Mediterranean Magic

Bedrooms 1
Space 775 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-4)

This superbly renovated and decorated stone house with roof terrace in a pretty wine growing village about 50 minutes from both Perpignan and Carcassonne airports. This absolute gem is the perfect holiday home only 17 kilometres from the sparkling Mediterranean, in a picture postcard village with shop and bar/restaurant and only five minutes from the bustling village of Durban with supermarket, restaurant, and open air pool.

It is not very big (72 square metres over three floors) and there is only one pukka bedroom but it is full of surprises and wonderful original features; white painted exposed beams, quaint tiled floors, staircases, and fireplace, and is decorated in exquisite taste known here in Southern France as 'shabby chic' (very 'Cote Sud' - the up-market French magazine).

On the ground floor a large sitting room (with a daybed) and bathroom beautifully tiled and separate WC. On the middle floor the most romantic bedroom imaginable with fireplace and again beautifully decorated.

On the top floor a large whitewashed country kitchen with stone walls, tiled floor, dining area, and fireplace, and, over the staircase, a cleverly built-in single bed-size sleeping platform (a child would love it!) with stepladder. Then it is outside through huge sliding glass doors the full width of the house onto the roof terrace - a delightful place for al fresco dining and soaking up the sun, with views across the village to the church.

This wonderful little property is the perfect Mediterranean holiday home.

About Terri Trupp

Here I am on a film shoot in Washington, DC with my set makeup bag, holding the boom for the soundman while he made an

adjustment. It is obviously winter.

I am a free-lance makeup artist/stylist for 34 yrs. in the Balto.Md/Washington, DC Area.

I've worked on movies, commercials, politicals, sports, docudrama, corporate, industrial, stills,TV movies, HBO, PBS and love my work, my clients and my peers.

Why Terri Trupp chose Villesèque-des-Corbières

To be near the be in an authentic non-touristy village......... this area is what Provence once was, quiet, beautiful, full of surprises,

lots of creative people are drawn to this area for its purity of spirit. You are able to walk thru the vineyards within steps of the house. Wonderful

walking, hiking, biking.

As a stylist,I am keenly sensitive to 'style' in the classic sense, the French are masters of living life artfully with great taste and style. Their language is the most beautiful in the world.

I love the quiet, with the only noise being church bells, children laughing, birds singing, and of course, the toot of the bread truck.

What makes this house unique

I love my Senior neighbors with their big smiles, their charming dresses. I love seeing my neighbor walking his goats and donkey. How sweet to

park under a goat pasture. Hearing the bread truck toot it's horn outside my door.

The swallows sweeping overhead, singing.....

The star-filled sky when I am having a glass of wine with friends on the terrace in the evening.

The chidren after school playing with their friends on their way home, passing my doorway..... a fire in the MBR with a glass of cognac.

Our Holiday in Villesque des Corbieres

  • 5 of 5

Hi Terri,

Arrived 28th June and stayed till 20th July 2017.

Had a lovely calm and relaxing stay in your magical little corner of France.

The house is very quirky and unusual with intriguing little nooks and crannies just waiting to be discovered.

The village has its own charm and character with a lovely close knit feel to it and the morning walk to the corner shop to but a baguette a joy.

The village Fete was on while we were here and it was lovely to see the "Papa's Ball with the older villagers enjoying dancing to a talented small band. Everyone seemed fond of each other and totally enjoying themselves. The wine and beer were flowing which no doubt helped.

There was also an antique car show which was wonderful. Lost count of how many photos I took! Also I spotted two cars that I had owned in the past so that makes me an antique too!

My did several trips to the surrounding area and had a great time at a beach near Leucate called M which had a lovely beach bar and also more importantly for us was dog friendly.

We travelled to Minervois which is spectacular and very  photogenic,

It's an Historic village in a deep gorge.

Also fitted in a two night visit to the beach resort of Collieure which proved to be a lovely break at the coast staying at a hotel just out of the centre called " le Rapiede.

Just a note of warning the parking there on a Sunday is a nightmare!

Reluctantly leaving tomorrow for ultimate return to Scotland on 23rd July.

Thanks Terri for allowing us to find a special time in a special place.

Kind regards

Walter, Dorothy and Molly our wee Cairn Terry 🐺

Peaceful, calm and friendly surrounding

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week in Terri's Little House.

The very location of it is stunning: the house is tucked in a little village lane, surrounded by similar houses inhabited by local people. You are not on holiday, you belong to the village. Nothing like having a short walk to the nearby bakery in the morning and talking to neighbours. Perfect place to feel the true atmosphere of old winemaking French village. The house itself is so charming, we would sit in the terrace all the holiday! Terri made lots of improvements in her house without losing the feeling of original style. There is everything you need to spend your holiday comfortably, and nice extras: sets of games, books, paints, cd's, one really feels at home.

