About the property

2 bdrm., 1 ba. with a sleeping loft on the shores of Pike Lake in Grand Marais!

Follow the North Shore of Lake Superior into the "Coolest Small Town in America", Grand Marais, MN! Pike Lake sits just a few miles north of downtown Grand Marais. You'll be 20 minutes to food, beverage, dining, shopping and the Big Lake but still far enough away to enjoy the solitude this wonderful lakeshore cabin offers. Paddle the day away, sit on the front deck and do nothing but relax, have a warming bonfire at night and watch the stars and night sky. You pick!! That's the beauty of a lakeshore cabin, right? There is a toasty woodburning stove inside the cabin, too, if you need to move the fun and relaxation indoors. There is one bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom on the main level along with two twin beds in the sleeping loft. Enjoy the fully outfitted kitchen, the soft and fluffy linens/towels, the convenient toiletries provided (eco-friendly/organic shampoo/conditioner/shower gel), the Weber grill (don't forget your charcoal) and everything else offered. Feel free to bring your own boat along, too, if you wish, and park it at the dock. So much to do--just need to pick the dates!

Blake and Steph, the cabin owners, are the co-founders/directors of Positive Energy Outdoors, a Duluth based 501(c)3 not-for-profit outdoor education organization. By staying at our Pike Lake Peninsula cabin, you are helping support outdoor programs for kids as we begin an expansion of programming to Grand Marais. You can also make reservations for guided Lake Superior kayak tours, dog sledding, rock or ice climbing or a horse drawn sleigh ride before or after your stay in Grand Marais when you drive through Duluth to the cabin. Visit PEO's website at to learn more about our tours and activities for adults and groups that support our important programs for kids.

Why Linda Garrity chose Northeast

Blake, Ansel and I are happy you are choosing to stay on Pike Lake at our new cabin! Blake and I are the co-founding directors of Positive Energy Outdoors, an outdoor education not-for-profit based in Duluth, MN. When you stay at our Pike Lake cabin, a portion of the rental proceeds help low-income children participate in activities like dog sledding, kayaking, rock climbing, day camps and our after school Adventure Club program. Our hope is that the rental revenue of 185 N. Pike Lake Road will help us get after school and summer programming started in Grand Marais, where there is a huge need for child care. And we hope you'll join us on an adventure with Positive Energy Outdoors--dog sledding, kayaking, rock or ice climbing (our favorite spot on the Cascade River for ice climbing is just 10 minutes from Pike Lake), or paddling our 12 passenger Voyageur canoes. Our website is, and you can find more information about us in the cabin.

Thanks for visiting we'll see you outside!

Steph Love, Blake Cazier and Ansel

Not the best

  • 1 of 5

The location was great for being on the lake and nice scenery. Cabin needs some TLC. No cable tv or any satellite worked. Wifi was good. Screen door had a broken rod when we arrived. The cabin smelled like lp and sewer gas. We turned the gas off to the furnace for safety, not sure where the smell was coming from. Toilet didn't flush well. No lighter for the fireplace. Not very clean. Shower was gross and moldy. Rugs were dirty. The driveway had huge ruts in it full of water. Bring your 4wheel drive! We spent most of our time off the property.

Owner's Response: It is beyond disappointing to read your review. I certainly wish you would have contacted us upon your arrival...especially about any propane odors. We've yet to receive any of the information you included in your review and we are completely sorry that you did not enjoy the property. Our instructions indicate that the roads in are gravel and when it rains they can become rutty and muddy. Not much we can do about that given all of the rain we've had lately. Cable/satellite TV is not advertised as included with this property but there is a television in place to stream channels or play movies. As far as not being "very clean"...we've contacted the caretakers and future guests will not have to be concerned about such factors.

Property Description 99.5% Correct

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. Literally, when you run out of road, you’re there. The property is exactly as described with one minor interpretation issue. When a cursor is placed over the “Television …”, a balloon description appears and says, “Stream your own shows, bring your own DVDs. We provide the TV but not the programming.” There is no Wi-Fi internet. To be fair, internet access is not mentioned anywhere in the description. Texting worked well (Verizon), and 4G LTE was accessed predictably in the loft, so I guess you can “stream” using data access. Fishing from the dock and shore worked for us (caught some small ones), heard a few loons and swatted a few (ok, many) mosquitos. While we were there on Thursday and Friday, the Lake was never busy. As mentioned on the website, the drive into Grand Marais is quick (20 minutes) and easy and Grand Marais has anything you may have forgotten to bring. Overall, these are good, secluded accommodations of which I was satisfied.

Owner's Response: Thank you for submitting your review. Pleaase know that the wi-fi company made it out to install high-speed internet shortly after your stay. We wish it would've been possible to have it in place for you but we are at the mercy of the installers! So happy that you had a good time and hope that you'll come back again.
