Alkmene apartment - Warm Getaway in Kefalonia
Summary:
Thirty metres from the sea on Kefalonia's eastern coast, Alkmene is an apartment dressed in a warm saffron palette, with original paintings and mosaics that give the space its own quiet character. The harbour of Agia Efimia sits right outside, with daily cruises departing for Ithaca and Lefkas, and the village's cafes, tavernas, and a conveniently located market are all at your doorstep. WiFi throughout available for our guests.
The Space:
The apartment sits on a raised ground floor, ten steps above the street, which gives the space a quiet sense of privacy without losing the rhythm of village life just outside. The interior is where Alkmene comes into its own. A warm saffron palette catches the light through the day, and original paintings and mosaics turn ordinary corners into points of interest. The atmosphere is genuinely sun drenched, and the design feels considered without ever feeling staged.
The living area is built around comfort and conversation, the kind of spot you find yourself returning to with a coffee or a glass of wine, listening to the harbour wake up or wind down.
The kitchenette flows naturally from the living space.A filter coffee maker, an espresso machine and everything else you might need during your stay are on hand for breakfasts and light dinners.
The bedroom holds a queen bed and the private bathroom has a shower stocked with necessary amenities.
WiFi runs throughout the apartment, comfortable for streaming or working remotely.
An ideal destination for year-round vacations, perfect for families, friends, and couples.
Guest Access:
Guests will have exclusive access to the unit and all its amenities.
The Neighborhood:
Agia Efimia sits on Kefalonia's eastern coast, a quiet harbour village in the Pylaros valley with mountains on three sides and the Ionian Sea opening toward Ithaca. The character is unhurried and traditional, with stone houses and flower filled gardens along narrow streets that lead down to a port where yachts and fishing boats share the water. Bakeries, a pharmacy, an ATM, conveniently located supermarkets, and waterfront tavernas cover everyday needs.
The closest swim is the pebble beach at the end of the harbour, about 0.3 km away. Agia Paraskevi, around 2 km south, is a longer pebble stretch with calm water and waterfront cafes. Antisamos, roughly 9 km south, is the green bay made famous by Captain Corelli's Mandolin, with sunbeds and water sports. Myrtos, the postcard arc of white pebbles backed by limestone cliffs, sits about 13 km north. Hidden coves dot the coast between Agia Efimia and Sami.
Mount Agia Dynati rises behind the village for hikes with long views over the bay, and the Pylaros valley is laced with trails through olive groves and vineyards. Mount Ainos National Park, around 25 km southwest, is home to wild horses and the rare Kefalonian fir.
Melissani Lake, about 7 km south, is a sunlit cave with turquoise water you cross by rowing boat. Drogarati Cave, around 9 km southwest, is a stalactite chamber with acoustics good enough to host concerts. The eleventh century Monastery of Panagia Themata sits roughly 6 km west. Assos and its Venetian castle lie about 19 km north, and Fiskardo is around 28 km north.
Days here revolve around the water. Daily cruises leave the harbour for Ithaca and Lefkas, motorboat rentals open up bays reachable only by sea, and diving, snorkelling, fishing, and kayaking are part of the local rhythm. Evenings bring fresh fish and Robola wine in the harbour tavernas, live Greek music nights, and walks along the waterfront.
An ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking authentic local experiences all year round.
