 8 sleeps.
Fontecipressi lies on a sunny hillside just below the Villa of La Foce, facing the much-photographed road flanked by cypresses that winds up the far hill. The farm itself was built on a model designed by Cecil Pinsent, the English architect that created the garden at La Foce, in the 'twenties. It is now completely restored and converted.
Fontecipressi consists in two houses, of which the smaller is adjacent to the swimming pool and contains a twin bedroom and en-suite bathroom, opening onto a private terrace with a spectacular view of the famous winding road on the 'crete' (clay hills).
On the north side, the bigger house is sheltered by a row of cypresses ending in a semi-circle, where a stone table and benches have been put for al fresco meals. Pergolas line one side of the house just beside the kitchen, with another table for outdoor meals, and there is another pergola on the terrace in front of the smaller house, next to the pool. There are many cool corners at Fontalgozzo for dining, reading or just enjoying the view.
The garden, complete with its own pool, was designed by the English architect Peter Curzon.
The travertine fireplace in the living room was originally created by Cecil Pinsent for the main Villa, and the spiral stone staircase leading to the first floor is a copy of a fifteenth-century model found in the nearby town of Montepulciano. Bedrooms are full of light and decorated with charming fresh colours.
