About the Property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

Base your vacation from OLDE POSTE COTTAGE -- site of Cascade's old post office in the heart of historic Cascade, at the foot of the Pike's Peak Highway. This Victorian cottage, restored and furnished to reflect its genteel past, will return you to an earlier time in Cascade's history when folks came up Ute Pass to vacation among the mountain Ponderosa, away from the bussle of city life. The livingroom walls display prints and photos of Cascade and Olde Poste Cottage from the Ute Pass Historical Society, as well as chronicling the drama of the American Post from the Revolution, through the exciting Pony Express, to the color and charm of the stamps and postcards found in today's U.S. Post Office. The cottage's bedrooms are lovingly decorated to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Perfect for four adults and up to three kids, or three couples, this historical Victorian cottage will be your headquarters for both summer and winter activities in the Manitou/Colorado Springs and the Pike's Peak region. (see the AREA ACTIVITIES' button on our Happy Trails webpage for great links and discount coupons).

The Cottage is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. You'll want to return again and again!

'Thanks for providing us such a lovely place to stay! We had everything we needed (the wireless is a huge plus) and best of all, a comfortable place to 'come home' after a day of adventure. Looking forward to seeing you next time we are in the area. God willing!' MARYANNE (on behalf of everyone in our families), Ronkonkoma, NY & Houston, TX

'What a lovely home! We had a great time over Parent's Weekend (our son is in his third year at the Air Force Academy). The amenities of the cottage gave me the chance to 'spoil him' with a few home-cooked meals and I even made cinnamon rolls from SCRATCH! As always, time has gone so quickly! The memories and pictures of lovely late summer in Colorado will be cherished ones.' Ft Wayne, IN

'What a great place for a Christmas Vacation. Your hospitality was wonderful and the Olde Poste worked out great for our family. Location could not have been better...a full week of excitement - all within 10 miles.' JASON & FAMILY, Tomball, TX

'The Poste Cottage is adorable! With three young boys in our group, this was a solid arrangement.' ANN M, Washington, DC

'Great time! Very comfortable home - great location, central to everything we wanted to see and visit. The Pantry Restaurant was out of this world! Garden of the Gods was spectacular. Pikes Peak Highway was so much fun! Casa Grande Mexican food in Woodland Park was yummy! We'll be back in the fall.' Ho-Sing-Lay Family, Lyman, NH

'We were here for USAFA graduation. We are so proud of our graduate. Thank you for providing us a cute house for us to stay. The kids really enjoyed the back room. Also, loved playing horseshoes and exploring the back yard. Thanks again!' Hansens & Lymans, South Elgin, IL

'We love the Olde Poste Cottage! It was so much more cozy and warm than any hotel! It was fantastic being able to cook meals for the whole family. Can't find a better location; we were never in the car too long on our way to touristy stuff. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family to make memories in.' Wegers, Magallons & Brantleys - TX & FL
“We had an AWESOME time on our vacation! The cottage was a perfect home-away-from-home. The location here is excellent and the owners were very helpful (yes, we tried the hike at Crags!) and attentive. We grilled out twice during our stay and enjoyed meals at “home” each night of our stay. We loved the attractions too – Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway, Seven Falls. Also went horseback riding and whitewater rafting with Noah’s Ark in Buena Vista, and saw Royal Gorge and Molly Kathleen Mine in Cripple Creek. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!” Matt & Martha Cummings & Family – Memphis, TN

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: George and Lynn are not Colorado natives, but this is Home. George first came to Colorado to attend the USAF Academy in 1965. After graduation he was briefly stationed in Colorado as a young Intelligence officer prior to his assignment to Korea. After Korea and training in counter-insurgency, George served in Southeast Asia. His next assignment was in Hawaii where he met and married Lynn, who had been teaching at the University of Hawaii. A son and daughter soon rounded out their ohana. In 1978, a visit with friends in Colorado convinced them that this was eventually to be their permanent home. 14 years later, after living overseas, experiencing many cultures, and watching the Soviet empire fall, they finally made it to Colorado! They originally bought their Woodland Park and Cascade houses in 2002 as long-term rentals, but found that converting them to comfortable refuges for vacationers offered them better opportunities to meet and interact with great families from all over the world. George is now retired; he and Lynn have raised and shown some wonderful Bernese Mountain Dogs, in addition to having the honor and pleasure of hosting many visitors to our corner of paradise.
