What a fabulous place!

A perfect place to stay to explore Romney Marsh in all its otherworldliness! The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could possibly need and of such good quality (bedding, towels, kitchen equipment etc) that our stay was faultless, we shall definitely return…

A wonderful stay in Dungeness

Lovely accommodation in one of my favourite places in the UK. I would highly recommend West Cottage to anyone who loves Dungeness or want to experience it's beauty for the first time.

Lovely cottage

The cottage is lovely and well equipped, very comfortable. The location is sort of funny as it is right beside the power plant, close to the beach which was nice for walks. Would be great in summer! Overall had a nice time

Great stay

Perfect location,beautiful cottage, everything needed for a quiet walking holiday.If it had any negatives it would be the sofa, in the lounge, was very uncomfortable,but that's nit picking.

Beautiful house - fantastic location

I was surprised by the classiness of this little house. The attention to detail in the renovation is really outstanding and overall it is a stylish and really comfortable base for exploring Dungeness. The proximity to the lighthouse and the miniature railway was also perfect.

Week in Dungeness

Lovely cottage with everything we needed in place. Nice and warm during a cold week. Only downside is the sofa, really uncomfortable unable to sit on it.

Stunning coastal cottage

For me, West Cottage is one of the loveliest coastal cottages I’ve ever stayed in…it is spacious, bright and beautifully designed…every detail both inside and out, in the gorgeous garden, is outstanding, making this the perfect peaceful and serene hideaway, with unique and rustic views out over Dungeness. The entire booking process including communication with the owner was faultless, and I can’t wait to stay here again…thank you for a truly wonderful stay in such a special property.

Just fabulous

A wonderful and cosy cottage in the remote area of Dungeness nature reserve. Fantastic pubs within walking distance, beach a few yards away. Property was beautifully presented with very comfortable beds and seating areas. Great base for exploring, or for getting away from it all. Hosts were very thoughtful and kind, with great communication. Needless to say - we loved it.

There’s only one problem with staying at West Cottage…

I’ve stayed at West Cottage before and recently returned for a mini break…there’s only one problem with staying at West Cottage…you have to leave!

Wonderful cottage

We loved our stay in West Cottage. The location was perfect and the cottage itself was beautiful - warm, cosy and had everything we needed. The only thing to note, as other reviewers have said, the sofa is VERY uncomfortable. It gave me a bad back and I had to sit on a dining room chair instead. I would highly recommend the owner replace it! Other than that our stay was perfect!

West Cottage, Dungeness

We had a wonderful stay in Dungeness. West Cottage is lovely and beautifully done. The furnishings are comfortably simple and very attractive. The stone building was cosy - cool in the sun and warm in the rain. Easy access to the boardwalk and shingle beach. The kitchen is well-equipped and our check-in / check-out very straightforward. I'm only hesitant to leave a glowing review as want to be sure we will be able to return sometime soon!

A stunning cottage in an amazing location

This historical cottage has been sympathetically updated, giving modern facilities that blend in with the age of the building. From the lounge there are views across the shingle to other interesting buildings that point to the past heritage of this area and then onto the sea. In the evening Dungeness becomes very calm and peaceful and West cottage is the ideal place in which to chill, watch the ships in the distance as they sail through the English Channel whilst enjoying a slower and more relaxed pace of life. This property is highly recommended.

Stunning Cottage in Dungeness

This property is designed/decorated to a beautiful standard and is extremely thoughtfully appointed with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Katherine the owner was extremely welcoming to a property with so much Dungeness history. Highly recommend for an incredibly memorable food option - Supper on the Stones at Claire Bruce’s Dungeness Kitchen. You can book Claire privately for a group and she will cook and host you at her amazing home which is an old Lloyds Signal building. She is a thoroughly engaging host who uses all locally sourced produce and has incredible knowledge of the area and the power station.

A week on the Ness

What a stunning place and setting. Perfect for exploring Dungeness and the area, great views from all the windows, warm and cosy. I personally didn’t find the settee very comfortable, but managed by making a nest of pillows and cushions. Luckily I was on my own or this might have been an issue. Couldn’t fault anything else, has been done up to an impressively high standard.

Expectations met

I always research where we might go on holiday and having seen a press article in a renovation publication I knew what to expect when booking West Cottage.at Dungeness. The property enjoys sea views from the lounge and master bedroom, and from the kitchen the old lighthouse and the entrance door across to the new lighthouse. The owners has created a calm home with quality furnishings, comfortable bedrooms and in an amazing location. We took advantage of our immediate location, the garden, the beach, the Fish Shack, Prospect Cottage and a walk to the now decommissioned power station. We had the weather to be able to eat in the garden. We saw some beautiful sunrises and intend to return to magical Dungeness in another season.

A calm oasis

We had a wonderful time at the West Cottage in Dungeness. It's a quiet location with lots of excellent walks and places to explore (I highly recommend going for a walk at night along the coast - if the moon is out you won't need a torch!). The log burner made the cottage very cosy at night. And the deep bath was wonderful for enjoying a long, holiday soak. Just a couple of watch-outs for those managing the property - the primary bedroom did smell a bit of damp when we arrived. We soon aired it out but for info. Also, be good to get an ash bin for the log burner and some fire tools (the cottage guide expressly states not to clean it out) and the recommended place to buy kiln dry wood doesn't sell kiln dry wood anymore. We met the host (who was charming) and we'd certainly recommend this lovely space to anyone who wants to really wind down.

West Cottage Dungeness

We loved our short stay at West Cottage. The location is absolutely brilliant, nestled under the old lighthouse. The cottage has been sympathetically restored and has a lovely interior. There were three of us and we did feel that the sette in the lounge was not very comfortable and no other normal height comfy chairs were available. I could see with 4 adults staying, having only one bathroom with one toilet might also be inconvenient. The outside space could do with being tidied up as it was all overgrown and one could not easily access the table and chairs. Some of the views from inside were obscured by the overgrown gardens too. I'm aware that the norm for Dungeness is for things to be a bit Hickle de Picklelty but better access to the outside space is a necessity. The TV was fairly ancient by today's standards. Fortunately the weather was good and we didn't watch the TV, but if stuck inside due to poor weather it might be a bit frustrating. We would definitely go back as a couple, but probably not as a party of 3 or 4.

Escapism

West Cottage is simply marvellous, so beautiful inside - every little thing had been thought of. It has a great atmosphere, it cocoons you with its thick stone walls and the elegant furnishings. It’s a great retreat from the outside world set in a beautiful, unique landscape
