About this property
Large peaceful farmhouse with pool and big garden in beautiful Saint Andrews
Seeking a relaxed, multi-generational holiday by the sea in North America? Peacock Farm, our six bedroom family house with a pool awaits you.
Saint Andrews by-the-Sea enjoys an enviable location on the northern shores of Passamaquoddy Bay, close to the Canadian-US border within 90 minutes of two local airports and only 6 hours from Boston or Montreal. It has been one of Canada’s most charming seaside resort towns since the late 19th century.
Our family has been holidaying there for six generations and we are making our family house available for rent. With five double bedrooms (two with king beds and en suite) and a twin room, substantial cooking and relaxing space both inside (two kitchens) and outside and a full size pool and mature garden, we have enjoyed many three generational holidays here. As an enthusiastic grandmother, who also loves peace and quiet, I promise that the configuration works well for families to be together – but also enjoy separate spaces.
The house accommodates one large group, or two families generously, with the bedrooms dividing across 2 sides of the house. The main house has two king size bedrooms, individually decorated, which offer calm spaces to escape to. Each of these bedrooms also have ensuites, with both tubs and showers. In addition, there are two further bedrooms in the main house, one a large double and the other a twin, which share a family bathroom. The annexe, connected to the main house by the kitchen, has its own smaller kitchen – perfect for early cups of tea for adults or late night drinks for teenagers – as well as two large quiet double rooms and a shared bathroom.
The well equipped main kitchen is open to a large sitting room with two sets of double doors directly to the pool area and enclosed garden/patio space with BBQ and a separate pool house with shower and loo.
For those seeking quiet away from the excitement of the pool, there is a separate enclosed sitting room which offers a peaceful view of the garden with an open fire as well as a desk and chair for working. I also like to sit on the patio outside the front door which overs a view of the ocean through the trees.
Five minutes drive from the house, or a pleasant 20 minute walk along the sea road, brings you to the centre of town. St. Andrews is the gateway to the Bay of Fundy, famed for having the highest tides on Earth, it is a wonderful place to see humpback, minke and finback whales as well as seals, porpoises and sea birds. As well as whale watching, sailing, deep sea fishing, sea kayaking and stand up paddleboarding are all available. The own also boasts a multi-award winning golf course with incredible views and Canada’s oldest club house. The town itself has a large number of historic buildings, many of which have been turned into excellent restaurants, interesting coffee shops and local boutiques.
Come for a couple of weeks in the summer holidays, for a white Christmas by the sea, or for peaceful weeks of walking, birding, or golfing as summer turns into autumn. St Andrews is a peaceful, charming place which offers the ideal respite from the pace and noise of the modern world – while still providing the considerable home comforts which we all enjoy.
