AMORE RENTALS - Villa Margherita with Sea View and Swimming Pool
Walk into Amalfi town from this unique historic villa with extraordinary original features, sea view terraces and outdoor heated mini stone swimming pool with 3 hydromassage jets and waterfall
If you’re looking for complete immersion in the enchanting atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast, welcome to Villa Margherita. Set amidst lemon-scented slopes, the villa clings to the hillside above a string of pocket-sized beaches, with dazzling views over olive groves and vineyard-swathed hillsides, down to the glittering blue water. Despite its scenic location, Villa Margherita is conveniently situated just 900m from Amalfi town.
Drink in the astonishing views from the picturesque stone jacuzzi, and enjoy alfresco dining on the terraces, with some of the best views in town. A long, narrow terrace also connects the three bedrooms.
Beautifully restored to retain romantic vaulted ceilings, ancient beams and original crafted plaster walls, the interiors of the villa are equally extraordinary. Bathrooms feature exquisite tiling and travertine basins, and the bedrooms and dining area are home to some remarkable antique furniture. Set on the first floor of a house, the villa has two entrances: one at the west leading into a small study/living area with a kitchenette, and at the east, the ‘blue entrance’ to the oldest part of the house, with a second kitchenette and a beautiful chestnut wood dining table.
Numerous period features have been preserved at the villa which is characterized by elegant simplicity and traditional construction techniques. These include lunette, barrel and ogival vaulted ceilings; original restored wooden architraves and doors; and slightly uneven stone and plaster walls, made with local lime, pumice and red earth, and created with traditional mortars using methods gained from a thousand years of masonry art. Other historic highlights include ceiling vaults covered with ancient lime and pumice; blue/green plastering in some areas – partly original, partly restored over the course of the years. The effect of this in the western entrance is that guests have a mental image of the sea in the only room where it is not actually visible.
The minimalist décor and furnishing are thanks to the work of the best local artisans.
THE BLUE ENTRANCE, accessible from the CIELO (Sky) and SOLE (Sunshine) bedrooms, are characterised by irregular plastering and light blue/green finishes, some of which are original. These too were restored by specialist restorers/decorators Franco De Stefano and Michele Pontillo.
Here there’s an 18th century chestnut refectory table and kitchen corner with antique ‘riggiole’ style ceramic worktop, plus a travertine sink, induction hob and fridge with drawers.
