Overview

About the property

Wood Thrush Cove is a peaceful nature inspired mountain getaway where you can immerse yourself in our quiet spectacular mountains. This Wood Thrush Cove property will delight you with the lovely sound of birds and other native creatures that call WNC home. Everyone of our 4 seasons shows itself in full glory. Let us share our passion with you, from our organic blackberries in season to the local farm fresh free range eggs provided in your fridge. (available most of the time)

A fully equipped gourmet kitchen with many new items for your enjoyment await you. A powerful Camp Chef grill on our 12x24 ft. covered porch has the propane provided for you. There are 3 blankets per bed: a light summer cotton blanket, an allergy free warm duvet, and a medium weight quilt all on beds that are allergen and bed bug protected.

Our home is centrally heated and air-conditioned for your comfort and convenience. There is also a new Jotul gas log stove with a hand made hearth surround to warm you on chilly nights. The windows are plentiful if you care to enjoy our wonderful cool mountain nights in the summer.

There is a fire pit for reasonable sized fires in the field which is away from the woods and house. We provide the firewood. We ask that you take care and responsible use of the fire thus insuring the fire is out when you leave. Our well water is exceptionally good, really a tasty mineral water. The best is straight from the tap! Our new on demand hot water system supplies the kitchen and master bath. Please be patient, the hot water takes a minute to get there from the laundry room.

In general, please respect the natural environment here. It's common to see threatened box turtles in the road or garden, and we can have black bears though infrequently.

Smoking is permited only outside and away from the house, not on or near the porches. I'm sure you will find this home a comfortable and serene place to vacation.

Guest access: Your floor of our home is 2200 square feet of lovely space. The large porch off the living room feels like an additional outside protected room to enjoy. We are 15 miles from West Asheville with all it's restaurants and entertainment, about 25 minutes drive. A couple more miles will bring you to downtown with another 5 minutes.

My husband John and I live in the lower floor of the home. It has a separate driveway, entrance and full facilities. We are here much of the time to assist you with any need you may have and will fully respect your privacy at all times. Please contact us if you have laundry needs so we can help you with the facility on your floor. An ironing board and iron are provided in the master bedroom.

Any car can easily navigate our driveway. It is well maintained and graveled.

There is so much to do in our area that it's hard to know where to start. Tourism is our biggest industry in Asheville and has been for many years. From the National and State Parks, to mountain biking, hiking and fishing and all the possibilities of the out of doors you should not fall short of adventures! When you include the cultural attractions and night life of Asheville, you can have it all.

Why john hupertz chose Leicester

We built and designed this large house ourselves with our own hands and skills after having first purchased the land. In the last year this home has had a makeover with new roof, gutters, paint inside and out. Freshly refinished wood floors gleam, the new master bedroom is filled with light from all the windows and a breeze of cross ventilation. The master bath is rich with hand made tiles, a 2 person jacuzzi, and mahogany cabinets. The house is decorated with lovely new furniture, and there are plenty of new gadgets and supplies in the kitchen. Please enjoy our pictures!

What makes this house unique

We have a nice fire pit that we supply with wood for your enjoyment. Looking up at the sky at night while relaxing around the fire you will have a great view of the stars because we don't have pole lights. Our spacious covered front porch is protected on 3 sides, and feels like an outdoor room. There is a large sofa with lots of cushions, and 3 more chairs. You will also find a table for 6 and a high power Camp Grill for your outdoor cooking needs.

Our home is entirely unique and comphortable and generously sized. There are many opportunities to enjoy hiking or relaxing around our home, or picking our organic blackberries inseason. We have large landscaped flower beds that are bordered by a many feet long dry stacked stone wall. You may stroll the yard and gardens, sit on the perfect height rock wall and sip your afternoon drink.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time here with family over Thanksgiving. The kitchen setup was fabulous and there was plenty of space for our large family to gather comfortably. John & Madison are truly exceptional hosts who thought of every detail, including fixings for breakfast! They even went above & beyond with accomodations for a disabled family member. The secluded location offered amazing views of the stars at night, and a peacefulness that is worth the drive. Beautiful home & wonderful hosts — we plan to return!

