About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water!

Maestrale, its sister house (Surfdancer), and owner Glen Morgan were featured in a Wall Street Journal article about vacation rentals on February 15, 2013!

This house is solely managed by the owner.

Located at Avon's secret South end (on Park Drive), gorgeous MAESTRALE has unrestricted views of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic. Positioned one house away from the Sound on a cul-de-sac, this very quiet SEMI-SOUNDFRONT location is actually closer to the water than some soundfront houses on the Island. It's just a 6 minute walk to the ocean and a 1 minute walk on a sand/boardwalk path to the shallow, warm waters of the Pamlico Sound where you will find a private-access, secluded shallow-water beach on where kids can wade & find hermit crabs. This is a premier destination for wind sports enthusiasts & is an ideal windsurfing/kiteboarding launch area. You can leave your gear on the beach when you go to the house for lunch or refreshments. The ocean is just a quick 6 minute walk down the street & over the dunes on the community maintained boardwalk. Kayak added in 2012.

The ground level has ample concrete parking, basketball hoop, outside shower, carport, under-house entry, partial boardwalk and lockable storage area (concrete floor) that will accommodate boards and rigged sails. The 1st floor has an inviting 'getaway' sitting room. The first master suite has a full bath with bidet. The second bedroom is bunk equipped and the third is twin equipped. The second bath opens to hallway. MAESTRALE'S large second level great room with tall cathedral ceilings has perfect southern exposure, lots of glass, and 'postcard' views of Hatteras Island's quiet side. The well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and wide dining area is a hit. A 2nd master suite with semi-private bath with bidet is the perfect place to close every vacation day. Wide south sun decks squeeze every drop of sun to warm winter weary guests. New carpeting throughout the house added in 2008 and a 6-person, deep hot-tub / spa.

SPECIAL NOTES:

*This is solely MANAGED by the OWNER.

*Maestrale rents SUN-SUN: Avoid the Saturday traffic!

*Partial weeks (3 night min) only considered within 2 weeks of rental period (if they fall between Sunday-Sunday).

*Sorry - but No Smoking and No Pets (no exceptions)!

The Outer Banks offer a fascinating combination of natural and cultural resources, and provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities:

* The uncrowded, pristine beach (voted best on the coast) is perfect for families.

* Kinnakeet Shores Resort Amenities included with rental (Jr. Olympic swimming pool & tennis -- approximately mid-May to Oct 1)

* Want to explore? Take the ferry from Hatteras Village to Ocracoke Island, home of the infamous pirate, Blackbeard.

*Visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and Museum and the Dunes at Jockey's Ridge State Park (50 miles north).

* Fisherman can choose surfcasting, inlet fishing, ocean fishing at Avon Pier, or sport fishing offshore for flounder, drum, blues, mackerel, tuna, and more.

* Discover multiple intimate restaurants with the Outer Banks own brand of beach hospitality rarely seen in vacation destinations.

* Surfers can take advantage of the location central to the Outer Banks hottest surf spots including Hatteras Light House, S-Turns, and Frisco Pier.

* Windsurfers, Kiteboarders, and Kayakers can access the warm, shallow waters of Pamlico Sound with just short walk. World famous Canadian Hole Haul-over day use area and Kite Point are less than a half mile south.

About Glen Morgan

I am a native Marylander, went to U of MD, work at the National Institutes of Health, and now live in Northern Virginia. My wife, Kim, & I LOVE Hatteras Island! I am an avid surfer & kiteboarder.

Glen Morgan purchased this house in 2006

Why Glen Morgan chose Hatteras Island

I became enamored with beach life while I was a lifeguard on Maryland's Assateague Island. Hatteras has always had that unique combination of being remote yet accessible.

What makes this house unique

Maestrale's location bordering the national seashore provides incredible vistas of the (and access to the) ocean, the Pamlico Sound, and the untouched/undeveloped part of the island. Kiteboard, SUP, Kayak & Fish - from the house.

