About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

Nestled between the rolling hills of Austin and the historic sites of The Alamo City, Hen House Cottage is a private, rustic residence situated near the San Marcos River in Martindale, Texas, a quaint town known for its tight-knit community, interesting personalities and scenic views -- which have made it to the set of more than one Hollywood production. With a full kitchen, modern amenities (high speed internet, cable television) and enough room to accommodate four guests comfortably. Hen House Cottage is the perfect headquarters for an extended expedition into the many wonders of Central Texas, a haven for souls who enjoy river life and recreation, a convenient spot to get away from the pressures of the big city in a more relaxed environment, or simply a better alternative to impersonal, inconvenient and cramped hotels while doing business in the area. Local attractions include the well-trafficked outlet malls of San Marcos, nationally acclaimed barbecue restaurants of Lockhart, the original Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels and Texas State University -- home of the LBJ Museum, honoring one of its most famous students, our 37th president Lyndon Baines Johnson. The location offers easy access to San Antonio and Austin by the interstate or toll road. For those who would like to stay close to home during their stay at Hen House Cottage the cool waters of the San Marcos River are a short walk away, and you can enjoy the city park with river access, take a float with one of the tubing services, rent a canoe from a local outfitter, or enjoy your favorite libation on the deck of our own Hays County Burgers and Bar-B-Que.

About The Owner

Arlis has had the fortunate of living in and loving Martindale for many years. She has been an educator in the Austin-area for more than fifteen years. Originally from Junction, she has lived all over the great state of Texas but settled in Martindale to be close to the river.

The Owner purchased this house in 2001

Why The Owner chose Martindale

With a half acre yard Hen House Cottage is the perfect place to unwind while being close to what Central Texas has to offer. Fall asleep to the lullabies of crickets and wake to the cheerfulness of birds.

What makes this house unique

The property is surrounded by fields on two sides and private bamboo on the other. There are several outdoor sitting areas under some of the tallest pecan trees in Martindale.

A++ fantastic host

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Arlis for a great stay and allowing me and my four legged friends a place to call home while we moved my daughter back to Texas State. The location to the campus was ideal and the cottage was very quaint. I will be back in the near future for a football game and hope you have availability. Thanks a million for your hospitality and allowing me the time to not worry, relax and enjoy such a charming temporary home.

Quiet, safe, and had everything you would need.

It was a little tight for 2 adults and 2 kids but exactly what we expected. Towels were laid out, some toiletries if you would need them, enough condiments and dishes. Very comfy beds!

Cozy, clean, warm/cool, safe

  • 5 of 5

This location is a small cottage next to the owners house. It shares the same property. Very much enjoyed our stay here. Arlis was very welcoming and accommodating. She provided us with great information about the local area. Her attention to detail with how she presents her homeaway is second to none. If this location is available we will always choose it over a hotel. Thank you Arlis, we hope to see you again soon.

Quaint and Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This quaint and cozy cottage was the perfect weekend away destination. The homey accommodations gave the feeling of visiting a favorite family member and was a short stroll to the river. Loved it and plan to stay again - like home away from home.
