Other things to note
The Périgord Vert is a region with outstanding beauty, stunning undulating countryside and steeped in history. Here, there is something for everyone be it a gentle stroll around a lake, shopping, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, golf or simply sitting in a French café with a coffee watching the world go by.
The Périgord Vert offers some of the prettiest towns, restaurants and attractions that the Dordogne has to offer.
We are perfectly located between Brantôme, Thiviers and Périgueux. Thiviers received the accolade of “Best Market in Aquitaine” for 2022 and is a food lover’s paradise specialising in organic produce. Brantôme is stunningly beautiful and best known as the Venice of Perigord Vert whilst Périgueux is unquestionably a beautiful town to explore and lose yourself in the culture and experience.
We are also only 10 minutes from the village of St-Jean-de-Côle, which is one of only 156 members of Les Plus Beaux Villages, meaning "the most beautiful villages of France".
In addition, Bergerac is only a 1 hour 15 mins drive. This town sits on the Dordogne River and is well worth a visit with its majestic medieval history. Additionally, Bordeaux is only a 2 hour drive away which is also a stunning city to discover with its fabulous architecture, shopping and restaurants.
If you are a wine connoisseur, St. Emilion is a must! Not only will you find some of the best wine, it is also full of charm and very picturesque. You can’t beat a day out here!
We are also very lucky to have some wonderful restaurants all within a short drive from us.
Take a 10 minute drive to St-Jean-de-Côle and you will find four excellent restaurants all located within a truly picturesque setting in the heart of the village.
Slightly further afield (15 minutes by car) to Brantôme, you will find a wide range of delicious restaurants to chose from.
If you fancy something more simple, say pizza, burger or a traditional Périgord salad, then head to Thiviers which is also only a 15 minute drive away. If you’re happy to drive further afield, Périgueux also has many wonderful restaurants to tempt your tastebuds!
We are also extremely fortunate to have two Michelin starred restaurants within easy reach being Le Moulin de l’Abbaye in Brantôme and Le Moulin du Roc in Champagnac-de-Belair. These are not cheap but for that special occasion, we would highly recommend them.
There is something for everyone so come and see for yourself! We look forward to welcoming you to our Maison d'Amis soon!

A beautiful house, well-equipped and great for families. The pool is lovely and very welcome in the August heat! The hosts are very welcoming, kind and helpful.
The location is peaceful and quiet but in easy reach by car from some towns and activities. Brantôme and Perigueux were lovely to visit and the caves at Villars are worth a visit especially with kids.
Highly recommended!

Thank you Emily for your lovely review. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family.
Excellent stay! Clean and well appointed. Even had sharp knives! Had everything we needed. Spacious, comfortable patio with a lovely view. Beds were comfortable. A bathroom up and one down. Helen and Steve couldn't have been more gracious and helpful. Would happily return and certainly recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Helen Austin Cotton
Originally from Kent (UK), having spent many years commuting back and forth to London where we both had demanding careers, we decided that something had to change! So, we sold our house and took the opportunity to move to France in November 2020, rented a remote farmhouse and drove 12 hours to our new life, with Lucy the cat howling all the way!
After 6 months, we set up home here in the Périgord Vert, perfectly located between Brantôme, Thiviers and Périgueux. As with every new life, there have been some challenges however we are loving our new and varied life here. Thrown into the mix, last year we welcomed Emmie into our family - our adorable and very bouncy English Springer Spaniel!
Both Stephen and I very much look forward to welcoming you to our Maison d’Amis and hope you fall for its charms as much as have.