Great house for relaxing - walk to private beach on sound and to ocean, too

  • 5 of 5

Great house, well-stocked kitchen. Sunrise from crows nest, sunset (in Sept) obscured by neighboring houses- should be visible in winter and summer, though. Good price for the area. Walk to a great little sandy beach on sound- perfect for kids and fishing. Bring bug spray- adjacent to park service land with deer, birds, and several varieties of mosquitos. Hatteras light seen at night- fun! Owner Glen very responsive and attentive. Hope to return soon...

Another wonderful stay at Maestrale!

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at Maestrale for our family of six. (Four adults, two children.) We were so impressed with the house and property at our initial visit in 2015, that it has become a tradition to rent the house from Glen for the last week in August. The location is wonderful and the layout of the house is ideal for us. It is nicely maintained and furnished. Beds, couches, chairs are very comfortable. The home is equipped with just the right amount of "essentials" and everything is in fine working order. Adults enjoyed having their morning coffee out on the deck, while the kids watched TV. A special bonus: we had a top notch view of the solar eclipse on the 21st from the rear deck and roof-line crow's nest. Maestrale is on a very quiet street, yet only a few minutes away from stores, shopping and a gas station. As the surf was a bit rough this year, we spent many hours enjoying the Kinnekeet Shores pool. We had wonderful lunches and dinners at several restaurants recommended by Glen: Bros, Gidgets, Oceanas to name a few. Glen responded very quickly (by either text, email or phone) when contacted during our stay. He provides very detailed information about the rental, area attractions and other points of interest. Memories of our stay at Maestrale (and the Outer Banks) help us endure the long, cold, snowy winters here in upstate NY. We look forward to returning in 2018!

Wonderful place and location

  • 5 of 5

My family thoroughly enjoyed staying at Maestrale. I enjoyed seeing the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse every morning from the house balcony. We rented stand up paddle boards and surf boards that we used on the Pamlico Sound and ocean. My dad getting a permit to drive on beach so he could fish. We also enjoyed fishing from the Avon Pier. The Avon Pier did a great job with the fireworks on July 4th. There were a variety of good restaurants close by to choose from. Our day trip to Ocracoke Island on the ferry was a lot of fun. I enjoyed touring the lighthouses in the Outer Banks. I loved the views from the house. I would recommend this house and location for anyone wanting a fun and relaxing beach vacation.

Awesome home and location and very well equipped

  • 5 of 5

This is my second time staying in this house, and this time was just as perfect as the last. I stayed with my husband's family last time, and this time my husband and I decided to stay again with friends! Maestrale was a great place to stay and very clean upon our arrival! It has plenty of windows to see the beautiful surrounding area, including the sound, where the sunset is amazing. You can catch a pretty good sunrise from the upper deck and you can steal a view of the ocean. My husband and I had our friends (family of three) stay with us, so the large dinner table was great to have for eating together and playing cards. The three bathrooms are a must have and they were also very clean. It is well equipped, and the beds are really comfortable. It's in a quiet neighborhood which we loved. It was also great to be a short walk from the beach, short driving distance from a Food Lion, and other local shops/restaurants. Glen, the property owner, is great to work with from beginning to end and we really appreciated everything and had an amazing time exploring.

Delightful home!

  • 5 of 5

Maestrale was a perfect vacation home for our two families. We especially enjoyed the short walk to the beach, watching kite boarding, and viewing beautiful sunrises over the ocean and sunsets over the sound from our deck. Maestrale has an open floor plan with plenty of windows, comfortable beds, large dinner table for meals or games, and is in a private, quiet neighborhood. Day excursions included taking the ferry to Ocracoke where several dolphins swam along side us, flipping and gracing us with awe and wonder. The unique shops and galleries in Ocracoke and Hatteras enabled us to find some Christmas gift treasures for our family and friends. Lastly, we had genuine respect and exceptional responsiveness throughout our booking and stay from Glen, the property owner.
