Base your vacation from OLDE POSTE COTTAGE -- site of Cascade's old post office in the heart of historic Cascade, at the foot of the Pike's Peak Highway. This Victorian cottage, restored and furnished to reflect its genteel past, will return you to an earlier time in Cascade's history when folks came up Ute Pass to vacation among the mountain Ponderosa, away from the bussle of city life. The livingroom walls display prints and photos of Cascade and Olde Poste Cottage from the Ute Pass Historical Society, as well as chronicling the drama of the American Post from the Revolution, through the exciting Pony Express, to the color and charm of the stamps and postcards found in today's U.S. Post Office. The cottage's bedrooms are lovingly decorated to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
Perfect for four adults and up to three kids, or three couples, this historical Victorian cottage will be your headquarters for both summer and winter activities in the Manitou/Colorado Springs and the Pike's Peak region. (see the AREA ACTIVITIES' button on our Happy Trails webpage for great links and discount coupons).
The Cottage is completely furnished with everything you need to be comfortable on your vacation. You'll want to return again and again!

'What a lovely home! We had a great time over Parent's Weekend (our son is in his third year at the Air Force Academy). The amenities of the cottage gave me the chance to 'spoil him' with a few home-cooked meals and I even made cinnamon rolls from SCRATCH! As always, time has gone so quickly! The memories and pictures of lovely late summer in Colorado will be cherished ones.' Ft Wayne, IN

'We love the Olde Poste Cottage! It was so much more cozy and warm than any hotel! It was fantastic being able to cook meals for the whole family. Can't find a better location; we were never in the car too long on our way to touristy stuff. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family to make memories in.' Wegers, Magallons & Brantleys - TX & FL
“We had an AWESOME time on our vacation! The cottage was a perfect home-away-from-home. The location here is excellent and the owners were very helpful (yes, we tried the hike at Crags!) and attentive. We grilled out twice during our stay and enjoyed meals at “home” each night of our stay. We loved the attractions too – Garden of the Gods, Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway, Seven Falls. Also went horseback riding and whitewater rafting with Noah’s Ark in Buena Vista, and saw Royal Gorge and Molly Kathleen Mine in Cripple Creek. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!!” Matt & Martha Cummings & Family – Memphis, TN

George and Lynn are not Colorado natives, but this is Home. George first came to Colorado to attend the USAF Academy in 1965. After graduation he was briefly stationed in Colorado as a young Intelligence officer prior to his assignment to Korea. After Korea and training in counter-insurgency, George served in Southeast Asia. His next assignment was in Hawaii where he met and married Lynn, who had been teaching at the University of Hawaii. A son and daughter soon rounded out their ohana. In 1978, a visit with friends in Colorado convinced them that this was eventually to be their permanent home. 14 years later, after living overseas, experiencing many cultures, and watching the Soviet empire fall, they finally made it to Colorado! They originally bought their Woodland Park and Cascade houses in 2002 as long-term rentals, but found that converting them to comfortable refuges for vacationers offered them better opportunities to meet and interact with great families from all over the world. George is now retired; he and Lynn have raised and shown some wonderful Bernese Mountain Dogs, in addition to having the honor and pleasure of hosting many visitors to our corner of paradise.
George and Lynn Wood purchased this house in 2002
(from Guestbook) "This is a fantastic little place! Every year we visit Colorado for the Hill Climb and this is the first time we’ve stayed at the Olde Poste. During our stay this year we enjoyed breakfast each day in the house as well as a lunch and dinner. VERY HOMEY! Olde Poste is a great location for tons of awesome sight-seeing! We recommend Boriello Brothers Pizza (on Platte) to anyone who needs a break from cooking. We’ll return to Olde Poste again! Wonderful vacation!"
We found our stay at the Olde Poste to very comfortable and a perfect location to explore the Pikes Peak area attractions. The cottage was a perfect alternative to a motel with all the comforts of home including a washer and dryer. The cottage is warm and cozy and met our needs perfectly.
Great home. Very comfortable, great location, central to everything we wanted to see and visit. The Pantry Restaurant is out of this world! Garden of the Gods was spectacular, Pikes Peak Highway was so much fun, Casa Grande Mexican food in Woodland Park was yummy! We’ll be back in the fall! Thank you
We found our stay in cascade ranger station and the old poste to be very relaxing and cozy. Truly just like going to grandparents house. Everything was clean in its place and waiting for us at check in. Even nice little extras like soaps etc. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We had easy access off of highway and was a good location for exploring manitou springs, pikes peak, garden of the gods, and beautiful drives up the mountain. Would recommend to anyone who is going to Colorado Springs area. GREAT bargain!
The cottage was convenient to the many attractions of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs like Garden of the Gods, 7 Falls, Cliff Dwellings, and Pike's Peak. It also provided easy access to the Cripple Creek area. However, the close proximity of highway 24 made it rather noisy. The cottage itself was clean, cute and furnished in period pieces with many of the conveniences of home, including the washer & dryer, bbq grill, and even condiments. It could use some TLC to make it a better experience.
We had to cancel our trip at the last minute due to a serious medical emergency. Thankfully we had purchased the trip insurance (only $39 and reimburses full cost of rental) through VRBO. When I called George, he was absolutely wonderful in discussing the situation, explaining how the deposit would be automatically refunded, and showing sincere compassion for our situation. Above and beyond "excellent customer service" - it felt like we were calling old friends. We will definitely book with them in the future and look forward to meeting these genuine and caring people in person.
We were grateful for the price of the cabin but disappointed in the history of the cabin and the up keep of the cabin. In regards to the history of the cabin we were under the impression we would be in the historical old post office with information about the old post office. All we noticed were two pictures on the living room wall. One picture with stamps and the other of a woman standing by the post office. As far as the cleanliness. We suggest a hard floor with a rug in the living room as this is also part of the dining room. We were surprised to find the carpet dirty and stained in the living/dining room. This also extended into the bedroom too. Each time I picked up something off the floor I picked up long black hair with it. It was hard for me and my family to relax and to feel comfortable in the home because the home had the feeling of being dirty. On the positive note the bathroom was clean and for the most part, the kitchen was clean too. You might add rail to the inside of your freezer door instead of a rusted wire for holding groceries. We were glad to have a place to stay and enjoy our time in the mountains. The owner was apologetic for the dirty carpet. It would had been nice to have been offered another clean rental to stay in. It was nice to be close to all the attraction in and by Colorado Springs. It does not have a country view. You have the view of the new post office, street and another cabin from the porch with mountains in the background.
Centrally located to attractions: 8 minutes down Ute Pass from Woodland Park, 5 minutes up from Manitou Springs and 10 minutes from Colorado Springs. 1.2 miles to Pikes Peak Toll booth: 9 miles drive to the top of Pikes Peak on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb highway Visit Santa's Workshop and the North Pole, take the Pikes Peak Highway to Catamount Lake or all the way to the Pike's Peak Summit. (See the Area Activities button on our website for a comprehensive page of links to Pike's Peak regional activities).
