We were screwed.

Booking was accepted and paid for. Property host didn't answer messages and the phone number was disconnected. Wasted an entire day of my London vacation dragging luggage around while trying to contact VRBO through chat, email and phone calls. They claimed they would guarantee it but waited so late in the day that everything was booked up. Finally had to book a crappy hotel last minute for more money and charge back to VRBO from my credit card. Their guarantee is supposed to cover the difference but is impossible to get help in a timely manner.
