The Manor
The Hewletts is an exquisite Georgian country house, boasting a Grade II listing due to its architectural significance and once part of the Southam estate owned by the De La Bere family of Herefordshire. This remarkable property was primarily built in the mid-18th century, although it has earlier roots, and is situated in a commanding location atop Aggs Hill.
As you enter the estate through the sweeping drive, guests enjoy this breath-taking panoramic views over its own beautiful parkland grounds, of Cheltenham to the Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains of Wales.
The Georgian architecture of this house is known for its inviting and welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal entertaining space. It offers a wide range of comfortable living spaces that are perfectly balanced for both family stays and entertaining. Unlike many other country houses in the Cotswolds, The Hewletts stands out with its large sash windows that fill the rooms with natural light and provide enchanting views for its guests.
Stone steps ascend to the entrance of the house, leading to a reception hall adorned with a magnificent 18th-century staircase. On either side of the staircase, you will find the drawing room and dining room, both exuding elegance and the high ceilings filled with natural light.
The billiard room and family room, although smaller, offer a more intimate atmosphere. The drawing room is a marvellously elegant space, illuminated by its south-facing sash windows and a French window that opens onto the terrace and gardens to the south.
Adjacent to the reception hall, the study/library is a cosy room of more intimate dimensions. It offers a fireplace and fitted bookshelves, providing a tranquil space for reading and study.
The kitchen and breakfast room is meticulously designed, featuring a bespoke fitted kitchen, a large-slab flagstone floor, a 4-oven electric AGA, and a well-stocked larder. From the kitchen, glazed doors lead to a central courtyard seating area, offering a sheltered space at the rear of the house.
Steps from this area provide access to the walled garden and garden stores. At the opposite end of the kitchen, you will find a splendid orangery with doors that open onto the lawns on the southern side of the house.
Situated centrally within the house, just off the kitchen, is a family room with a fireplace and a log-burning stove. This room also grants access to the rear hall. The rear hall leads to the north wing, where you will discover an excellent games room and bar, perfect for entertaining family and friends in style.
Completing the ground floor accommodation, there is a cloakroom, boot room, and a well-appointed laundry room.
