Il Melograno, an original Dalmatian stone house with a stunning view
Il Melograno is a truly original Dalmatian house, all built in local stones and recently renovated. It is located on a blind alley and is surrounded by a large courtyard enclosed by a natural fence. It is made up of a main building and an extension attached to the house, accessible directly from the garden through a separate entrance. The main building includes a traditional ‘konoba’, i.e., an open space split between the kitchen and the sitting area, three bedrooms with very comfortable beds and two bathrooms delightfully designed and equipped. The extension, familiarly referred to as ‘mala kuca’ (the small house) offers a space of about 40m2, with living and dining space, 1 double bed, and a bathroom. The swimming pool is perfect for an early morning dip or a relaxing evening. A large stone barbeque and the outside dining area in the shade are ideal for family or friends’ gatherings. From the terrace and the windows on the first floor you will be able to see as far as the island of Brac, the city of Makarska and the profile of the beautiful Biokovo mountain on the mainland. The entire villa, the courtyard and the swimming pool are exclusively at the disposal of the guests. Il Melograno is surrounded by many interesting places. Vrbanj, where it is located is a small and quiet Dalmatian village situated in the heart of Hvar Island, named after the Croatian word for willow – vrba. It dates back to the Roman period, which is proven by the remains found in the village – two oil presses and some remains of a leisure villa. It is known for people who know how to enjoy the life and speak with a bit of a different dialect. It is serene and relaxed even at the peak of the Summer season. A bit detached from crowded Hvar town it is still close enough - 20 minutes’ drive away – for those who wish for some ‘Summer adrenaline’. The nearest beach (Soline) is as close as 3.5 km. There are two grocery shops in walking distance, coffee bar, playground, wine tasting bar and a small restaurant/pizzeria. The island of Hvar is the only island in the world that has six UNESCO heritages: Stari Grad Plain (Ager), Procession Za križen (Following the Cross), Benedictine Nuns with Aloe Lace, Klapa singing, Stone walling, Mediterranean diet. It is the mixture of antic and modern, secluded quiet bays and noisy nightlife, making it a perfect place for everyone to enjoy. During your stay the hosts take pleasure in offering guests a-la-carte breakfast free of charge.

Goga and Renzo are amazing hosts and their home is fabulous. We enjoyed the fresh breakfast they prepared for us each morning by the pool. They had great recommendations for things to do and see on Hvar. All the extra touches upon arrival were much appreciated. Highly recommend staying at II Melograno in Hvar.

Thank you very much! It was a great pleasure to have you as guests and we are really pleased that you have enjoyed your stay at Il Melograno. Come again !!! 😊
Il Meligrano is a beautiful space made so much better by Goga and Renzo who are amazing hosts and lovely people. The pool was an amazing addition especially as we were there during a heat wave. Our kids made very good use of it! Goga and Renzo went above and beyond to make our vacation the very best experience, lending us a cooler for our day trip to Bol and giving us great advice especially when it came to restaurants and sightseeing.

Thank you very much for your kind words, Michelle. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. It was a great pleasure to host your wonderful family. Come again 😁
Our family of four including two kids ages 10 and 8 stayed just under a week at Il Melograno in Vrbanj. In addition to it being a very accessible and central location to our favorite hot spots on Hvar (Jelsa, Stari Grad and beaches), the accommodations were extremely well-stocked, spacious, clean and beautiful. The kids especially loved the pool!
Goga and Renzo were wonderful and gracious hosts which was my favorite aspect of the stay - always responsive and accommodating. We so enjoyed the expansive European breakfasts each morning, complete with fresh fruit and salad, cheeses, meats and even eggs cooked to order if you so desire. Pro tip: Ask Renzo for homemade pasta for a true delight. Why not a full pasta meal before 10A when on vacation? Our son is still talking about it!

About the host
Hosted by Gordana
Gordana and Renzo came to the island of Hvar some years ago for a short holiday and .... ended up living here for more than a decade. The mild winters and the sunny days all year around convinced them that this is a beautiful place to be. They love to share their experience on this beautiful island with others and make the stay of their guests an authentic event.
Why they chose this property
Apart from being the sunniest island in Europe, Traveller Magazine has listed the island of Hvar as one of the most beautiful islands in the world. We encourage you to visit all the nearby villages and towns for full enjoyment. Hvar has some of the best beaches on the Adriatic Coast. Make sure to visit some of the well-known ones, such as Soline, Milna, Mina, Dubovica, Pokonji Dol, Zavala, Sveta Nedelja, Gromin Dolac and Ivan Dolac.
What makes this property unique
Expect to be surprised by a truly original Dalmatian house, all built in local stones with their characteristic shades of brown, yellow and red, the old doors and window shades, and the green surrounding the house. Flowers and vegetation in the courtyard, along with the olive, the lemon and the fig trees in the gardens are just a reminder of the beautiful weather the island enjoys all year around. If you want to experience a magnificent sunrise and enjoy the silence under the starry sky at night, you are in the right place! Have a glass of wine, sit on the terrace, enjoy the beautiful sea view and let the children play in the pool and the spacious courtyard that surrounds the villa.
