Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

Base your vacation from OLDE POSTE COTTAGE -- site of Cascade's old post office in the heart of historic Cascade, at the foot of the Pike's Peak Highway. This Victorian cottage, restored and furnished to reflect its genteel past, will return you to an earlier time in Cascade's history when folks came up Ute Pass to vacation among the mountain Ponderosa, away from the bussle of city life. The livingroom walls display prints and photos of Cascade and Olde Poste Cottage from the Ute Pass Historical Society, as well as chronicling the drama of the American Post from the Revolution, through the exciting Pony Express, to the color and charm of the stamps and postcards found in today's U.S. Post Office. The cottage's bedrooms are lovingly decorated to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Perfect for four adults and up to three kids, or three couples, this historical Victorian cottage will be your headquarters for both summer and winter activities in the Manitou/Colorado Springs and the Pike's Peak region. (see the AREA ACTIVITIES' button on our Happy Trails webpage for great links and discount coupons).

The Cottage is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. You'll want to return again and again!

'We love the Olde Poste Cottage! It was so much more cozy and warm than any hotel! It was fantastic being able to cook meals for the whole family. Can't find a better location; we were never in the car too long on our way to touristy stuff. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family to make memories in.' Wegers, Magallons & Brantleys - TX & FL

“We had an AWESOME time on our vacation! The cottage was a perfect home-away-from-home. The location here is excellent and the owners were very helpful (yes, we tried the hike at Crags!) and attentive. We grilled out twice during our stay and enjoyed meals at “home” each night of our stay. We loved the attractions too – Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway, Seven Falls. Also went horseback riding and whitewater rafting with Noah’s Ark in Buena Vista, and saw Royal Gorge and Molly Kathleen Mine in Cripple Creek. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!” Matt & Martha Cummings & Family – Memphis, TN

About George and Lynn Wood

George and Lynn are not Colorado natives, but this is Home. George first came to Colorado to attend the USAF Academy in 1965. After graduation he was briefly stationed in Colorado as a young Intelligence officer prior to his assignment to Korea. After Korea and training in counter-insurgency, George served in Southeast Asia. His next assignment was in Hawaii where he met and married Lynn, who had been teaching at the University of Hawaii. A son and daughter soon rounded out their ohana. In 1978, a visit with friends in Colorado convinced them that this was eventually to be their permanent home. 14 years later, after living overseas, experiencing many cultures, and watching the Soviet empire fall, they finally made it to Colorado! They originally bought their Woodland Park and Cascade houses in 2002 as long-term rentals, but found that converting them to comfortable refuges for vacationers offered them better opportunities to meet and interact with great families from all over the world. George is now retired; he and Lynn have raised and shown some wonderful Bernese Mountain Dogs, in addition to having the honor and pleasure of hosting many visitors to our corner of paradise.

George and Lynn Wood purchased this house in 2002

Guestbook comments from the owner

(from Guestbook) "This is a fantastic little place! Every year we visit Colorado for the Hill Climb and this is the first time we’ve stayed at the Olde Poste. During our stay this year we enjoyed breakfast each day in the house as well as a lunch and dinner. VERY HOMEY! Olde Poste is a great location for tons of awesome sight-seeing! We recommend Boriello Brothers Pizza (on Platte) to anyone who needs a break from cooking. We’ll return to Olde Poste again! Wonderful vacation!"

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay! Nice little cottage in a great location with access to everything! Stayed here while I was working a contract job in the Springs, it has everything you would need including a washer/dryer combo and even a place to park my enclosed trailer! Owners George and Lynn are very nice and will do anything for you to make your stay a great experience!

Olde Poste

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this historic home. It had adorable furnishings, just like a grandmother's house. Everything there made our stay comfortable. The location was ideal, close to both Colorado Springs and the mountains past Woodlands Park.

Cozy house perfect for spending time together in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Our son is a doolie at the US Air Force Academy, and this was our first Parent's Weekend. We were able to be with our son over 5 days, including 3 days where he could leave campus and stay with us. My mother joined us for the trip, so we knew we wanted something much different than a couple of hotel bedrooms. We wanted to be able to be together, yet allow our son time to go off on his own. As a doolie, he would need to get in full dress uniform to go out, so we knew we wanted to mostly stay in. The house was perfect for this, with a small but functional kitchen, a small dining table in the living space with a couch and chair and TV. We played cards, we read books, and we even watched several Harry Potter movies much to the delight of our son. The 3 separate bedrooms allowed our son to chill by himself when he needed, and yet join us when he wanted to be part of the family. The small washer/dryer combination came in handy as it allowed us to wash all his clothes, something that is not easy for a doolie.

The house is an easy 35 minute drive to the USAFA campus, and only 15 minutes from the heart of Colorado Springs. It is in a beautiful setting with mountain views in all directions. It is right off the highway, so the road noise is very noticeable. But we weren't bothered by that much, and were able to leave the front door open frequently without any issue. The house is in good repair for something more than 100 years old. The WiFi is fast enough to stream movies. The furnishings are eclectic but functional and comfortable.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and it was exactly right for our purposes.

Great Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to take our 5 young adult children for a quick getaway before they all get back to college - this cottage was perfect for us. Your hospitality was amazing! Can't say thank you enough for this property being available for us to use, we don't like staying in hotels, and our kids loved the feeling of being at 'home' after a day out on the trails. Thanks again for helping us make some memories with our family!

Close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us and we loved our stay at the Olde Poste in Cascade. It is very close to The North Pole, Pikes Peak, Cave of the Winds and Downtown Manitou Springs. The owners provided everything that we needed. It was wonderful having a washer and dryer and being able to cook a meal. We will definitely stay here again!