French Charm with American Conveniences

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a taste of real France but with a touch of America, Terri's Little House is tres perfect! Authentic village house decorated with a funky designer flair but conveniences such as a well stocked kitchen, large, plentiful plush towels AND facecloths (rare in Europe)! The queen size bed was luxurious and cozy and I loved the loft bed overlooking the kitchen. Just don't drink first... The terrace was a little oasis, with plenty of tea lights, great collection of jazz music and lots of helpful local guides to help you explore the area. Very central too for both climbing Cathar castles (Aquilar just 20 minutes away) or getting to the Mediterranean beach! The rolling countryside with vineyards and ruins galore was like a painting in the fall. Highly recommend the Fitou! The only other recommendation is a week is not long enough! Book at least 2 weeks. Exploring 20 km here is like 200 km in North America. So rich a land, every village has a story!

A truly delightful stay, in a lovely area of France

  • 5 of 5

We just completed a thoroughly wonderful stay in Terri's little house in the Languedoc. The listing describes perfectly the little home. It is charming, petite, and matched our hopeful expectations completely. Terri's website displays many photos in addition to those on the VRBO website, so the potential renter may really get a very clear idea of the surroundings. We loved the firm king-sized bed as well as the spacious shower with immediate hot water.

We particularly enjoyed the 3rd floor patio off the kitchen, lovely during mornings and evenings, but perhaps too warm during mid-summer middays. The kitchen was certainly adequate for our needs and we ate all our breakfasts and some dinners there. The home is quiet, located on a one-way street with some traffic noise but nothing compared to other spots we have rented. It is in a tiny village, with only a small grocery, so access to significant shopping requires a short drive to a nearby village. There are numerous restaurants in the area, and we thoroughly enjoyed both small bistros and Michelin 1 and 3 star establishments, as well as many bottles of the regional wines, especially the rosé wines of the Languedoc-Rousillion.

We visited 5 of the regional Cathar castle/fortresses which are a must, as well as the Grotte de Niaux to see the prehistoric artwork, a truly lifetime memorable experience. There is a lot to do in this area, and 2 weeks was only enough time to scratch the surface.

Terri was great in responding to our requests for information and help with minor issues and area guidance. We would certainly recommend this to friends and family.

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

Super rental! Would highly recommend to anyone. Response from owner and caretaker were immediate, flexible, and inviting. The apartment is beyond charming. We were there with rain, wind, and cold...yet it was easy to sit and watch the weather with a glass of wine, content with being in France. Apartment is fully equipped, nothing is missing. From wine glasses to luxurious towels to shopping bags to tea candles to guide books to a washer/dryer to internet service.

The region is wonderful. Lots to see and experience. This is France as it was. People are friendly and warm, very few tourists (if any), markets, clean air, good hiking, extraordinary wine, pizza truck on Friday, rosemary growing wild.

Pictures and description of the apartment and area are totally accurate, if not underselling the spot. Truly a special find... especially for those who love France.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased my lovely guests from Norway found the house welcoming in spite of less than perfect weather. The magical uniqueness in this poetic part of France is a place out of time. I love sharing it. Terri

An authentic and romantic gem of a house...

  • 5 of 5

Terri’s little house is the perfect place for a romantic get-away… The three-level structure, tucked away in a small quite street is full of charm from the red shutters at the front door to the white washed secluded terrace on the top level… The house is a blend of rustic and authentic local details (white washed walls on the top 2 levels, exposed wood beams, fireplaces, winding stairs, stone and tile floors…) and bohemian and quirky touches (warm colors accents, very thoughtfully chosen pictures and accessories…). It is not a museum piece, however: It is comfortable and lived in, in a very good way, thanks to the decorating talents of its owner. The house also comes with a plethora of touristic information (should you want to leave the house, that is!), and a welcoming food/wine/flower basket to set the mood… When you leave the house (yes, you will…), you will meet very friendly neighbors (full of information about secluded river bathing spots, treks to neighboring town, where to see wild boars…!), friendly cats (I am still wondering if the cat and her 3 kittens sleeping on the window sill were “hired” just for us!) and charming little winding streets and rustic structures… The village also has a baker come every morning to deliver bread and pastries at your door, daily! Finally, the village location is perfect and you are never more than 1 hour away from great beaches (recommending “la Franqui’, 30 min away), a larger city (Narbonne), and touristic attractions (Carcassonne, Cathar castles, natural caves, wineries, etc. and even an African animal reserve!!!). And should you run into any problems or questions, the local house keeper (Sarah, lives 5 min away) is only a phone call away and the nicest (bi-lingual) person you can meet! The customer service from both Sarah and the house owner was perfect. My only regret: the weather was too nice and we could not use the fireplace in the bedroom! (I will get over it…)

I know the place has room to sleep an extra couple of people (or children), but I highly recommend going there as a couple… Enjoy this perfectly named “romantic hideaway” gem!