Owner's Response: John and I could not have better renters! Very clean, respectful, considerate, communicative, appreciative and delightful with a sense of humor! This is what we are building for our business. Everyone should enjoy themselves and be happy so it's a winning time for all concerned. It is our intention to make our rental exceptional and draw exceptional people . Denise and her family are the best example of the visitors anyone would be fortunate to have. Thanks so much to all your family.

Wonderful hosts - Great property.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying here. John and Madison couldn't have been better hosts, and were always available to provide suggestions on local attractions. The location is within easy driving distance to many places, but our favorites were the Biltmore Estate and the Linville Caverns.

The custom built home was spotless, beautifully decorated, and well appointed with comfortable furniture and beds. From the chocolates left for us, to the wide variety of books in the library, and of course the soft, fluffy towels, we felt right at home from the moment we arrived. We were pleased to find the kitchen well stocked with every appliance and utensil we would have at home, as well as (local) fresh eggs, creamer, jam, coffee, fresh bread, etc.

Our kids loved seeing the rabbits, wild turkeys, fireflies and tons of stars (which unfortunately we don't see much of near home). John and Madison even built a fire for our family to roast marshmallows and make smores.

We had such a great time staying here as it was not only peaceful and in a great mountain location, but close enough to town to enjoy local dining and sightseeing. We would absolutely recommend a stay here. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

What a exceptional welcome, from fresh cut flowers, chocolates and gourmet coffee! Farm fresh eggs and accompaniments to match. John and Madison were a delight! The house is beautiful and so very welcoming, tucked away and nestled on a hill in a beautiful wooded area.

We were treated to a set up fire pit for a relaxing evening! This was just what my family needed for our last hooray as we become empty nesters.

Top notch all the way! For our first VRBO....others have huge shoes to fill!

Owner's Response: Bettina, Your family is a delight! You have obviously done a wonderful job raising the kids, as they've grown into responsible, kind and aware adults, which is no small achievement. It is our joy to host a family like yours and provide the setting for a memorable time together. What a treat to be a part of other people's good memories! John and I hope to see you again, and wish everyone a happy and eventful life as they mature and grow. Our best to you and your husband as well. regards, Madison and John

peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful property! The house is meticulously maintained and has everything we needed for our 4 day stay. The gas log woodstove was especially cozy and we used it every day since it was quite cold out.The house was very comfortable and artfully decorated. The owners are artists and their personal touches, such as the tilework in the shower and the marble, tile and wood surround by the woodstove were absolutely exquisite. If it had been warmer, we would have enjoyed using the covered porch. The only downside was that with my AT&T cell phone, I had no coverage;however, the owners have verizon and report that their cell reception is fine. Asheville is an easy drive, about 20-25 min, so this is a perfect place if you want peace and quiet but don't want to be too far away . We stayed here with another couple and had plenty of privacy. I would highly recommend this beautiful house, and will keep it on my list of properties to come back to in the future!

Owner's Response: Thank you Maria, You and your friends were a delight! I love people who love books and nature. While it is true that AT&T doesn't work well here, Verizon and US Cellular work just fine and we have internet service. The mountains often block transmissions that can be a little inconvienent for those used to continual service. It's just a part of being away from the big cities. The wonderful mountains that embrace our community have kept out the track housing and other crowded developments so we can instead enjoy fresh clean air, wonderful quality water to drink, low crime rate and quiet along with a spactular view of the stars on a clear night. You can really experience nature by going for a hike or just sitting on the porch. I hope that you will come back again in warmer weather when you can sit by our bon fire, see the stars and enjoy more of our local activities as there is so much to do here! I especially appreciate your written French message, I feel we are in a special corner of paradise!

Owner's Response: The Morrison family were great! Absolutely quiet, clean and well mannered. Any VRBO should be happy to have these people as guests. I was a bit under the weather when they arrived so my husband did the introductions. Mr. Morrison, I believe your phone charger should be arriving in the mail shortly. A sweet family to be enjoyed.
