Built just after the Civil War, the Ice House is a three bedroom house located in Ross Alley in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria. The Ice House has been completely renovated to include a recent kitchen remodel. Pets are welcome at the Ice House!
Because it was built in the 19th century as a warehouse, the Ice House is unusually wide for Old Town and provides an open and spacious living space that is perfect for families (compare to other local options). Upstairs on the second floor is a fully stocked modern kitchen with plates and silverware for 12 people. A Keurig, Nespresso and a Chemex provide a multitude of options for coffee (and there is a Starbucks only 400 feet away). Sub-Zero refrigerator and Miele dishwasher are consistent with the level of finishes in this house.
An especially large and deep couch provides plenty of seating for watching movies or television. Because the main living room has a "flounder" roof, it gets wonderful light and it perfect for lounging after a day of visiting the many local historic sites.
Further upstairs is a roof deck with a gas grill, chaise lounges and seating for al fresco dining and relaxation.
Downstairs, the largest bedroom has a king bed (Tempur-Pedic mattress), while the second bedroom has a beautiful antique queen bed (Tempur-Pedic mattress), and the third bedroom contains a full-sized hide-a-bed. There is also a very large and deep couch in the upstairs family room that could be utilized as a bed. The bed linens are by Boll & Branch.
There is a full bathroom downstairs and a half bathroom upstairs.
This property has a walkscore of 99! A bikescore of 87! You are just steps from the corner of King and Washington - arguably this is the closest residential property from this hub of Old Town activity - but the Ice House is hidden in a quiet alley away from the bustle of King Street. Hop on the free shuttle up to the King Street Metro to head to DC. Or take the water taxi just five blocks south at the base of Cameron Street. The water taxi goes to the Wharf, National Harbor (gambling and shopping), and the National's stadium (during the season). The Ice House is just 3 miles from Washington Reagan National Airport and 2 miles across the bridge from the Gaylord National Harbor.
The Mount Vernon trail is so close and nothing beats a bike ride up or down the Potomac along a protected bike path maintained by the National Parks Service.
While other locations in Old Town may claim to be central, this is it! You can walk to close to 100 restaurants from the Ice House. Walgreens and CVS are just steps away. And there are 5 grocery stores within walking distance, including a Trader Joes, Harris Teeter, Balduccis, Safeway, and a Whole Foods. The Saturday farmer's market is only two blocks away.
Please inquire about parking. There is no parking space at the Ice House, but there is a self-park City parking lot just 250 feet away ($10 a day on weekdays and $5 on weekends).
There is an additional charge for parties of adults of 5 or greater; there is no additional charge for children.
